planning to get some 3M CF sticker to DIY wrap some bike. I have not done any of these before. My fren told me to do it on a curve parts is quite hard. Anyone have any advice to help me with it.

There is someone out there for me

I know there is someone out there

I know she is waiting so patiently yeah

Can you tell me her name?

(Somebody tell me her name)

This life-long search is gonna drive me insane

How does she laugh?

How does she cry?

What's the color of her eyes?

Does she even realize I'm here?

Where is she? Where is she? Where is she?

Where is this beautiful girl?Who is she? Who is she?

Who is gonna complete my world?

For the sticker to go around curved parts, you usually need to heat it so it stretches around the surface. Also you might need to apply slightly soapy water below it so you can remove air bubbles easily.

Suggest you practice on something else before doing on your bike.

My bike is stock! Please don't jio me!

i pasted 3m CF sticker on my nsr150 frame. i nvr use hairdryer. maybe its due to my inexperience, i realise that even if u stretch it, for examples lyk corner or curve edge, it will still 'pop up' when its cooled dwn or as time passes.

therefore wat i do is to make a cut on the sticker at curve edge and overlaps the sticker. final result mite nt be so nice. but cant realli see 1. if im free tmr ill try to post pics.

Finally, some pics 4 every1 to enjoy. the reason of nt CF-ing the whole frame is becoz some parts r damn difficult to paste, such as welding points. there are also damn hard to be sticked on. therefore, if anyone tries to DIY CF, plz make sure u haf at least the following items:

1) 3MCF sticker

2) useless cash card or phonecard to squeeze out air bubbles

3) glass cleaner to clean the surface b4 sticking

4) soapy water (optional) i skipped tis step and i duno how to work wif soapy water

5) pen knife, scissors

6) lighter (for smoking and heating CF. heat alr use phonecard to exert strength. this will help to paste the sticker easier on some curves)

tats currently all tat i cud rmb. anyone gt qns can pm mi. ill be very happi to help. coz DIY defintely gifs u the sense of achievement!!

enjoy the pics!!!!!!

Just curious - does the 3M shop at Ubi sells normal black sticker? Where is it exactly?

Posted

i'm n pro but i got watch tv show regarding sticker pasting on car... they use heat gun to heat e sticker to stretch it over curved surfaces, but at the end, they said that the sticker will still want to return to its original form... so thats why, at the very end, they will use e heat gun to heat the sticker to a certain high temp (depends on the sticker) everywhere so that the shape of the sticker will b permanent... :)

use very thin coating of yellow gum (those types for shoe soles) at the curves to provide more adhesive lesser chance of peeling in the future

ISS Mart at Ubi did sell various stickers, including different types of CF sticker - black, silver, white or something. The most ex one should be the 3M CF, about $55 for 1m by standard height of approx. 1.2m.

But still, it is way cheaper than asking shops to do it for you.

Btw, I also bought a piece of black vinyl, can I polish or wax on it next time when cleaning bike? Or do I need to get another piece of transparent vinyl to wrap over it?

how do you even spray a sticker? you stick it.

by spray, they are referring to spraying soap water onto surface before sticking the sticker. So you have room for adjustment. Once done, use a 'scraper' and get the soap water out. Then leave it to dry or use hairdryer.

I tried using the ORACAL 651 vinyl to do a paste, area about 24 by 10 cm. I am using the wet pasting technique. I got some tiny air trapped inside the vinyl (visible only under sunlight), all the big ones have been removed during pasting. Tried needle to poke but it looks like it will leave some scars on the vinyl.

How do I avoid trapping tiny air bubbles in the first place? My vinyl is only 2.5mil thick, should I use a thicker one?
