Only palm oil based cooking oil applies. At your own risk. LOL.

Read the 4 links below carefully before your comment:

"Would you believe that palm oil- based cooking oil could be used as an engine lubricant for your automobile?

Believe it or not, some people in Negeri Sembilan have been using cooking oil for their car engine and find no problems using this lubricant.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ciRc1EY0yE4/S95_UtuEQMI/AAAAAAAAAbg/0-CsTXLFunA/s1600/Power.jpg

Marketing manager Sekolah Golf Michael Ismail, Nik Safian Afzani Omar, said he has been using cooking oil that he buys for RM2.50 per one 1.5 kg packet as the lubricant for the engine of his Kancil car.

“My Kancil (car) needs three litres of engine lubricant. Thus, I would use two and half packets of cooking oil for that purpose.

“Before, I had to pay RM130 every time I serviced my car engine, but now it is less than RM10″, he told Bernama here.

Nik Safian Afzani said previously he used a semi-synthetic engine oil of a popular brand but he has replaced it with cooking oil that he buys from a hypermarket.

He said when using the cooking oil as the lubricant, the temperature of his cars engine never exceeds the overheat limit.

GOOD ALTERNATIVE

Nik Safian Afzani said, when he sent the car to a workshop for its engine oil filter to be changed, the mechanics there were surprised to find that the car had used cooking oil as the lubricant.

To Nik Safian Afzanis bewilderment, the mechanics said that cooking oil is a good alternative for car engine oil as the product is more expensive nowadays.

Meanwhile, Hisham Abdullah, who created a fuel-saver mechanism using water and hydrogen, said he too has been using cooking oil as a lubricant for his Proton Iswara car.

He has been using this material for about one year and found that it does not give any negative effect on his car engine.

The former engineer at a Japanese firm said, “cooking oil is actually a synthetic oil(containing esther) but we are not aware of this”.

As for mechanic Mohd Tajuddin Jalil, he learnt the cooking oils secret from a foreign expert some two years ago.

Since then, Hisham has been using cooking oil as his car engines lubricant. Hisham said he knows that 67 others in Negeri Sembilan are applying the same concept.

“However only palm oil-based cooking oil can be used. Others like that made from corn or vegetables should not be used as they tend to coagulate at low temperatures,” Hisham said, adding that it is economical to use cooking oil as an engine lubricant due to the high price of engine oils nowadays.

He said a 4-litre bottle of semi-synthetic engine oil now costs RM160 while that of the fully synthetic is about RM200.

Those who wish to know more about the secrets of cooking oil can visit Hishams website at http://ilmurahsia.name.my.

They can also visit http://www.nordicgroup.us/oil.htm#The3000 Mile Facts for similar information. "

I'm going to try palm cooking oil + optional 1 small can of STP oil treatment at next EO change.

The palm oil is not so viscous at high temperature so may have to add the oil treatment to make it heavier.

According to a post http://carigold.com/portal/forums/showthread.php?p=3221891#post3221891

sejak aku guna minyak sawit ni aku tengok temp aku jadi rendah...

utk pengetahuan semua, kereta Alfa Romeo aku mmg dah siap ada meter temperature enjin, oil temperature & oil pressure bar....

(since I use palm oil I noticed the temperatures become lower. For your info, my Alfa Romeo has the meters of engine temperature, oil temperature and oil pressure)

dulu aku pakai 5W/40 Salenia Racing

(I used 5W/40 Salenia Racing engine oil in the past)

TEMPERATURE ENJIN :

Engine temperature reading:

minyak hitam : 90-100 darjah (pd kelajuan 240kmh konsisten utk jarak lebih 50km)

minyak sawit : 70-85 darjah (pd kelajuan 240kmh konsisten utk jarak lebih 50km)

with engine oil: 90-100 degree celsius (travelling at 240km/h consistently for > 50km)

with palm oil: 70-85 degree celsius (travelling at 240km/h consistently for > 50km)

OIL TEMPERATURE : (ini yg penting & felix nak tau maybe )

Oil temperature reading:

minyak hitam : 100-105 darjah (pd kelajuan 240kmh konsisten utk jarak lebih 50km)

minyak sawit : 80-95 darjah (pd kelajuan 240kmh konsisten utk jarak lebih 50km)

with engine oil: 100-105 degree celsius (travelling at 240km/h consistently for > 50km)

with palm oil: 80-95 degree celsius (travelling at 240km/h consistently for > 50km)

OIL PRESSURE:

Oil pressure reading:

minyak hitam : 0.4 bar (dlm keadaan idle selepas enjin dah panas)

minyak sawit : 0.2 bar (dlm keadaan idle selepas enjin dah panas)

with engine oil: 0.4 bar (in idle after engine has warmed up)

with palm oil: 0.2 bar (in idle after engine has warmed up)

ini bermakna...

minyak sawit lebih menyejukkan enjin & lebih halus berbanding dengan minyak hitam biasa....

(This means the palm oil can cool off engine better than engine oil)

http://carigold.com/portal/forums/showthread.php?p=3266331#post3266331

pada rpm3000 speed aku adalah 100km/j

skang setelah pakai sawit rpm 2600 pd speed 100km/j

bermakna minyak sawit ni ringan.

(In the past at 3000 rpm the speed was 100km/h. Now after using palm oil, at 2600 rpm the speed can reach 100km/h. It means palm oil makes my engine smoother)

http://carigold.com/portal/forums/showthread.php?p=3268675#post3268675

oil pressure bar aku menunjukkan bahawa minyak enjin ringan...

sebelum ni...

maximum rpm aku 6800rpm = 240kmh

maknanya dulu kereta aku max speed 240kmh jek...

skrg... 240kmh = 6400rpm

aku ada balance 400rpm lagi utk max rpm...

maybe bley blah 250/255kmh... cuma aku jek tak berani

(my car's oil pressure bar shows that engine becomes smoother

before that at 6800 rpm already reach the speed 240km/h

now at 6400rpm only the speed can reach 240km/h

Got extra 400rpm more to use)

Is there any scientific evidence for any of this? If there is, i am so gonna put palm oil in my bike already! :cheeky:

You can refer to this research paper:

http://lejpt.academicdirect.org/A14/107_114.htm

"Based on the results obtained from the various tests carried out on the lubricating properties of palm kernel oil, the following conclusions can were drawn;

· It was observed that the flash/fire points of the palm oil and palm kernel oil and the bleached sample meet the required SAE specifications. The values obtained were 242°C for palm kernel oil. This value is in line with those obtained from both Heavy duty oil (SAE 40) and Light duty oil (SAE 30) with flash/fire points of 260°C/300°C and 243°C/290°C respectively.

· The pour point of 22°C for PKO when compared with that of Light duty (SAE 30) which had a pour point of 21°C is more preferred. While that of heavy duty oil (SAE 40) is 9°C. The reason for the low pour point value obtained from heavy duty is owned to the fact that it has a higher viscosity compared to the other samples. In essence, the higher the viscosity of a sample the lower its pour point and vice versa. This statement is evident from the results obtained from the tests conducted on the samples.

· The specific density of 0.882mg/ml, 0.886mg/ml and 0.899 for palm oil, palm kernel oil and the bleached palm oil respectively conforms to those of Heavy duty (SAE 40) and Light duty (SAE 30) with values of 0.868mg/ml and 0.895mg/ml respectively. It is obvious that palm kernel oil (PKO) has good value of density. Hence it will help in case of contamination with water which will settle below the oil and will subsequently be drained off.

· It was also observed that the viscosity of the samples decreased with increase in temperature. This was best with the Light duty which decreased from 104cst to 12cst while PKO had a viscosity of 115.55mg/ml at 40°C and 8.1mg/ml at 100°C and the heavy duty (SAE 40) had a viscosity of 159.20mg/ml at 40°C and 15.87mg/ml at 100°C. On increasing the operating temperatures from 40°C to 100°C, the samples analyzed showed various percentage decrease in their viscosities. PKO showed a decrease of 93% on increasing their operating temperatures.

· It was also observed that the shear strength of the various samples varies depending on their various carotene contents. On increasing the temperature from 40oC to 100oC the sampled, each showed various percentage decrease in their shear strength which is indicated in their viscosities. "

LOL SAE certified cooking oil!

For those interested in MOTOR oil chemistry - a certain brand of turbo diesel pickup oil is great for classic bike engines due to high levels of certain additives that are desired for a vintage bike engine.

Source: Thai bike forums, road tested and proven as well. Apparently some of the newer oil certifications have less amounts of these "desired additives", due to emissions control requirements.

This is actually nice to read, in case you ever found yourself in a post-apocalyptic world and you needed to source your own "motor oil" from a Fallout 3 style wasteland LOL.

There are people in and around the UK using used cooking oil for fuel. Apparently older diesel cars with Bosch fuel injectors can do that without modification. Smells better to (fish and chips!!!). The motive? It's free fuel, from restaurants. Top Gear did a test on this.

Now if you could lubricate the car with cooking oil as well, omg, cheap motoring!

In Cuba, people create brake fluid from.... shampoo and some other household stuff? Why? Properly engineered brake fluid is impossible to get.

Who cares. Prices of cooking oil at least will not go up as much as crude oil. Furthermore, cooking oil is renewable.

Big corporations always defend their petrochemical products by 'proving' naturally vegetable products ineffective or not good, such as toxic chemotherapy drugs made from crude-oil vs natural Amygdalin(vitamin B-17) etc. This is because naturally grown vege products cannot be patented and so cannot bring them skyrocketing profits in billion of dollars.

So don't be surprised that one day they claim that palm oil deteriorates engines, etc.

Yap, can you imagine one day when cooking oil costs $10.00 or more per litre?

Think of all the food you eat outside costing double or even triple because of the cooking oil prices. You will care when that happens.

Motorcyclist are the nicest people on the road, try not to kill us.

Better start investing in palm oil business at malaysia now. hahaha...

Price of palm-based cooking oil is mainly determined by palm oil which is priced in tonnage at US commodity market.

Sg prefers price inflation so cooking oil will go gradually higher in future.

However, in malaysia, the OEM palm oil manufacturer, u can still get it cheap as a subsidized grocery product.

I think palm oil will still be slated as priority for food, wat with food shortage issues. Automotive industry unless got people wana invest in purely engine use palm oil, will the authorities allow investment for this purpose? Depends on how much tax the govt will give for this kinda investment, in the end maybe back to square one. Same as standard engine oil. You know lah, govt always $$ here $$ there.
