After seeing so many cases of bike theft in Singapore leads me to believe that there is a syndicate operating between Singapore and neighbouring countries. There is no telling how this syndicate operate or when they will strike. Based on what I have read in the forum and heard through my riding experience. I have come up with a set of thesis which covers;

1. Where will they strike.

2. Preparation for the "Kill"

3. Ways to steal your bike

4. What bike will they pick

5. What will they do once they get it started

6. How to avoid bike thief

7. What to do upon discovery of bike theft

Where they Strike

---------------------------

As of now, we have heard bike theft in estates such as Seng kang, Punggol, Chua Chu kang, Tampines, Jurong West, Woodlands. This basically covers almost all the outskirt estates of Singapore. Since we are such a small country, I guess the syndiate also don't have much choice anyway. So sadly, I conclude that they will strike anywhere.

Preparation for the "Kill"

--------------------------------

A well organised syndicate will not just strike any bike at random unlike a joy-rider. Usually they will receive an "order" for a specific model and do some "hunting and target spotting". Once they fixed a target, they will track the bike's movement. They will look out for details like;

i. Usual parking spot

ii Usual parking hours

iii. Rider parking habits

iv. Bike Security (Alarm, Disc lock, handle lock)

They may spend up to 1 - 2 month to monitor the bike's movement and assess their success rate before striking but all that effort will pay off once they possess your bike.

Ways to steal your bike

--------------------------------

1. With a Master key, unlock your handle, "On" your ignition.

2. A good kick in the front rim to break the handle lock, insert and turn a T-bar with a flat end into your ignition, breaking it and turning it "On"

3. Lift up your bike using poles, load it onto a lorry. Cover it with a cloth.

4. Open your seat, short circuit and bypass the ignition wire.

What bike will they pick

-------------------------------------

No.1 law of Economic, Demand and Supply.

A visit to neighbouring race tracks, mixing around with native riders and exposure to the local riding scene will give you the knowledge when certain models are "HOT" For example, for a period of time, it was "CBR900", "CBR600 F4i".

I wouldn't tell you the next hot model. Just look at the statistics and see for yourself.

What will they do once they get it "Started"

----------------------------------------------------------------

1. Ride it across the causeway with a forged licence plate

2. Ride it to a nearby secluded spot and covered it. Picking it up another day.

3. Ride/Transport it to a centralized hideout

(Spare parts disassembly, Respraying, Re-Stamping Engine/Chasis No.)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's all I have for everyone now. Will find sometime to think over and fill in Pt. 6 and Pt. 7
