Cool. I was planning to do that to my new TW200. Just a question, do you change the oil at the recommended 20 miles point? I guess I would be collecting the bike , do the hard break in , and then ride back to the agent to change oil.

When you ride it hard, do you acc/deacc on various gears? How long ? It seems to be a short hard break in according to this article. Maybe I am wrong.

I did a hard break in after top overhaul.... still going strong! Nothing wrong so far

i change at 500km.... just change mineral oil is enough for every change... till you are confident the engine is already broken in.

I drag every gear until i hit top and cruise, cos break in on street riding conditions. Decelerate also use alot of engine brake.

Most important thing is engine must be warmed up before you do anything.

However the sealing is not so perfect la.... some oil still gets sucked into the combustion chamber during deceleration and i can smell burning engine oil....

As an SBF Mod, shouldn't he/she set an exemplary example and not mock at a thread?

Opinions pls.

As an SBF mod he can do whatever the hell he wants to do. period. He is just lightening the mood with a joke methinks.

hey CJ, you gonna do hard break in har? change oil frequently man...and inspect the drained oil for specks. watch the oil filter too (there's one, right?)

Oh.. i didnt know that Mods can do whatever they like to do. Maybe any senior Mods can attest to this?

and you're the fool with the clone account?

Only fools will have their brand new HJC helmets wrecked while taking corners. Double fools when he lock the helmet on the bike while riding.

Cool. I was planning to do that to my new TW200. ........

new bike can't forget about doing hard break-in, just do the manufacturer recommendation.

coz they already did the hard-breaking 4 u.

QC check till 100% max performance b4 approval stamp for shipment.

unless u rebuilt ur engine then do the hard break-in coz the bike shop wun do it 4 u (not every shop has a dyno).

there r risk of other parts failure.........mostly untold becoz of pride n shame (in other words 'no face').

@stsoh: that doesn't make sense to me though. if already did a break in, why do you need to do another break in and be "gentle" with the engine? can you (or someone else) enlighten? this is interesting.

if u read the mototune hard break-in, it is done on first engine run whereby every parts r not mated yet.

manufacturers have to do quality control checks whereby they will run every machines to the max to meet maximum spec b4 package n ship out.

moto-tune is mainly rebuilt engines for racing, every engines they rebuilt r run on race tracks n after every races they have to rebuilt the engine again.

in other words, hard break-in is short life, in USA they trash their bikes n trade-in every one or two yrs for newer bike.

doing the factory recommendations is for longevity which means we dun do engine repair after two yrs, we can easily ride without engine problems for many yrs.

many do forget about there r many parts which r stressed, not just to mated piston rings to cylinder linear.

beside the cylinder linear need to be cross-hashed so tat oil can be cling on linear surface for lubrication.

oil on the surface of linear acts as a seal n lubrication which many forgets.

if piston rings n linear surface r perfectly mated, no oil means no sealing n lubrication.

another point is piston ring n cylinder linear surface contact faces r super harden to prevent wears if u can mate it by hard break-in, tat means it can be worn out than it's supposed design function.

manufacturers recommended break-in is not for u to abuse the new machine tat u have proudly brought.

hard-break-in is abusement which in general breaks manufacturers' warranty, they r not responsible for ur ignorances.

common mechanical understanding:

hard use = short life.

soft use = longevity.

hey bro,

yes i was do research before the new bike come on 10th march. I will get it service at our friendly Mech at SPC one no worries. I am sure he got plenty of experience doing up your bike. :)

I think need to get an old filter as TW200 don't come with one. Crazy right?

@stsoh: i understand what you mean now. the manufacturers run the engines to max spec to ensure they run, not to run in for the general public. so we need to do the normal slow break in, right? cool...this makes sense to me now :) i misunderstood your earlier post. thanks!!!

Stock is good...Choose your weapon wisely and enjoy it...you can have all the $$$$ to mod and in the end you can't make full use of it....

Till today,I still duno which one is better. Unless someone is rich enough to buy 2 brand new bikes and try. Den dyno and strip both engines to inspec.

But regardless of hard or soft break in,early oil change is a must. Mineral oil is v cheap, change a few times wouldn't hurt
