hey peeps..

looing for a change of tyres...

went down to LAB

the guy quoted me 240 for a pair of pirelli dragons (front and rear) for my CBR 400 rr

1)it that an ok price????

2)is HKL cheaper????

3)is pirelli dragons an ok tire??? i dun need it for track just for daily commuting..

so i want something reliable and durable.

thanks you so much for future advice=)

Brother don't think pirelli dragon is recommanded for daily use, u will end up changing ur tyre in lest than 7 or 8 month. If u are going for a daily use tyre try the M1 sportex by metzeler. Good grip nice tyre. Overall 8/10.:goodluck:

Pirelli Dragon SUPERCORSA is good. $240 would be for the Dragon MTR02, which is not performance tyres. There are alot of Pirelli Dragon tyre types. The high end one would be the PIRELLI DRAGON SUPERCORSA. Don't by the wrong one and get disappointed.

Metzeler Rennsport is also good, but as pricey as the Pirelli Supercorsas. For normal touring/ commuting the Sportec M1 is also not bad.

The best value for money to me is the Dunlop GPR70SP, which I personally choose over BT090. The Bridgestone is not bad though. For bigger bikes there's also the Dunlop D208G.

For those who are rich then go for Michelin Pilot Race or Pilot Sport.

I can't quote prices as it's very subjective.

hi BG,

how's life?

i think you are actually right, BT090 is really very good, but the wear is a real problem.

As a new tire, it is perfect. Sticky on wet and dry. Nice cornering and all.

When it gets old, it's not ur usual problem of tire botak, the very shape of the tire changes very drastically. This usually happens after 4-5 months of daily commuting usage. There will be convex condition on some part of the tire and concave condition on other parts of the tire. Since the very stability of the whole bike depends heavily on the tires especially round the corners, this can prove to be a fatal misgiving, in other words damn dangerous.

Complementaring the beforetold problem, the other problem is that the change in the condition of the tire occur so slowly that you usually don't realise it until it's too late (hopefully not!). The grooves on the tire will appear to be very healthy and deep, the bridges are all untouched, but when u look carefull in certain angles, esp from the front, and carefully feel the surface of the tire then you'll realise that it is not all that healthy afterall.

The thing is that i've been using BT090 on my CBR400RR all this time for 2 years (2nd pair wearing out soon). My most recent and only accident during this period of 2 years (last Sept) was attributed by the damaged shape of my BT090 during a SLOW corner. When i changed to my 2nd rear tire last June, and esp after my accident, I began to monitor my rear tire very carefully and realise how the shape is actually gradually changing. It really makes me a little worried since the cause of my previous painful accident was the tire itself.

This fact that i know now was painstakingly explained to me and convinced me by my mech during the repair of my bike after the accident.

So right now i just wanted to hear what pple has to say about GPR70 in comparison to BT090 in functionability and capability. I have the impression that these 2 tires are of the same range, superiority and competing at the same target market.

I do have BT012 in mind too, so can someone be kind enough to furnish me with its estimated price for 400cc range, say, 120front and 150 or 160rear.

For all its worth, i don't think i'm very into very soft compund and high performance tires anymore due to its wear and tear. Most probably going into some sport/touring tires.

What happened to me may not happen to everyone, because the wear and tear of my tears can be largely due to my riding style as well. But i hope my experience can be of some helpful use to some of you. So do check your tires very carefully and thoroughly.

Ciao!

Thanks.

Dunlop GPR70 Rideen is stickier, wears faster. Been use commonly on tracks.

Actually, do you know that the BT090 is rated under RoadRacing tyres in Bridgestone website??? That kindda tells you the intended use of the tyres.

Couple of riders who rode in PG with both BT090 and GPR70SP commended that the GPR70SP is more confidence inspiring, better feedbacks, and is stickier. Not to say that BT090 is a bad tyre, but it's not as high performing as the GPR70SP.

Try it, and you will love it. But the wear is 6 months I predict for it to square off till the TWI contacts.

Well for those who prefer grip and durability, I'd say BT010 is good.

Doesnt wear out that fast, good grip and good all-weather performance. I personally think Bridgestone tyre overall are good in the all-weather department.

A more suited tires for such machine will be either a

Dunlop TT900GP

or

Bridgestone BT39SS

The sizes will be 90 80/17 for the front and 120 80/17 for the rear.

These tires should set u up for about $150 per set. Considering the affordable price, Grip comes at a bargain and who will ever complains when theres too much grip, likewise who will ever complain if theres too much money.

Hope the above information helps you to make an inform choice for tires.

where to find that dunlop tt900 Gp for $150?

i using this tires now.. felt good.. came wif the bike when i bought months back.. but now the tire out of shape... so ya.. wondeing where can i get it for 150...

Hmmmm......subjective.....here's my opinion :cheeky:

If you are running a Jap bike, first, try to look at the website for the tyres. BT014 is easy to find.....there's recommendations for the tyres. 600cc and above, normally recommended 36F, 42R for street use. Then look at the swing arm, and see what's the recommended pressure. If it's the same, or +/-1 psi, I would say you experiment with what you like, since either 1 is not gonna be castrophic.

If the Swing arm is way lower or way higher, I suggest you go with the Tyre manufacturer's suggestions.

My own experiences is that I had excessive wear on my rear Diablo Corsa when I follow my manufacturer's recommendation which is 36F, 35R when the tyres should be running 36F, 42R. After opting for the latter pressure, the handling is better, and the wear rate is SOOOOOOOOOOOO much bet-ta!!!!

The handling issue COULD be the new tyre feel that you need a while to get use to.

I believe it's the make......when I was a newbie riding my TZR then, a fren told me his RoadMaster TT100 was fabulous....so being a tyre freak already and at the same time curious, I tried......my tyre needed change too, for the rear.

IT SUCKS!!!!! The first thing I did as a newbie would, is to point finger and start cursing and swearing at my fren

We put our bikes side by side, and the tyres look the same......except when it comes to the sizing, mine was 3.8-18 (I think) and his was 100/90-17(RXZ mah....) and the BEST is that his was clearly imprint "Made in Japan" while mine states dunno Malaysia or Thailand (Actually sizing is not an issue, as it's the same, just different "units" as in cm is to inches)...... :sian: Sheepishly I told him I was wondering why my tyres cost $25 cheaper than what he told me  and I thought I had myself a great deal (tot cheap and good mah!!! )

I tried his bike, and yes, his tyres felt way better, and I realised that where the tyres are made is VERY IMPORTANT!!! I promptly change my tyre within the month to another model (I try not to use the same tyre twice.....yeah, I'm crazy)

That's my experience, just to share......

Whether you could get a good pair of tyres in JB, I'm not sure as I never did my change there before. As long as it's really made in a reputable country, my guess is that the tyre should be fine......

Any experts to share their point of view???

From my experience, BT010 will have bumps after a while. thats what happening to me now for my frt tyer. anyway i jus changed it during Dec, so its like only 3 months and its not round anymore... by the way i'm riding a CBR 900 RR.

The bumps will make your bike handling vibrates when going high speed, its like an auto massage system installed, also during cornering, it wont be stable as its vibrates too... But overall its a relative hard compound, so can last a while more. and its also the cheapest tyer around if i'm not wrong.

So take your pick carefully.
