i got an email from my dad and it was his exact same email ID & full name. i panicked and called my dad. was 4am his time and was so happy that he picked up the phone. WTF! just in case you receive weird emails from people you know, i suggest you alert them. I didn't think forwarding the mail back to my dad's yahoo account was a good idea cos the prick who did this definitely read what transpired between my dad and me cos money transfers.

Thks and so happy that you are not cheated.

Probably, can use mutual code for acknowledgement between party A & B for extreme rare emergency case i.e. A uses "I love you", B replied "I very the love you lah"

Best wishes and season greetings

Probably his acc is not hacked but kanna spoofed. Spoofing can be easily done, so no point fighting it. It's nothing new, as a friend of mine even played this trick on me more than 10 years ago.

Just treat this type of "money asking" letter as spam will do.

Is your dad using Yahoo Messenger, or is he using an email client (eg. Outlook) to access his mails?

Viruses and spyware can take control of these things in order to send nonsense mail to others that it finds on a person's address book.

Here's a suggestion, in the order that it appears:

- Scan for viruses and spyware. (keystroke capturing devices are a concern here)

- Change his Yahoo mail password

- Initiate the same scan one more time, as specified in #1 above

Ha ha ha ha ha.

This reply is definitely not constructive, nor is it friendly.

Play nice to others, thanks.

Changing pw might help but changing to another web based acc is totally redundant.

In order to spoof someone's mail I dun need to enter his email acc to send out the mail - just a basic email sw on my local pc, set his email as mine, and send out the mail.

Btw, this is a many many years ago method. Not sure if it will still works or not, so correct me if I'm wrong.

well i can say that email spoofing is still pretty apparent right now. but advances in technology have allowed us to combat it pretty easily. gmail, (one that i know of) does a reverse check to make sure that the email is really coming from the mentioned email address. if you're techie enough, look through the email headers to determine if the email was really from your dad's account or was it just spoofed. if it was spoofed nothing to worry about but if it really was from your dad's account, have him check his security settings and change the password to one that is really hard to guess.

cheers. and oh, happy new year.

knn, my msn contact email got hacked! I also received similar message from my friend's email which is yahoo to my msn email. Saying urgent trip to Spain, lost wallet, now stuck in hotel, need to borrow €2415, will return when get back.

I was perplex by the exact signature and email name given! The spoof gave way only when i hit reply, and notice the reply email was not the same email as the sent. Different by 1 character.

Does this mean the hacker got hold of my friend's email pass word?
