technically, they are quite good panning shots :thumb:

did u shoot with a tripod or used a vibration-reduction or image-stabiliser lense?

I shot mine with a VR lense without tripid, at 1/60 shutter speed. I find that i can get the best panning at this speed. Any other than that, either not enough background motion or not getting a sharp subject.

no tripod.... standing and snapping with a pair of freehands, taken with a prosumer camera, no image-stabiliser either, did at 1/80 shuttle speed.

but i realised that the pic is not sharp enough regardless the shuttle speed I pan with. is it because my hand isnt stable enough to pan with?

thanks ...

i don't think my wide angle can achieve such DOF and sharpness even with small aperture.

any post-processing sharpening done?

heard of hyperfocal distance? normal and WA are best lenses to acheive hyperfocal distance focusing, which means at certain f-stop setting, it will be able to give a long DOF.

in layman term, the concept of hyperfocal distance is easy to understand: focus a lens at the hyperfocal distance and everything in the photograph from near distance to infinity will be sharp.

how to determine hyperfocal distance? I hope is not thru trial and error ....

It is alien to me :cheeky:

for quick reading, see here. it is the concept of hyperfocal distance that u need to understand rather than remembering the figures in the chart.

Nope, my 24-120mm I think is AFS lense.

Last Saturday I bought a Nikon D200 and the 80-400mm Nikkor lense, new, from Cathay Photos. This lense is with VR. I won't disclose how much I've already spent on this hobby, especially when it's best to have a spare DSLR on the side to standby.

I admit, I still prefer the D2H, even though it's only 4 MP.

I don't need those extras accessory, other than the dry cabinet that I'll be buying from my friend.

Shooting birds, maybe. I don't need a teleconverter since I got a telephoto zoom lense. I got it so that my basic set of lenses would be complete. Sooner or later you'll be using them anyway.

Hmm.. let see

i. NC filters for the lens - Many pple fail to see the importance of a good filter. One can afford to buy a trinity but when it comes to filter, they pay peanuts.

ii. Dry Cabinet - Grab them quick! Its a MUST HAVE!

iii. EN-EL3e - Its always good to have spare batt esp. It could be a life saver.

iv. 4GB CF - Using a D200 or 10MP camera, 4GB is the minimum to have. Also, have spare CF card to avoid having not enough storage.

v. Nikon MC 36 Multi Function Remote - Especially useful if you are using bulb mode. You'll need it for night scenery or star shooting.

vi. Extra AA rechargables for flash - One important thing when it comes to events, etc.

vii. Bag to carry your gears - How do you carry your stuffs then?

viii. Nikon CP Filter II Slim - A good filter that cuts reflection on glass, water, etc. It also brings out the details of the clouds on a sunny day. A slim one prevents vignetting when using wide angle lens.

x. Nikon TC II 1.7x - Your telezoom aint enough for bird shooting. The recommended range for bird shooting is 600mm and some couple it with a 1.7 TC.

xi. GaryFong Light Sphere or Flip It Jumbo Pro - Another MUST HAVE gear for flash photography.

xii. Nikon NX - Important if you are shooting in RAW.

xiii. Adobe Photoshop CS2 - Esp. important software for photographers.

xxi. Gitzo CF Tripod and Ballhead - CF tripod is light and portable. Useful for travelling.

xxii. Gitzo CF Monopod - Good for outdoor events or fashion show photography.

i dont shoot bird, i have no interest in bird except my own, haha...

80 - 400mm is a little slow for sports, you bought it for what purpose?

negotiating for it. Next step, get the car and bring that cabinet home

Is that the battery model? I see if Cathay has extra

I have a pouch to carry my stuff. Thankfully it's digital.

The lense is not for sports. It's for scenic photo shoots, especially taking from a seashore to taking from a hill. In Malaysia I'll get to use it
