most of your questions all answered already previously in this thread.. go check out the earlier posts, like i did last time... all 70 pages... hahaha

btw, the let go one hand shaking thing, i was at Gopa couple days ago and he was telling me... tyre choice on st11 very sensitive, choose wrong one that's what will happen... the best choice is Z4 or Pirelli dragon... but i had previously still chosen BT020 and not too bad... so...

Dr. Guru, to find out model of your bike you can remove your seat and there is a sticker indicating your model. Your is FS plate so it is most probably 'ST1100Y'.

My wobbly problem solve after changing the steeing cone, however this might not be neccessary for you cos sometime tightening it will do. Other possibility include wheel bearing and uneven wear of front tyre.

HI Dennis...

Do you have a topbox on the bike?HEavy loads could be one reason to cause the bike to wobble when riding.Important the machine should be able to go straight, without off balance to right or left if you make a quick release to both handle(just make sure your handlebar are within reach).Other than than that, could be steering cone or wheel bearing.

One way you can have it check is to put the front wheel in between you legs and raise it off ground(mainstand) .

Spin it hard and check.can also try gripping using your palm on the tires ,try to see any loose movement along the rim shaft.

There shld be none.wheel shld be able to spin freely.

Just make sure you rule out the obvious possibilities before spending more money.

All machines will start to be much less quiet from the first time you bought. This is can be cause by riders maintenance history and riding habits. But if weird sound comes off from more prominent areas such as engines,drivetrains...then some checking should be done. :faint:

Hi.Think the one that has a recall is the STX.ST13 is way up improvement from ST11.its a vast improvemnt from the current tourer if you check the specs. Its fully electronics and design/comfortability is more sleek...IMO The current ST11 is more to mechanical thus if any problem it can be easily rectified and we can also DIY many areas.Of cos, i would give a 2nd look if an STX were to pass me.If you have the $$..then STX would be a gd choice. ST11 has had many good records in the euro market and locally.

Niti,

check ur wheel balancing, it will also tremble at any speed above 120km/h if tire wasnt properly installed according to marker to rim nossle. by right it wont tremble once it's properly installed. computerised wheel balancing should cost u less than $30.

nothing got to do with ur windsheild.

do u felt any front vibration during braking..?

Hi gentlemen here,

I have some questions to ask about ST13, hopefully someone can provide the ans. Thank you in advance.

1. What is the fuel consumption city travel at 80-100km?

2. What is the fuel consumption touring travel at 120-160km?

3. What is the fuel consumption touring travel at 160-200km?

4. Road tax?

Wat are the things to look out for when gettin an ST11.

Is ST11 better or STX13 better..

Some ppl say STX13 alot wirin problem....

Simon Soh pls gif some comments

btw is there any aftermarket acc. for ST11 n is there a aftermarket windshield for ST11 and is there any after market exhuast

Murphy,

we dont encourage ST1100 price discussion publicly, this is to protect dealers & sellers interest. shop around or ask around from owner for their purchase.

ST1100 is a well know for taking miles without much of plm, though it's production discont after 14yrs, it's reputation for it's durabality & reliablity still persist for ST1100 lovers worldwide.

yes, there r many kinds of after market accessorries for ST1100 i.e. windsheild, tank bra, headlight protector, wind deflector & etc....

STX1300 we will need to read articles from magazine or surf overseas forum to gather info to annalyze it's durablity, I cant comment much as I dont own it unless a STX1300 owner with a justifiable mileage speak up to share his/her experience.

DR Guru,

check ur steering cone 1st if it's loose.

have someone sitting rear to tilt up front wheel, simply shake it to feel if there's a loose gap, if it's loose, simply give in a little twist into tighten it, test ride again to see if it will shake again at low speed.

another possiblity is uneven wear of front tire cause by insufficient pressure.

all ST1100 engine r the same, different engine sound different is a norm.

Hi guys,

I just got my second hand ST11 today after a whirlwind try-outs! I was torn between a blackbird and ST11. I wan the blackbird coz of its awesome power and stylish looks but leaving less to the imagination when it comes to comfort. The ST11 has that releks looks or old man with enough power to cruise plus has comfort to boot when travelling far.

So I bought an EFI Silver balckbird and rode it for a day. It was good but my neck was stiff as I am short and my body was bent too far forward. Altho it turns heads, I was uncomfortable and so was my wife saying that it looked too garang and intimidating.

The next day, I changed it for comfort on a year 2000 ST, pan european, dark blue one. It is so comfortable and I realised that I could not do the weaving in and out of cars hahaha. That was really a change hahaha. I am happy, wife happy coz she could tag along and I became a safe rider at the age of 40. Just dun know when the speed urge will haunt me but lets jus say I am a contented man for now.

I am having trouble puttting the beast on its centre stand, any reliable methods to make it easy? Are the cornerings meant to be floaty? What is the cruising speed on the malaysian highway for such bike. Its a bit scary at fast speed, dun know why? So bros, help a newbie to fit into this ST world. Its my first shaft-driven bike in my life. Thank you for reading my post. Cheers!

First of all, congratulation for being a proud owner of ST. Me too is 40 years old and is intimitated by the look of sports bike and find that ST best suit my riding style.

Putting it to mainstand need a little get used to, I really don't know how to put it in words. As for my personal experience at the begining, it was more of fear of the size and weight that prevented me from doing anything possible. The moment I conquer the fear, things become easier.

I don't quite understand what you mean by 'floaty' while cornering, so can't help you on this.

ST picks up speed quite smoothly and quickly, I remember while travelling on ECP the first time I collected my bike - I overtook 1 car and next thing I know everyone else was far behind me, check on speedo and it read 160. As ST is a stable bike, there is a danger of going beyond speed limit without realising it. Crusing speed on NSHW? It all depends on personal preference. For me, speeding and touring does not go in syn.

hehe, mainstand need some try and error.. the key is momentum. Remember St is heavy, so any drastic movement on the bike is a waste of effort. With the full boddy weight on the mainstand plus a little bit of rock, and then apply a steady lift on the grey bar, the bike will slowly go up and sit on the mainstand. Hard to explain in words.. i took 1 week to learn, almost gave up at first and deside to carry a piece of wood along with me to support the side stand if necessary..

Bro Simon, i felt that when i apply front brake then the feeling right now is, i can almost feel that the front wheel is like uneven and will shake right and left ??? does this show that the front tyre is gone due to uneven ?? and yes roads plays apart too.

i have replaced the steering cone ( FOC ) under warranty , handling is much much more better now, b4 i change the cone right is like there is a ( biting point when ever i twist from either left or right back to the center then i can feeling the ( bitting here ), which shows that the cone is out right bro Simon?.

DR Guru,

glad u have had it replaced.

sign of worn steering cone will result into 'auto-centre' the moment when it's about to straight, will also get loose gap as u per wrote.

it's dangerous if u r doing wide bend manoveuring thru any bumps or uneven road surface, u'll feel as if like the road is slippery & sudden vibration when u tap front brake.

ur front brake couldnt be swinging left right when u apply it, try re-bleeding it & check ur front wheel bearing if it's in serviceable condition. squat down simply hold ur handle with one hand & the other hand move it left/right, inspect for free play it should be intact.

Dear all,

Thanks for the help. Few more questions. Since I am a shorty, the original seat is too high for me. Will it be funny if I cut it lower? How can I contact the mechanic Gopa, where is his workshop? I feel my beast need a thorough check b4 embarking on longer journey. I got bad vibration at higher speed. I suspect it could be my front tyres, bearings or anything else I should worry abt? Is it normal for the clutch to be hard when pullling in. There is also some klak klak noise in the engine. Sorry for asking too many questions. Cheers!

Posted

Most shop that do restoring of bike seat and helmet cushion cuts seat too, and they will use back the existing leather/PVC. My was cut by previous owner - it doesn't look funny.

I believe hard pulling in of clutch is normal for ST and also bitting point is far and not adjustable unless you change VFR level.

Klak Klak sounds should be from built up in valve. This can be easily rectify by using fuel addictive e.g. Redex.

Hi razsurfer67,
