Diavel flat out top speed eating through 2-mile runway at Bruntingthorpe, UK in less than 50 seconds. Next I want to see it head to head with Vmax through quarter mile!

Ducati latest brainchild against legendary VMAX, who's the DADDY? Quarter mile run neck to neck, amazingly close!

Finally some interesting dyno results. See for yourself - Diavel (blue) versus Ducati 1098 (red). Both are stock configuraiton.

First one is BHP chart:

Then is torque comparison side by side, amazing how much better output from Diavel:

Hello chaps,

I was about to share some thoughts after 5+ weeks of diavel expereince on singapore roads when I came around another report at Ash on Bikes forum. Well, I wont be able to summarize it all that well so instead I will copy-paste it here. Few things I will add from myself:

One most impressive thing: Breaking is out of this world, bike will stop instantly and will throw you off if not prepared. And that applies to both dry and wet road

Things to improve 1: electronically adjusted front/rear suspension with pre-set profiles, common Ducati why its a basic feature on Multistrada and not on Diavel? Its a shame...

Things to improve 2: electronic fuel gauge, again you've done it on Mutli why can't we have it here? Need now to put up with stone-age fuel reserver lamp. Next to TFT screen this doesn't make sense at all...

Things to improve 3: tire pressure monitor would be nice too

And finally here is the report from shuggiemac:

Update - the Diavel has now passed the 1000km mark and shall go back in for its first service and after that I shall not be restricted to life below 6000 rpm. I can't wait!

I have only had it a couple of weeks but I know already that this machine is something special. Looks like I got away with the gamble of buying before trying. I am honestly trying to be objective and find something about it that I don't like or can offer up as a negative but I am struggling.

The rider modes just about make this three bikes for the price of one and even in urban mode, 100hp is still a good amount of power. The delivery of that reduced oomph makes the bike suitable for those slightly wary, to give it a try. In town and heavy city traffic it is perfect. To be honest I don't really use the touring mode but perhaps I shall once I head out on longer highway runs. The sports mode though is just grin inducing. That coupled with the handling means that I am seeking out quiet twisty roads a whole lot more than I thought I would be. So much for using this to calm down after the 999. There is a difference however and that is whilst the Diavel does have more power than the 999, the latter feels a lot more frantic out on the road whilst gunning through the bendy bits. I suspect that part of this may be mental and in reality I am not really zipping along as fast on the Diavel, it just feels as good, in a slightly different way at lower speeds.

Fuel consumption is not at all bad, all things considered and I am getting 6.8l/100km calculated by a few brim to brim (41 mpg or 34 mp US gallon). I suspect that may drop a little after I can give it the message BUT at the same time in every day riding I don't think it will change much. I am looking for fuel at around the 200km mark but I think it will go to about 240km without any worries of running out.

We have to carry a medi kit when on the bike in this country now. Not that it is comprehensive and this is one area where the bikes does not do well, in that there is next to no usable under seat storage space. A couple of packets of condoms and cigarettes would be about the limit. It is still better than the 999 though which would just about manage a packet of Rizzla and nothing else.

It is a novelty to be on a Ducati where the mirrors actually show something other than the riders elbows. To be fair this was a trait of the sport bikes and my ST2 is fine and I have no doubt the Mutley, Hypermotard and Monster all do well in this area too. The mirrors are a sod to adjust though, in that they are so tight I actually thought there was something wrong with them, when I first picked the bike up.

The electronic dashboards both work well enough, though the one on the tank is not within my eye range due to the chin bar of my crash helmet. It is not any problem to take a quick glance down, though maybe if the clock was on that display and the gear position indicator on the higher, more visible, one then it would be a tad more convenient. Small point.

For what looks like a physically big machine, it is surprisingly easy to handle at very low speeds with filtering in between traffic absolutely no bother at all. This again is a novelty compared to the 999 and I would say even the ST2, with the former certainly having the turning circle of an oil tanker.

The suspension keeps everything pointing where it should but it does feel every pot hole in the road. I have cranked up the pre-load a bit as it was delivered with none on it and as I am not small thing it was definitely required. I am not so sure about hoe well the shock is going to cope with all the crud and crap being under slung as it is. We shall have to wait and see but I imagine I shall have it up on the hydraulic bench a few times throughout the year just to keep an eye on things. The brakes are brilliant, though I have not had the need to test to them yet in serious anger.

The overall finish of the bike is excellent, I have the Carbon Red model. It sounds a bit pervvy but it just seems to want to make you touch it all the time. There are quite a few different surface finishes on it and even things like the raised badges seem to attract the hand like a magnet. The black wheels show up all the dust and dirt of the day but no big surprise there really and a quick wipe round soon takes car of it.

I am sure that as time goes on I will have lots more to share regarding the bike. I know that right now I am in the first blooms of the new romance but it certainly feels like 'the one'. As is well known on here I do tend to like the slightly more unusual side of biking, hence my penchant for the Monkeystrada but this big bike is just as different as that is.

And then the same guy goes about why Diavel feels like 'The One':

... It is 'the one' because it is so improbable.

I have been thinking about this a lot and not just since I actually took delivery but from way before that point.

This machine is quite far removed what I ever imagined I would end up with. I have always leaned more towards the sport side of things, Monkeystrada excepted and at first glances this was a lot more cruiser than hyper sport. I always felt that because it is a Ducati, it would handle well as I don't believe the company will ever put out a product that would not be much cop at going round corners. As for the rest, well I just didn't know. I placed my actual order in January of this year and whilst I was excited it also felt like a stone in my gut as this thing is a lot of cash and even though my heart was convinced I had done the right thing, my head was not so sure. To put it into context at no time did I ever consider selling my ST2 as I entered into this firmly believing the Diavel would end up as little more than a hobby machine. I would like to add that this sat a little uneasy with me as I use my bikes all year round and they have to be working tools as well as part of my over riding obsession.

Now the bike is with me, I can tell you that the ST2 has never turned a wheel and in all probability it will see very little use this year. The only thing it does that the Diavel does not, is carry luggage and a pillion with ease. These are not big concerns to me these days. Did I think the new bike would make a practical commuter for my 120km daily round trip? No I did not but is has. Did I think it would be able to hustle down twisty back roads giving me a similar kind of thrill as my 999? No I did not but it does. Did I think it would be suitable for contemplating long trips/holidays on it? No I did not but it is. Did I think that the initial indifference to the looks would remain and only ever be something that I would live with? Yes actually I did but I was wrong, as now I really love the look of the bike. Did I think that it would tick so many boxes for what I want in a bike and even more boxes that I didn't even know I had? No I didn't but it has.

It would be far to easy to run out a string of superlatives but that would not really even start to explain why the bike just works for me. At no point have I ever thought that a particular feature is good on the bike but some other machine is better in one particular area. Yes there are faster bikes, more practical in certain areas and so on. That however is not the issue as Ducati have created something that is unique in that, in its field it really does not have any true competitors. So it is not about any other machine and how it stacks up against it, it really is all about the Diavel.

Is it going to be for everyone? Absolutely not. Will it continue to surprise people who try it? I believe that yes it shall. Has Ducati found something that as yet no other manufacturer has? Defintely. The Diavel is the motorcycling worlds Dyson cleaner moment. It does the same fundamental job as the rest of the market but in a clever, notably different and ground breaking way.

hi aurium sir, how r u?

sorry to hear abt the punctures issues at your company premises; hope all is resolved.

oops, old liao, cannot recall abt friend with ninja 6; my apologies.

thus far, the Diavel is a good all-rounder albiet a "low score" in the luggage department; to overcome tat issue, either poison oneself with tank bags or tail bags or just make do with a good size haversack for any upcoming overnite trips, : )

the power is good, consumption is okay, at the moment; and as per the postings above, the rear tyres are NOT what they seem to be: Phat :p

Throttle, re this Diavel, i will be keeping for a while.

anyways, have been using this unit since late march, the mileage is now over 5,500km; i think the other units are still below 1,500km; so, when those units are on sale, those will be a better choice : )

Hi All,

We found out that recently two Duc's had been stolen from an unfortunate Ducati owner. Below are the details sent to us by the finance company who would appreciate any help towards recovering the bikes. (highly unlikely if they have been broken)

However do be aware of this unfortunate incident. Also it can be the case that parts for such bikes can appear on the used parts market so again be aware if you are buying used parts for such bikes in Singapore.
