Pillion riding experiences:

Normal bike - Nothing much to worry about, pillion is partly shielded from airflow by the rider in front. Smaller bike = squeeze. If have box behind then lean on box, pretty safe, otherwise, hold on to side rails if any, or the rider himself. Rider size is not much of an issue. I used to lug around very big passengers on a Y125Z, which has more than enough power to move us at over 120kph. Heavier bikes lose significant power with a passenger if discussion is restricted to class 2B.

G forces are not much of an issue on a standard passenger bike, if ridden smoothly.

Sports bike or any bike with elevated seating - MUCH more entertaining, with the pillion's face in unblocked airflow. The commanding seating position is very thrilling esp with the kind of acceleration a sportsbike can produce.

But... hold on to the rider well or else. Pillion on a sportsbike is not exactly the best way to go long distances. Girlfriend/boyfriend sharing sportsbike is intimate and all's well and good. For any other situations, it's more of an emergency capacity.

For a comfortable and worry-free pillion experience, a Phantom type bike is great, and X-9 even better. CG125, CM125 sized road bikes, it's a squeeze.

ehehehehe.... not to forget scramblers... carrying a passenger on one is not exactly the most pleasant experience...

boring rider. with a boring bike.

too old to want to appear interesting anymore.

YBR and sportiness:

If you can tolerate the look of a lightweight streetfighter (ala RXZ) then YBR is fine. I daresay it looks better than a Pulsar, which is rather out of proportioned.

Plus you get 'magical fuel penguins'...

As for alternatives, there is really not much to choose from outside of the too common toys like Yamaha Spark.

I can think of the Hyosung Comet which looks like a Super 4 (minus the 'super' performance) but I'm not certain owing a rare machine is good for the wallet.

But it does look good.

Some new alternatives for TS:

naked bikes:

Yamaha fz150i

cbf150

honda tiger 200

rxz

fz150i and rxz look sportier than ybr imho

sports bikes:

honda cbr 150

If you tall like me ah, i say YBR is okay because it is a big and tall bike. If you dont mind RX-Z, then its like second tallest but shorter.

The FZ150I is small to me. Like so... SMOLL... And your pillions will love riding your YBR if you have one. Super comfy. The seat like so big, soft and cushiony. If got box, can lean. But make sure the person not so fat wait break your box...

Oh yeah, YBR the spare parts anywhere can get sia. Air filter for 10 bucks, fuel filter for 1.50, air intake ducts for less that 20 bucks. All so cheap sia.

Regarding the magical fuel penguins, they secretly appear at night to top up your tank magically. I don't know how they do it, but you go and see if you get a YBR. Suddenly you ride and ride for 2 weeks dont need to pump. A small army of penguins will come out of your tank, i dunno how they fit in there, and open some some of warp gate where they warp a petrol pump over and start to pump. Damn cute sia. Imagine 10-15 penguins carrying a petrol pump and pumping petrol into your tank.

The YBR fits my size more. The R15, the tank is weirdly shaped. My legs have a hard time fitting.

Something you shorties will never understand. Haha. :cheeky:

dont forget shorties are also lighter... they have a better power to weight ratio :cheeky::cheeky::cheeky:

Any bike you add a rear box and strap mattress protectors to the pillon seat... your pillon will fall asleep while you are riding.

i dont think so lor... if it's a high vibration bike with no fairing going very fast the poor pillion will still be shaken and blown here and there lor

I had my pillion fall asleep before behind me sia. Wasn't drunk or anything.

Or maybe its just that my YBR is really comfy... :cheeky:

TOP BOX!! ?? !! ??

NEVER!!! lol

ok ok

jokes aside

reality is, how long are you really planning on sticking with your first hand 2B?

a first hand 2B can get a 2nd or maybe 8th hand Super 4

don't get conned by thinking "machine price" only

factor in the 7% GST

initial registration and transfers - shops will tell you they'll do it for free... nothing is free, it WILL be built into the "machine price"

insurance - depending on how old you are - especially for new machine under loan, some shops will make sure you take a comprehensive package so that yourself & of course the shop has some recovery in case of theft or fire or some other form of total loss

as well as the cost of the new COE - latest for March 2010 is SDG$1159 i think?

don't mean to be a wet blanket on spoiling your "new bike" dreams but after a while, you will want that little more power... that little more pull... those few more horses... that elusive 7th gear (if you don't get this one, don't worry... soon you will)

but to answer your question.

i've not had many bikes - just 2 to be precise

TA 200 Phantom - have 3 boxes on it

2 side E21's and 1 E46 top

wife loved it coz it was "snug" although some times she get's caught on the panniers

low seat height and generally upright seating position makes it pretty alright even for longer than around the neighbourhood distances... to town & back sort of thing.

Super 4 - NO TOP BOX!!! MWA HWA HWA HWA HWA!!!

wife didn't like the higher mounting position coz that meant she had to "climb" up

but found the seat comfy coz of the broadness of it

but as a pillion, it's not really upright, it's got a sight forward lean on it

and unless you are comfortable with your pillion leaning on you constantly

it can get tiring for long distances for both rider & pillion

what more a "sports type" where i've seen a very skinny beng & his lian girlfriend both on the RIDER'S SEAT!!! LOL

but at the end of the day, it's your call...

just factor in the amount you're willing / able to spend to include good & safe riding attire for yourself & your pillion

i.e. proper helmet, proper riding jacket, gloves etc...

ride safe :):thumb:

Grounded... :/
