Not only a matter of transparency.

OTC or exchange traded is different because of the minimum size involved. OTC usually require $250k, EXchange traded usually much much less.

So if you have only $100k, want to snatch OTC also cannot qualify ....

that is the min size difference between the DBS Pref and the OCBC pref share issue as you know.

good luck for the day. market bleeding again.

DBS pref shares are Exchanged traded for awhile now.. try ticker code 3QTB.D it's 250k la.. that's why i was asking how much u were getting for the ocbc since it's more than 250, might as wll get the dbs pref shares no?

But of coz... If we're able to get the ocbc at par with the commission and fees all factored into the issue price, as soon as it's listed, it's an easy instrument to make a quick buck. Haha.. What to do.. gotta wait for the atm tranche now..

Still accumulating on Spc and SIA.. Taking bites at different levels..

I'm also looking at STX PO. Any one has any views? Mine's purely technical play for STX po

Posted

Yes purely yield against yield, Iyou are right, it may be more worth it to get the latest DBS Pref instead of the OCBC one since i have the ability to meet the minimal size.

I'm trying to tell you 2 things about why i'm not buying the DBS one now versus the OCBC one:-

1. The yield is not much higher as the price is 104-105 (secondary mkt already)

2. The min denomination as you know is $250k so does not allow me to split up liquidity as easily as the OCBC one which is only $20k

Your ticker code from Reuters?

I'm pretty sure latest DBS Pref share is not exchange traded.

but whether it is or not is not important except for the minimum size factor which matters to me. I want to be able to liquidate in smaller amounts if necessary.

The previous one which i already have $100k of, is exchange traded in small quantity.

anyway, ATM tranche for OCBC prefshare very small size, expect minimal allocation too. In the end i bot some other bond yielding 7%pa with short maturity.

wah, that's why I have such a strong dislike for analysts and banks. Esp those US invest banks. All that negative talk to create fear & panic and speculate up the oil price to drive down sentiment. Asia is still very healthy, consumer and corporate spending very solid. I believe that asia economy is no longer so dependent on US. Most electronic gadgets for asia market and with strong growth going forward. So many still want HP, PC, LCD +DVD.

I also suffer paper loss now and got to spent my money to average down and hope oil will go down to below $100 soon. I think anti speculative measures should be inplace before Q4. Now looking forward for good results from tech and construction. Oh, I bought some Globaltest @ 9cts for long term. Hope they can turn around soon. Good luck to all

Dun worry bro, Nissan are butt ugly cars. You don't want to be seen in any of them :)

Damn shortist. Been hammering my HL asia. Hope Q2 result next week should put it back on track. My beloved Kingboard also been shorted but now in recovering mode. Watching the S$ volume now. Last 2 days above 1.8B but not sure if it is selling into strength or genuine buys. Hang on ppl!

last few weeks , in out in out made a few grand.

I think the big names are really cheap and good value now.

Long term investors can really look to buy and hold.

So end of the day, what's the best way to start investing if you only have small amounts?

Not everyone has 300k - 3 million to spare. I'm getting pretty sick of those brokers and agents who only smile to those clients with more than 200k to invest. They won't even entertain you with anything below that.

Unfortunately, thats the reality of this world, dude.

My personal bet has always been to assess how much i can lose before i talk about the amount to invest. Next determine the time horizon and the liquidity that you require. do you foresee any time that you might need the money which you have invested?

My take now is to go in and buy the good value big names on the street (Singapore) with about half of your investment amount. Reserve the other half for the second buy in.

After that, sit on it and look at it 5 yrs later.

Ultimately, who dares, wins.

Good luck
