Hi, Mr Echelon,

Thanks for your advces.

Yes, VFR is a good, nimble ride. BUt I am still trying to get use to the "torque"ness (esp at the first 3 gears) of the engine which vibrates like hell (perhpas it is only me who feels that way.), cos my previous rides are all In-line 4 and this is the first time I am riding a V-twin. So still have not get used to the "torque"ness compared to the "smoothness of my previous In-line 4 rides. :)

I hope my damages are not too great too. But I must definitely change my rear box cos it was cracked and think beyond repairs.

Luckily I don't have any side panniers, if not, my right panniers will be damaged as well.

Cheers.

vibration is very noticeable when rpm less than 3k

Hi, Echelon

I know what you mean about the vibrations, when I first rode it I had the same thing, i found that when moving off you can switch to 2 gear quite fast and on third gear on a clear road you can push it to a 100km/hr quite enthusiastically, I find the gears rather smooth for a chain driven bike, (my previous ride was a cruiser on shaft drive which was smooth but a different kind of ride) engine wise you can really push it without it get tired

-> Yes, I agree, can switch togear 2 quite fast after moving off.

-> Haven't tried hitting 100km.h at 3rd gear. :)

-> Your previous ride = shaft driven + V-twin = a Dragstar??? :thumb:

Was my dream bike when I had my CL 2A, but couldn't find a decent one, so had to settle for a Super 4 during my CL2A days.

and when all 4 cams open when you are at 6800 rpm, the throaty growl is nice to hear(but do watch out in a corner, try not to go past 6800 rpm as the slight jolt when the VTec 4 cams open.).

-> Oh yah, this is a question I would like to ask too. So that means to say the VTec will open at 6,800rpm?? :)

The VFR is not a normal sports bike as the are tuned differently and I guess for a different purpose, I prefer the VFR for the comfort and ride and just a tad of sportiness when you need it, otherwise most of the time I am on 6 gear trying to go at 80-90km/hr, quite a trick to power it at just 2500-3000 rpm engine will start knocking when you are powering a too little at such gear ratios.

-> Yes, this is very tricky, I still cannot get hold of the trick to do a 80-90 km/h on gear 6. Whenever I am travelling at this speed on gear 6, the knocking is so bad that I feel the eninge is going to drop off anytime, so I always had to shift down to a lower gear. Guess it is really a trick to master. :)

...that people and enthusiast buy it because of the well built engine.

-> Yes. Trustful Honda engine. :thumb:

Dude,

Welcome to the VFR world. I believe that based on your plate, your bike is a 2007 one. After 2006, the VTEC will open at 6400 RPM & close at 6100 RPM. The transition should be smooth and almost not noticible except for the scream of the exhaust pipes.

Like you, I needed time to get used to the high revving after being on a Blackbird for quite a while. Trick is to try to keep the revs above 3000 RPM and the bike would be most happy. Most V-Twins & V-Fours are most happy at higher revs. I don't know about the rest but my consumption has also improved with the revving controlled above 3000 RPM... Now averaging about 17.5-18 km per litre...

Cheers!!!

Hi, BlackBandit,

Thanks for your advices.

Yes, though the plate may signify a 07 ride, but when I went to OneMotoring.com to check, it says this viffer is registered in Feb 06. Or maybe I have checked it wrong...

Pls correct me if I am wrong, but keeping the revving above 3000rpm like the bike will move "very fast"??? GUess this is a trick (keeping the rev above 3000rpm) I have to master soon.

Yes, you guys are right, if the rpm is below 3000rpm, the "torque"ness and vibrations is very strong.

haha... Guess both of us in the same situation - from Inline 4 to V-twins engines. I was on a Yamaha Fabulous-Joy-Ride for a year plus before changing to VFR... :)

Guess I will need some time to get used to the torque... :)

Bro seahmh,

Forgot to tell you... Must practice a bit more clutch control to prevent the bike from "jumping" too often when you rev higher. Unlike inline-4, the V-4 engine tends to be more responsive & sensitive at mid-range revs so you can't throw the clutch too easily. But eventually, you'll get used to it & enjoy the ride...

Mine has the passenger grips so I tie my bungee around that.

Btw Loois is selling their brand new 2008 VFR Black version 19K not sure is that on the road price.

Thanks dude but I've yet to experiment on methods to tie a proper bungee net. I used the single cord recently & unfortunately, it wasn't secured properly...

So, my wife's HJC Flip-Up flew across the CTE....My BAD!!! Luckily, traffic was light & I managed to retrieve the badly scratched 4-months old helmet... *sigh*

BTW, the 19K is machine price..... I doubt an OTR VFR will be that cheap...

Maybe loois wants to clear stock...he always clear the brand new past years bikes cheap.A friend brought the brand new 05 TDM for 15K OTR and heard he clear a few 04 R6 and CBR 6 for 16K OTR last year.he quoted me 21K OTR for the showroom VFR a few mths ago.

Well... my OTR was $20.6K from De Xing. But unlikely that Looi's will sell a 2008 manufactured bike at well below cost.

By the way, there was a discrepency in my vehicle log card. LTA log card states that the vehicle was manufactured in 2007 but the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) at the side of the bike states that the bike is the 33rd bike manufactured in 2008 at their Hamamatsu factory...

Oh well... I'd rather trust the VIN.

Hi seahmh... the VFR is a V4.

Anyway, hope u r having more luck with the mainstand. It just takes getting used to, and make sure you step hard with the foot... it really makes the work a lot easier.

On vibrations, I always try to ride close to 5k rpm. Maybe burns more petrol, but my ride improves many times over. Cheers.:cheeky:

For the main-stand issue, guess I really didn't step on it hard enough, that's why I slipped and the bike fell... :(

But really lah, if ride at around 3K - 3.5K rpm like I used to do on my previous humble Fabulous-Joy-Ride, the vibrations on the viffer is super strong and I always get "knockings" of the engine that I have to kick down to lower gears. :)

For riding at that speed you may have to be on 5th gear, at 6th gear you will need to be atleast 90-100km/h to keep the engine from knocking, overall a powerful bike that is quite linear.

Posted

er...I change gear at 4000 rpm min. No noticeable vibration (except gear 1). But the bike will complain if rpm falls below 3500 rpm.

You may be wasting more petrol if you keep the rev too low, resulting in the engine working harder.

Yes bro... 4 cylinders in V alignment, as opposed to inline 4s, flat.

I also not mechanically inclined, but little bit i know lah...haha

Riding at 3.5k rpm is really not optimal. Especially when u need to pick up for overtaking, the bike's not going to respond. Then again, consumption on the VFR is not great... possibly because of the way I ride too.

When cruising, I'm generally between 4-5.5k rpm, and sometimes I cruise on 5th gear even, if the speed isn't too high.

After 2 years, I still love my VFR... and just can't think of which bike to change to. Just changed my tyres and brakes (set me back a bundle)... so will be sticking with this babe for another year probably. :cheeky:
