Just to share what I have done to convert the ERP IU into a portable one.

Cost of the parts:

1) Rechargeable battery (12V) - $20

2) Connectors - $0.60 each x 3

3) Black wire connector to rechargeable battery - $1.50

4) Service charge (optional - I asked them to fix it up for me) - $4

When not in use, I would just connect to the main battery from the bike and place under my rear seat.

All parts bought from:

Continental Electronic Enterprise

10, Jalan Besar, #B1-25, Sim Lim Tower, Singapore 208787.

Tel: 62934674, 62922032 Fax: 62972613

The white connectors used:

There is a switch on the battery:

Great stuff!

By any chance the shop has similar 5V (USB) rechargeable battery? Am thinking to use it as auxiliary battery for things like cameras, convoy "follow me" lights to avoid drain on stock electrics.

location of shop is stated. u can always go down and check with them. else goggle for their contact number then call and ask.

hehehe, I have yet to try it but I have try inserting the cashcard and it lights up. Hence I guess there shouldn't be a problem going through those ERP gantry or carpark if placed correctly. ;)

I just tried it out on a ERP car park, and it works.

Just to take note of the followings:

1) 'On' the battery about 20 sec before going through the gantry

2) The unit has to be around the level of the handle bar to be detected

It is troublesome, but at least it don't block my speedo meter reading if it is fixed permanently.

Maybe I will find another alternate position to fit the IU.

Didn't know there's such a rechargeable battery, thank you for the pics mate.

Another super cheap alternative, as done by most of the scrambler guys, is to buy those 4 x 1.5AA battery packs.

Switch off is just unplug one battery out.

The rest of the connection : Blacktape.

Also, you're perfect on that highlight, that the unit must be placed in a correct position with NOTHING opaque covering the receiver body.

I thought of the 1.5vAA batteries too but think in long term, the rechargeable battery is more economical. :)

And it is more compact and lighter as compared to 4 x AA batteries.

I need to get a waterproof bag (non-slip) to keep all these, and place it on the tank. Will post pictures if I am able to find one. ;)

There isn't anything written on the battery that states it is Lithium or NiMH but from google, it indicate as 锂电池 which translate to Lithium Battery.

This is the information I got from a chinese website - http://www.tpy888.cn/product/248100.html

The battery comes with the switch and LED. :)

A complete package of the battery as shown:

I see, thks for your info. In that case, if it is a lithium battery, U shouldn't connect it back to the main battery in yr bike, as the 2 can't be mix! It may cause a fire.

But, I find it rather strange, because Lithium comes in 3.7v whereby Nimh in 1.5v. Anyway, so long it works.... I'll drop by simlim tower this weekend. Thanks. :)

No, I think you misunderstood, the battery is not connect to the main battery. :)

When connect back the bike's battery, the rechargeable battery is disconnect with the ERP IU.

Hence:

Set up 1: Rechargeable battery with ERP IU - becomes portable

Set up 2: When not portable, rechargeable battery is disconnect (via the connectors), and ERP IU is connect back to bike's main battery.

Hope my explanation is not so confusing. :p

I can't put on tank, dirt bike lah, tank high & narrow. The tape lollypop mention, is a good idea. Too bad I don't know where can get hold of it.

I believe if I snap it (IU) onto my belt or into those sport's Armband for phones, it will work (for ERP only). But, not a good idea on a rainy day & carparks.

I'm trying to find a clip-on bracket that cyclist use to clip their LEDs torch lights onto the handle bar.

If dun wan rechargeable batt, can always use one square type batt. More than suffice.

Quite a problem for you. I think those dual-lock tape is the best solution for you.

I found a local online store which sells it, maybe you can get it. :)

Good price actually, I bought mine at 6.50 from hardware shop at Gek Poh. But I've seen places selling them for up to 7.90

sq type = 9v batt ? very risky, barely enough voltage. dun wanna visit vicom for this.

Thanks blackant, still, I don't like the idea of tape. The holder for the GPRS is too expensive. But I found this, hope this work.

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.44318

Check out their website, they have tons of cheap goodies, & shipping is FREE!!!

Flaslight holder looks good

The 3M dual lock tapes are dead strong, I used them to hold my blinkers when I went to Laos. 2 weeks of almost 160-200km/h and they were still in place.

Does anyone have their IU on had right now ? I'm trying to find out the bolt arrangement of the motorcycle IU. Thanks.
