Depends on how you ride..... but I'll guess around 1000kms or so?

ohoh think i accidentally filled mineral oil for my ta200...anyone can tell me how long the oil will last? how many km?

Mineral oil is perfectly ok. Generally, change at 5000 to 8000 km or 4-6 months depending on your riding pattern. As a comparison, I use Mobil 1 synthetic on a 800cc bike and change at 10000km or 6 months whichever is sooner.

mineral oil is ok, just that phantoms have no oil filters, so recommended oil change every 2000 km or so, less if you're a bit ks like me ;P

then again, since mineral oil is so cheap, and phantoms only need 1 bottle of oil, you probably can change at 1000 km without feeling the pinch :p

not sure practically wise how well it works...but it sure makes a nice cosmetic mod :cheeky:

i agree with u. i'm riding my friend's phantom now and it has this funny steel wire leading out from the engine oil cover to inside the engine cover. i tried pulling it out and i found out that it actually connects to nothing wan.

anyone has any idea how it works? and wat help it does to the engine oil?

if it's what i think u're talking abt, it's a crankcase breather.

http://www.picturesky.com/albums/userpics/11670/normal_PICT0004.JPG

taken and abridged from another thread:-

"The purpose of the stock crankcase breather is to control the rapidly fluctuating internal pressures within the engine case. It is supposed to let the pressurized vapours out while keeping the oil in.

By increasing another breather hole, this will increase the hot air vent but will decrease the breather pressure within the engine.

This is no good as the differential pressure is required to maintain oil sump pressure for lubrication and flow control. more vents = more oil mist lost = less lubrication."

the above is from an aircraft engineer.

Depends on individual.. Some like to change every 5000km, some 3000km.. Frequent oil change doesn't do your bike any harm, in fact its good that your bike get clean oil regularly..

3000km is usually for semi syn

5000km is usually for fully syn

I think that will clear your confusion.

However that is just a rule of the thumb rather than a magical number to be followed religiously

Up to individual, change oil regularly is still the best.. As for semi-synt, 3000km shouldn't be a problem..
