Dear Moderator,

Please move or edit or delete if I am doing a duplicate thread.

I wanted to post this up to help newbies (like myself) see a list of Class 2B SuperMotards they can put on their wishlist after getting their 2B (since they cant get a Class 2A DRZ400 SM). Just trying to be helpful and save the newbies time as well to look here.

Looking forward to Senior/Experienced Super Motard riders/Owners to contribute in areas like : recommended where to buy, what price range, what to look out for, accessories, Pros and Cons of each Super Motard model etc...

I think with their experience and advice, it will go a long way to help.

Thanks! So I start with :

Apriila MX 125 / SX 125

(+) Established name (Aprilla) 2 Stroker, powerful, nice street cred look with

just the right size front and back wheels

(-) high Maintenance and Fuel costs, left side kickstarter, no fuel cap lock

Husquavarna 125

(+) established Husky name in same sport. Good power like Aprilla, 2 stroker, nice street cred look (again like Aprilla)

Seems like lots of owner/riders, so should have lots of shops for servicing and aftermkt parts

(-) high MC and FC

KTM 125

(+) established family name in racing. Solid street cred. Some say can match those 400cc SM, good looks

(-) high for short riders, high MC/FC

Derbi Terra / Terra Adventure 125 (new and establishing in Singapore)

Still new and establishing in Singapore. From Derbi threads, the local

Dealer seems helpful. And growing fans support due to looks Kawasaklike BMW GS (the terra 125) made in Spain

Also from Derbi thread, it appears parts must wait long time

Kawasaki Dtracker 125 / 150

Not much news on this - But damn good looks.

The 150cc built from racer winner platform of famed Kawasaki KLX150

125cc not rated as powerful, but 150Ccc recommended. Has good high-end components.

what makes you think carb model bikes need to tune a lot of times..?

carb tuning involves changing of the various jets in the carb..

yes, you may tune many times on that day, but after you are satisfied with the settings.. it's almost maintenance free until the carb is due for cleaning..

so far, i've only tune my stock carb once and FCR once, using thunmpertalk recommended jettings..

works great and saves me hassle of playing around with different sizes of jettings..

whereas a EFI model may be simpler, but the only way to tune it, is thru a power commander..

it greatly depends on your bike's ECU, whether it's clever enough to adapt to the new power mods like exhaust, air fliter.. if not, you definately need to buy a power commander... and the different mappings you will need to tune your bike..

EFI bikes are sometimes so sensitive that a mis-plugged wire or hose may causes bike failure and not able to start the bike..

and i doubt the "intelligence" of a 2B ECU be that of a Ducati 1198 or other Jap bike.. Even a 1198 had a change of ECU when you purchase a full system..

i believe there's not many D-tracker riders in SG.

There's a D-tracker Thailand, but you will need to know how to read Thai to figure it out..

and you guess it, Thailand will have a lot of accessories for D-tracker..

hey there,i'm new to scramblers/motard, i wan to knw,ktm 200exc motard n xr200 motard, wat r the driffrent in the bike its self n the engin

ktm200- power and looks best, bike require 2t as is 2stroke, higher cost in maintaining the engine, need more care, drinks more petrol and feel the raw power of it!

xr200- outlook not that impressive, lesser power, 4 stroke, lower cost in maintaining the engine, smoother, drinks less petrol and good for daily transportation.

:cheer:

Glad to have u in my life : ) Always love one another!

Well i'm lookin into getting a motard too but as many state here is better to wait til u hav a higher 2A class to get a more range of motard avail as compare to low cc. And if 1 really wan to get a low cc mortard then there's looks and hi lo maintenance comes to play not to mention hi lo fc too. So i think it's up to 1self to decide if they hav the $$ y not?!! is it's jus for the sake of having a motard den i think 1 shuld wait. Jus my 2 cent worth..

Hi guys! Newbie here. Havent got my 2B yet. Jus finished circuit assessment n waiting for RTT.

I m interested in KTM200 or KTM125 motard. I will b using as daily transport n mayb go tack.

I know ktm is high matainence n petro but im working, single n no need to support any1 so i think i can handle tat.

My budget is arnd 3-4k. Do u guys think i can get a ktm moyard? I dun mind 1-2yrs installment.

Wat otha bikes u guys recommand? I lyk WR200 too.

Posted

husky 125sm.. period..okay maybe bcoz im riding one, heh FC is ard 25-28 for me which i dun think is that bad. maintainence as u said more frequent but manageable.

anyway im not saying ktm2/wr200 is bad at all..but for 3-4k ud b prolly getting a beat up 7-10 yrs old ktm or a wr200 that has change hands countless times and god knows wat has happen to them before u, and especially if u are using it daily as u said for transport,i dunno...well tats just me.

if ure lucky maybe u would get a pretty good condition or newer ones for tat price (most ive seen comes in offrad, unless ur really lucky so prepare another 1k for full motard conversion and wr200 motard isnt street legal just in case u didnt know) , but if like u said u got the $$, y not throw say ard 15k for a new KTM 200 and give a tap on ur shoulder after for having a beast in ur hands. :D cheers

Thanks 4 da info bro. I lyk husky too but didnt c so many on road. Mayb i dun know how it looks lyk. :) Hows da maintainance & petro? I would consider it.

3-4k as in down payment also can if the bike cost arnd lyk 5-7k. I m nt spending more than 7k as i need 2 save $ 4 further studies. Summore i 21yrs insurance would b pain in da ass.

For 15k ktm2 eventhough i can afford it with 5 yrs installment i rather get 2A bike. I think nt worth it 4 2b bike. Jus my opinion.

Btw u said WR200 motard is nt street legal rite? How come i c ppling selling WR200 motard at slackrider? Are those legal?

Last question: wats FC? I too noob. :)

Tks 4 replying me. Will definitely scram or motard!

Posted

FC= fuel consumption is 25-28km/l for my riding style which is slow lol.. and tank is 7L plus 2.5L reserve. Maintainence is like normal bike except the extra 2T since its a pinger (2 stroker) . and once awhile u have to let it rip on the road :D to clear the carbon else there will be excessive build up= more frequent maintainence. its my first bike, n sure maintainence is a ***** but i learn a lot fast while riding it and its hella of a fun 2b starters bike IMO if u can deal with the cons.

yes wr200 motard is not legal, but not legal doesnt mean cannot be done, many have done it before and got away with it.. heh dun get caught only..

15k for a 2b is too much for me IMO too, for a new husky OTR i think ard 12k from MAH motor, there are some guys selling theirs. U can check out supermoto.sg for more info or add huskyheroes on FB, there u can also ask more from the pros, heh we don't bite.

husky 125sm definitely! a thrill to ride this! i used to ride a honda xr125l, smooth and silent! good for daily use eh. but you want slick look, power pickup, thrill ride and cornering, confirm is the supermotard setup husky 125sms!

really nice aftermarket parts to improve performance, i love the husky 125 i'm riding now. i think you'd too =) slightly deep for pockets but quality parts like brembo and all.

when you enjoy your ride, you really don't mind spending more time and money on its maintenance and servicing one.

Your sig pic is a sm125?

The SM125 looks damn sui, but I'm scared that it's too tall for me. I'm at 168cm is it suitable? Can the seat be cut and the suspension lowered??

is the new KTM duke 125 considered as Motard?

it's good for everyday travelling and it has many good technology like 4 stroke, fuel-injection, liquid-cooled etc.
