hi guys,

i juz bought a second hand r1 01 model. Need some advise from u guys.

my bike temp goes up to 106c some time when i stop at traffic light, it damm hot lor i can feel the heat, after i move off it cool down, is it normal? Also does the fan always turn on? Once i reach home i park my bike i off my engine den the fan automatically turn on and stop after a while. when riding dat time will the fan turn on itself when the engine is hot? cos i cannot feel the fan turn on le. Also do u guys noe is there any tank bra for this model for sale? where can i get it n roughly the price? i also plan the get the single seat cowling at the rear where can get it? Lastly any recomendation for street legal exhaust for this model n where is the best place to buy? Hope u guys here can answer my question above.. many thanks....

Normal for 04 onwards.

Not normal for 01 model :)

Stop and go traffic, yes it's normal. The thermostat activates the fan at 105 degrees, temperature will spike until max of 108 degrees before going down, courtesy of the fan. Once it goes below 100 degrees, fan will automatically cut off. These liter bikes are not meant for stop and go traffic imho. If you say our '01s with the side exhaust is hot, wait till you sit astride an '04 onwards with an underseat exhaust, with the mid-pipe directly behind the thighs!

Cruising at 90++ on the e'way will give a temp of around 76 - 80 degrees. Also, don't steal my tank-bra! :D

If your bike is in the stock form (eg: Paper air filter and stock exhaust) it can be hot due to the lean mixture setting from factory. So in a hot afternoon, 100C+ is ok.

There are a few things you can do the bring down the temp.

1) flush your radiator and fill with good coolant ( I use waterwetter and water only.... some recommend cool aide)

2) Change to aftermarket Air filter and slip on exhaust (BMC or K&N) it will richen up the idle mixture and the heat won't build up as fast.

3) Change the radiator fan to those Metal type. This will increase the air flow rate.

4) Use a manual fan switch to manually turn on fan earlier during Jam or Long traffic light situations.

5) Don't use the bike in heavy traffic or hot afternoon....

Do join us in our meetup to find out more.

Yup! To be honest, trying to give advice online is like shooting in the dark. There is a danger of giving wrong advice. It's best to see and listen to the bike in person... talk to the owner about the sign and symptoms... that's why I recommend meetup. :thumb:

coincident, now the 7 month is hand in hand with the fasting month...

Which sect of Islam do you subscribe to, Leon? As a practising Muslim in Singapore since birth, what I know is that the departed are not "let out" during the fasting month. Instead, satans are locked up to assist Muslims in fasting with a reduced amount of "worldly interference". "Nafsu" however, is up to the individual.

I've heard of other derivations from practising Shi'ite Muslims, not sure whether this is one of them however. Oh, Shi'ites pray only 3 times a day, as compared to ours, numbering 5.

Would love to go to the meetups, but kinda embarassed at the state my bike is in, currently. Engine's halfway there (left with e piston rings), many operating parts changed (fuel pump, clutch basket, wiring) diy cos shop labor fees are simply "wow". Thank you Ebay.

The biggest bummer is the paintwork. Plenty of road rash on the right side, haven't decided on whether to re-spray or just re-wrap cos she has only 2 years to go.
