hi there.

i am considering on buying a 99 model hayabusa.

i heard that there are some manufacturer flaws on this 1st batch model ect...

Duper 4,

I bought a 99 Busa last year and did a bit of research

You'll notice the older the bike the less you will loose in resale, but you are more likely to spend on parts if you pick unwisely. mileage might not be a problem if the bike has been looked after.

The bad part:

Pay close attention to the starter motor and the sound it makes compared to a new one $$$$ (yes 4 digits ppls) to repair.

The alloy sub frame was problematic (cracking), but I think none in singapore were replaced. Mine is alloy one and I weigh 95kg and pillioned for a while with no problem.

Look between gap between the tank and the right frame, you should see a hydraulic hose going to a doodad, which is the tensionner, if you see a plain hex bolt, its a manual one, other wise its the original manual one (unlikely)

Look at the head bearing and suspension lock rings (washers with notches in it) if you see damage from screw driver and hammer blows, be wary, the bike may not have had much respect shown.

Fuel pump can give trouble (i heard only) . There are six filter and strainners that must be looked at.

If you hear a clunk while taking off, the sprockets and or chain may be done for (about $300 or so).

Consumables, I think a set of tires, brake pads every 6 month / 20,000km. fuel about 6 litres for every hundred clicks. One chain per anum I'm betting. oil the same as super four or less.

Early models had noisy engines.

After a short while you don't feel the speed (dangerous)

The good bits now,

http://img24.photobucket.com/albums/v72/ed...flight_deck.jpg.

You can get the original falcon colours and a crowded meter and over 162hp under the tank.

Puts a smile on even the most miserable of miserable bastids

http://img24.photobucket.com/albums/v72/ed...rully_small.jpg

Needless to say, I highly recommend it .

Were you the one rode along AYE towards town yesterday evening and exit at NUH? Wanted to "say hi" but you were too fast. Was on my X9 if you recall.:thumb:

Busachap,

Yeah, that was me. I do recall a large build fellow on a dark colour X9, that must have been you. I do Holland-VTuas/HV every day on the AYE, will attempt a wave next time.

Was not going that fast, my exit is right near the speed camera, so i must exert some caution. I must say you were going rather briskly for someone passing a camera, hehe!

R1zuan,

Yeah man, I remember, also my brush with the police that fine evening. Hehe, what a joke that was.

I do lurk about a little, but do not post too often, I do check around the busa threads and the garage sales regularly.

Kato,

As for the use of the word fat, well, a bit to close to home as i'm not exactly thin (95kg). :bouncefire:
