hi ven, yup me super broke now, gotta wait for at least 2weeks then got money.

no need to buy so ex the speedo. think my cateye bought for $30 few yrs back... one of the least expensive ones. and in my case, i am using both the faulty stock & the digital speedo, as the digital one read off the speed by a magnet mounted on the wheel, instead of the speedo cable. and as i mentioned, since u have to key in the exact distance covered by the wheel in one revolution, the speed displayed is damn accurate :thumb: !

actually i purchased a sigma speedo from a fellow biker, but then noticed it is actually a normal speedo meant for a bicycle instead of some specific models meant for motorbikes. so i tested the sigma & my old cateye, and draw out these conclusions-

sigma- pro= more features like stopwatch functions, dot matric information display, nice green tinted screen, able to key in precise distance covered in 1 revolution by the wheel in mm, max speed of 300km/h!

con= 3buttons to fiddle with, speed updating slow compared to cateye, because of the blue dot matrix display; visibility not so gd, mounting wire juz barely enough.

cateye- pro= basic functions u'll ever need, the display charactors are bold & black & visibility in poor light v gd, single button operation, speed updating pretty swift, more than sufficient mounting wire.

con= it can oni allow u to choose a limited range of values for the distance covered in 1 revolution of the wheel. it offered 22" & 24" in wheel diameter while mine measured 23". but i decided to go with 22" as the speed displayed would be slower than the actual speed. makes me safer wit speedtraps & teepees ard heheh.

i highly recommend cateye as the set up is pretty straight forward & simple. both brands can be easily found in bicycle shops but pls note the followings:

* do make sure the speedo can take at least above 100km/h.

* dun go for the wireless version. the wired ones are more consistant in accuracy.

* make sure the wire is long enough. u'll be screwed if it's too short. or can be extended wit a length of wire.

* it's advisable to buy a neodymium magnet to be used in place of the stock one. stronger magnet= glueless mounting + more consistant accuracy

both speedos offered odometer, trip distance (so u noe how far to go be4 hitting the reserve), trip time( useless ), average speed, max speed & clock.

and noticed the stock speedo was pointing to 100km/h when the digital one is at 80km/h nia... and when the fuel guage lits up, there was a diff of almost 20km in the readings between them! and so, the fuel consumption was not at 19km/liter as i thought.... more like 17km/liter before jetting... after jetting even worst

:giddy:

kowz... planet really consume alot of fuel... or am i throttle happy? i pump 10liter get 150+km nia... phew. so far oni change the reed valve, jetting & replaced the airbox with an airfilter, the exhaust is still restricted. i've lost almost 30km be4 hitting the low fuel guage.

my planet fs eh... actually the age of the bike does not mattered much. it's the condition & whether it's being cared for by its owner really matters! :thumb:

the air filter was loaned from a friend whom had it as a spare. i had the bottom half of the air box removed as the top part was needed to support any stuff i might be storing under the fuel tank. i heard the filter can be bought at most bikeshops eh... juz get the correct size to fit can liao. :goodluck: heheh. no more rotting foam to replace or to wash liao. but the fuel consumption'll rise... o_O for me, i've lost at least 2-3km per liter liao.... :faint:

btw guys, got some great stuff which'll enhance our ride!

one is the 24leds brake bulb @$14. u can look for it under mass ordering, thread by fatbiker. for me, think due to constant vibrations, all my filaments bulbs in my signals & brake broke regularly in time. think i've went through 2brake bulbs & 3signal lamps in a couple of months. so if ur experiencing same thing as me, faster put ya name down & transfer money to his account as the current 5th mo is closing soon! juz pick up mine today... the led makes the tail lamp so much vivid in colour!

the other one is throttlerocker. http://www.throttlerocker.com

this is an ingenious piece of plastic butt dat fasten on the throttle grip which enables u to control the throttle by applying pressure using ur heel of ur palm. in fact u can throttle with ur fingers wide open! tried it, loved it so much as it takes off the numbness in long rides on the expressways where u have to maintain speed. costs US$10 inclusive of shipping. great stuff!

Jon.... if you buy the 24LED how to install on your tail lights?

i not sure bout the airfilter thingy... cos i thought ours is a diff from normal ones... maybe can check with my mechanic... haha... i most probably will be getting the throttlerocker... i now waiting for my pay... wahaha... meet up one day and can go rounding together...

hi angelus, the leds bulb is a direct replacement for our filament bulb. instead of the glass bubble, there are 18 leds facing up & 6leds facing perpendicularly all ard

pls refer to this link http://www.singaporebikes.com/forum/index....ic=89319&st=360

ours stock uses an airbox in which a flat piece of foam acts as the air filter. but i removed the bottom half of the airbox & installed a racing air filter, as my friend had called it, looks like a flat piece of cylinder couple of inches high with mesh on all the sides. it's pretty common on some bikes too.

sure man, one day might be dropping by minerva to enquire bout servicing costs... i'll pm you wor heheh...

throttle rocker is damn cool! i now can ride with my hand relaxed on the throttle heh... shiok!

Hi Guys,

Recently dropped my bike accidentally and the gear shift lever on the left footpeg area broke.

Can this part be easily available from motorshops or need to go to agent?

Thanks!

hi romp, can call up minerva or mah motors & ask lor. from wad i heard italian components mostly are not compactible with replacement parts dat are more commonly available & cheaper. i might be wrong but :goodluck: in ur search!

yea same here, my fuel efficiency is hitting rock bottom... 178+km for 11.5l, sigh just more that 15kmpl! cant help it, the engine needs to be thrased to get any performance and that surge above 7000rpm becomes addictve for pertolheads :) phew, with the current fuel prices the Planet is burning a huge hole in my pockets.

Anyway thot that cleaning the carb and airfilter might improve things, so went to miverva for 5000km service and (surprise!!) they told me dont have to service till 10000km... so guys, is this the norm or should i try another workshop?

Jon, how did the tyre change go? any good? U guys were going to get the arrow exhausts too rite, any updates? Apart from improving the top end and maybe the mid-range performance (which i feel the Planet really suffers) does it have any effect on low-end torque?

And romp... i did the same thing... the gear lever costs $60+ at minerva!!! I did change it there, but thinking abt it, the gear lever looks exactly like any japanese sports bike. so maybe u should give it a try at other workshops... worth the money saved.

cheers and happy riding!!

one more thing Jon, deristricting the exhaust will def not affect fuel efficiency, infact the exhaust can flow faster and thus its theoretically better. The only problem is you will ride it even faster and rev the engine even higher... I do 90kmph in 3rd gear!!

We have been talking abt a Planet/Raptor 125 meetup for a long time, before we do a big italian bike meet up in the future... so how abt one on 22nd Oct, someplace for coffee (makan means lesser time to talk abt our bikes) and someplace not easily reached by public transport :)

Lets throw in some suggestions and choose the ideal one, for starters I say West coast park McDonalds...

Posted

ahhh... west coast mac sounds cool! heheh

nope havent change the exhaust yet koz now waiting for pay. but it had arrived awaiting collection!

:cheer:

but gotta check all gaskets, think mine's leaking, and rejet again as the airbox was removed & the new exhaust system. sigh. $$$!

damn the fuel consumption! my friend's kips he claimed can go 250+km on a $20 worth of petrol! compare mine of 150km, o_O

alot of stuff think worn out need to change too... so hopefully in 2months time, my planet had completed it's makeover

and the tires.... after i've changed to the thinner tire, seemed dat the bike picks up speed easier liao! heard koz the thinner tire is lighter & less contact wit the rd= less rolling resistance.

and i've found out whether u rev high or change higher gears to rev low, the fuel consumption diff is barely noticable. think the jetting had a really big part in the fuel consumption & of course, power!:giddy:

juz got my new backlight casing. $50... was wondering if i should buy a belly pan too cos mine sorta cracked.. until i asked the price.. $206 for half a belly pan! (cos it comes in left and right) JESUS! shockeroony man..

Posted

marina bay sounds cool too! got space to try out diff planets heheh... but i can oni make it in the afternoon as i gotta work.. sorry dude... not going to minerva that soon as i've calculated i'm out of cash liao after buying the exhaust... maybe next week or so?

my belly pan both side cracked at diff parts. sad. anyway Elsie is selling yellow one.. he prob pmed u too after ur post.

anyone have any idea if scrapyard has stuff for our bikes.?

Posted

Rongx... if you intending to go scrap yard to look for parts PM me... can go together... i think your belly pan can still be used... jus buy silicon and seal it... then respray the paint yourself....

Jon... you old exhaust is it "tong" anot?

Posted

saw someone @ the Plaza Sing junction (the one b4 istana) riding a white planet.

First time i see tat color and also first time i see planet with rear box... and also got belly pan..

couldn't recognise the bike at first...

counting down again to the final class of license..

riding.. freedom.. it comes together..

hi rongx, think beta buy putty & patch over & spray paint. can ask ard whether those paint shops'll do for you?

angelus, my old exhaust is original & restricted, never opened before. the sounds of it i really like it, compared to the new arrow... more bassy & quiet. the arrow was alot more splitting loud even when idling!

wonder how a white planet looks like... does it looked nice?

btw i've installed the arrow system liao :lovestruck: had a greenish worven pattern instead of matt black like bigger arrows. and weighted alot lighter than the stock exhaust too.

i used to have the rpm stuck at a max level where the cts valve open, even when i half clutch or full throttle, the rpm still wun go any higher. however after installing the arrow, can twaa the throttle fully opened & for the 1st time in 2months, feel the cts valve working as the rush kicks in! so far i havent twaa the bike to the max as it gets kinda scary at that acceleration of speed.

overall i'm quite pleased with the pipe, but considering the previous exhaust was restricted, the actual performance diff between a derestricted stock exhaust & the arrow might not be that great.

now another problem arises, sometimes i felt fuel being sprayed on my feet... why is it so? fuel line leak or faulty carb dat keeps overflowing? might be the cause of high fuel consumption since some fuel's wasting away

hi, i also need to look for some parts for my planet...

if any trip to the yard , can call me! 9765-1258.

Anyway, i;m looking for the gear lever whick broke when i dropped the bike...so anyway with spares, pls let me know.

thanks

juz viewed my friend's 2nd hand ktm200. power is awesome, though i din try his bike, under hard acceleration the front wheels lifted up easily! damn power but undergeared. he claimed on gear 5 or 6 doing 90 nia.. on big knobbies i think his bike consume alot more petrol unless on thinner knobbies or motard wheelset.

another caught my eye... HIS LEVERS ARE HYDRAULICS! both front brake & clutch! somemore they featured very nice machined aluminium outward swingable levers in which should ur bike falls, the levers can be swing outwards ard 60* towards the speedo so dat they wun bent under impact heh... arent dat cool? no cables to break in time as hydraulics are supposed to be very reliable, and crash proof levers! dunno how much they cost though o_O

any bros wanna meet up ard lab area tomorrow eve? me going down to biketech21 to submit papers & to acc my friend to extract his broken off key from his handlebar lock.... most prob ard 3pm heh... do drop me a sms if ur coming... 91452560... :thumb:
