Its partly correct, gear one is for moving off. But why would that restrict one from revving till the red line in that gear? Now, simply put, it doesn't matter which gear you are in, you are talking about engine revolution.

So in simple terms, whether you are in 1st or 5th gear, revving till red line still means you are making the engine run at the certain rpm.

Now put in the load that is being handled by the engine. In this case, a bike at standstill needs more momentum to get it going. And hence the smaller gear(or more powerful) gear is used to get it to move. Compare it to a bike already moving, a higher gear is used as there is no need to force the bike to move from standstill but to get it moving faster. I'm no physicist but i would conclude that there isn't much difference in the force used to move a bike from stand still and while its moving. But it probably takes more force to get the bike moving from standstill. A slight more strain on the engine but shouldn't prevent one from using it.

Varying the rpm range is the key to having a healthy engine, ignoring the other factors.

Now i might be wrong so someone correct me if that is the case.

wow thx for e details..so occasionaly revin to e red line is good for engine?haha correct me if im wrong
wad is red zone? red means danger. rev freely thru out the rpm range but not till red zone.

in sg, sound fast look fast is enough. run fast fine fast die fast.

wah i think after this sure got a lot of gixxers ultra-revving their engines to the red zone liao!

i used to try and rev like crazy when i first got the bike before i brought it for carb wash and all tt. she kept dying on me when i tried to push her to the limit tho.

personally i dun think there's no harm hitting the red once in a while. but go beyond (eg speedo hand until break) definitely no no. :cheeky:

not really...

i used to ride a certain bike and the meter is till 190.

i cleared it and my rpm wasnt in the red zone.

does that mean i am causing lots of harm to the engine?

how bout those who played with spocket ratio etc.

food for tot. lol

aftermath of over rev. spare the bike. it cant handle too harsh torture. go into red zone is ok but not hold there for long.

400cc? 190 wouldnt go into red zone. even is not into the red zone, u can try maintaining. i confirm the engine will have fireworks. i saw a r1 overhaul engine b4 due to maintaining at high speed for long distance.

i didnt hold long enuff i guess. lol

from checkpoint to kulai and back, have to slow down for toll etc.

but i must agree wif u. i know of poorly maintained bikes which broke down under some thrashin in track.. in the end, the rider suffered.

so the point is, know the limit and maintain ur bike accordingly.

amen... i sound like a preacher. wooohooo

Yah lah........ my scooter rpm meter all white one.... no red line.... so my i'm free to wack until rpm meter goes one full circle.

Lol... joking lah. Of cos it varies from bike to bike. With all bikes, varying the engine through the full range of rpms keeps the engine more healthy, barring all other factors such as poor maintainence.

all the problems seems to have dissappear , the smoke , the rpm dropping to 0 and following engine die , trottle not so responsive , super slow pick up .. all gone !!!! i love g4 lol ....

(sorry for sounding noobish - never felt such power from my g4 :lovestruck: )
