i have heard of cases of riders suffering from rear shock problems only to find out its cured with a re-grease of the shock linkage bearings.

u've have to find out whether is that or the shock itself is the cause of poor suspension performance.

Hm....I''m not sure if this is gonna be of any use but here goes.

Anyone ever encountered problems with the electrical wiring of your GSXR?

Sat night

i was riding into JB when I had to receive a phone call from a friend so i stopped my bike at middle of the causeway and was talking on my phone till I got a shock. My bike keys were in my left pocket and bike is handle-locked BUT the lights were on! I immediately walked to my bike and saw that the ignition is OFF, handle bar still locked but the headlights, neutral, oil and rear brakes were on as if the key was still there.

Puzzled but relieved when the bike could start with no problems, i happily rode off without thinking much about it.

Sunday

Was trying to start bike when the handle bar's tilted to the left. Push in the keys, tried to turn the handlebar straight to start bike when the same symptoms appear! Bike lights were all on, keys in but in handlelock position! Did not think too much abt it, thought there might be an wire loose somewhere, heck, fix it next weekend lor.

Monday morning

Going to work, tried to start bike. Can't start at all. No lights this time round. It was the sound of silence when I pressed the starter. NIL, zilch, zero, nothing at all. Was running late, so took cab to work. After work, went home n bring down voltmeter. Voltage across the batt terminals were at a all time high! 0.6V !

Couldn't push start at all so resorted to tapping my friend's R1 battery with wires. Realised that with the key in, regardless what position it is in, all the lights are on, very bright with battery of 12+V. Also cannot start. Gave up and called bike shop to tow to tampines 9000+ workshop.

Tuesday morning

Sitting in office at 8am, typing this. Hopefully today can get back bike, hands itching to ride again but at what price? I believe the battery's a goner (heck, battery was changed less than 2mths ago!) and the wiring needs to be checked and replaced.

Morale of the story : If i had been more alert and sent the bike to workshop for checkup, i might not need to buy another battery so soon!! !#%^@#$^

Comments, anyone ?

Thanks people,

Got bike back last night....paid $120 for the towing, new battery and re-wiring of the melted wires.

According to the bike tech, it's the wires that melted and that's why the lights are on a always ON position that drained the battery..

Sad part is, the dead battery was bought less than 3 mths ago at a killer price of $90, those who are interested in knowing which shop it is, PM me.

The tech also warned me to keep the bike dry cos the entire bike wires are quite old already, might face the same problem again next time. Am thinking of doing a master switch at the battery terminals to ON/OFF the entire bike circuit and install at pillion seat below. Anyone done this before?

Lots of things need to change on my bike...

1) Side mirrors

2) Signal lights

3) Rear brake pad/rotor

4) front left rotor

5) Front fork oil top up

6) Clutch plate

7) Fuel tank cover w/key

So if anyone selling any of the parts above, let me know pls...

He@d|3sS^b|k3r,

I cover my bike as much as i can but realised that after a trip in the rain, may not be advisable to cover up cos it's kinda like "steaming" the bike. The hot water vapours might have penetrated thru all the wiring that caused my most recent problem..So, to cover or not to cover after the rain?

IceZ,

Got one old battery left that reads abt 12+V, the dead battery last measured value was at 0.6V so left at the bike shop. Can borrow your charger to see if can revive this battery? (Or let me know where to get, i'll go buy one)

tealeaf,

Thanks for the offer, will keep that in mind! :cheeky:

since its wires, then u dunt need it. i at first thought that your ignition barrel internals contact points are shorted intermittently since u said its happens when u put in the key :D

anyway,

any batt that has depleted so low till 0.6V would probably not be able to be re-charged to a reliable condition. i would advise u to get a new battery. 40plus bucks or so, better then towing which wastes time and screws up your schedule, plus u'll need to get a new battery after that.

i think i have signal lights, ur's 2 wire or 3 wires one?

IceZ,

I'll probably meet up with u sometime next week, tomorrow will be out of town till Sun night.

tealeaf,

I've no idea it's how many wires, will take a look and let u know later. Acutally it's just the signal light cover that i need but i guess it's good to have spare or change to better one. Mine's rusty...

:weep:
