here goes i need to write in 2 timeline so make it more clear,

1st year

Bike is under my name so insurance policy is under my name and my bro is the sub rider.

2nd year

As my bro is using the bike more, he decides to transfer the bike under his name so he renewed the insurancewith policy holder name under his. Now this is the tricky part, as his insurance starts on the 13th of this month and my insurance end on the 13th, we have yet to do the transfer. But note that i did not ride the bike within this period. And ytd, when my bro rode the bike, he got a parking notice for parking on pavement.

the qsn here is, is this illegal for me? Can my bro still ride the bike since bike is legally still under my name but insurance under his?

The Bike can b under whoever name Bro. It doesn't matter at all. The most Important of all iz that the Rider has a valid Insurance, under his Name [Rider / SubRider] for the particular Ride.

Hope thiz clears ur mind

Presumably road tax is still vaild, for proper insurance coverage, the bike must be registered under the insured's name.

Officially, as of 15th Jun, neither, your brother or you, has proper insurance cover.

Meantime, no one should be riding that bike. Your brother and you should proceed to LTA to effect the ownership transfer.

:)

And ytd, when my bro rode the bike, he got a parking notice for parking on pavement.

Parking is a minor offence, and moreover it's only one day after the insurance expiry, the authorities will give some leeway. Just pay the fine.

My explanation not clear enough ? :faint:

for proper insurance coverage, the bike must be registered under the insured's name.

Put it in another way.

If you had bought an insurance for a bike, you would be effectively covered only when you become the registered owner.

It best that you clarify this with your insurer.

Parking offence, just quickly pay up. Unlike speeding or chiong red light where you must furnish driver's particulars.

Don't lose sleep over such minor offences

1.The new owner is advised to check the age, chassis numbers of the vehicle and other particulars to ensure that they tally with LTA's system records. The owner is also responsible to ensure that the road tax and motor insurance of the vehicle remain valid at all times

4.Within 7 days of a sale or change in possession of the vehicle, the current registered owner or the person/company taking possession of the vehicle must effect a transfer of vehicle. It is an offence not to do so.

lets say we take the end date of ur ins. as the day of ur sale of vehicle...

ur bro already has the valid ins & rd tax

if u transfer the vehicle within 7days.. all shd be fine.. i think..

i think it does not really matter who the owner of the bike is, so long as the rider has insurance coverage onto the bike its legal for him/her to ride the bike, ofcoz with permission from the bike owner. coz 1 can buy a bike without lisence (which means he cant buy insurance covering the bike for himself) & the bike insured under his friend name (which also means his friend can ride his bike). if his friend cant ride the bike, y is it a must for him to buy insurance for the bike under his friend name or anybody else? pls correct me if its not right.

as to wat i noe n oso info given by my insurance...... if owner insurance die, owner cant ride.. this one everybody noe... but if new owner bought new insurance but havent do transfer of ownership, the new owner cant ride....

logically thinking..... if everybody buy new insurance then can ride witout transfer of ownership, then wats the point of transferring of ownership for?

anyway its all about parking offence... just pay n forget... do not discuss anymore unless u want urself or ur bro to be in trouble.. pple are watching...

for ur scenario owner can buy the bike. but owner(no licence) must go down with the rider to buy the insurance... the policy will state both name in which the owner name on top will bracket not riding n below the name of the rider same as sub rider...... tat is diff case altogether.....
