I read in disbelief when I saw this article, so all of us have been breaking the law???

I passed my Highway Code and driving test about 25 years ago, and am wondering if there has been a change since then regarding motorcycles not using the fast lane on expressways? Of late, I have noticed an increasing number of motorcycles in the fast lane (L1) and straddling the fast and second lane (L1 and L2). Is this considered a traffic offence?

According to the Traffic Police, it is a traffic offence for motorcycles to be driven on the fast lane (1st lane) of expressways. For further clarification, please call the Traffic Police hotline at1800 547 1818.

Really meh? I go on first lane also TP ride beside me never say anything. With my P-Plate so big big and shiny shiny. At Driving School last time also they never say cannot. Maybe because of my bike? I also dunno.

But lane splitting is definately not recommended. Last time in my RTT class got this old man damn buay song all the time. His licence revoke because he lane split DANGEROUSLY. TP summon him for reckless driving plus some other offences he collected before that. Dricing instructors also say by right not allowed, but TP don't really bother. They themselves also do it. Then sometimes its important to avoid danger. So lane-split at your own risk. :)

i don't see any rules prohibiting this in the statutes related to highway use.

Thank you for your email.

Please be informed that our staff had checked with the Traffic Police with regards to this matter before the reply was posted on the Asia One portal, and we were informed by the TP that it is in fact illegal for motorists to ride on the first lane of expressways.

Nevertheless, we will look into this further, and we thank you for your feedback.
