i recommend the Honda Silver Wing 400cc:

... >30km per day is chicken feet

... 90+km/h speed is silky smooth

... riding long distance won't break your back

... touring to thailand is very comfy; furthest i've gone is krabi

... my FC is around 24~25km/L but depends whether u ride or whack the bike

... easy n quite economical to maintain

... "Its a Honda", reliable and resellable :p

check these out for more about this bike...

maxi-scooter is quite "fat" (silverwing, x9, etc) and if you ride in peak hour traffic on roads that are congested... quite difficult to squeeze.

smaller scooters can go inbetween vehicles far easier, especially if you need to "change lane" when all cars are stationary... easy to maneuver.

the smaller the engine size, the less thirsty it is. maybe you want to look for a 125cc scooter?

if you wanna squeeze, dun get a scooter. Scooter is for relax rider, and if you need a fast and furious bike where you can drift, squeeze or do somersaults, better get a scrambler.

However if you are looking for comfort, storage, pillion's comfort, get a scooter cos you can just dump everything into your bike and even do shopping with it too.

look at it this way... harder to squeeze means do less squeezing... thus less of those risky maneuvers

i can only shake my head whenever i see bikers squeezing between cars even when its not safe to do so (e.g. at bends and turns)... any of the drivers "piu chiu" over-steer or under-steer, the biker sure to fall and suffer.

riding is already risky, why make riding even more riskier?

yeah agree with scooby. I personally only squeeze when all the cars are in stationary for example traffic light stop. Some riders really like going to reincarnate or what. Maybe because i stopped riding and drove for a while, i feel that waiting behind or travelling behind cars doesn't seem so bad and plus, its safer to ride slow unless there are not much traffic.

If you haven't ridden a scooter before, buying a silverwing definitely will be a good choice but do make sure to get alot of familiarization with the bike first as the weight shifting is different than riding a sports bike or streetbike.

I love scooters in fact after passing my 2B, i got a X9 straight but lots of hiccups with european bike lor.

Price definately cheaper but if you look at the problems it caused, night be really worth to get something more reliable ba.

Maybe is my riding style but of all 3 scooters i rode, they gave me the same problem. GT200,X9,Atlantic.

What i can suggest is to read up abit on the forum or net, join the friendly guys here for meet up and seek some practical advises.

Flipping from the net can only find some surface information but getting info from riders is thru experience and that will save u time and money in the long run.

My choice is still as the rest, SW. lol

Hey I posted the same thing too about asking around for which scooters is recommended..But it seems this thread has more replies..I'll just join in the conversation..

Elton: U seem to really recommend the Silverwing 400..It really caught my eye too..But what bike r u riding? SW?

The rest: How about other brands? U mentioned to look at Japan brands..How about Taiwan brands, Kymco? Maybe they are really expanding n maybe getting spare parts will not be a problem anymore..N one other thing, I saw in Motoculture magazine, Daelim is offering 10 years free road tax for its 125cc road tax..Crazy!! But 125 cc too small for me as always need to tumpang my father who is quite heavy

yo, i'm still riding my atlantic now. If nothing goes wrong my SW will be under my butt in mid dec.

Yeah as i was doing some survey earlier for 2A scooters without thinking SW is the number one on my mind.

However if u r considering a class 2 scooter also then there are a few more choices like Tmax and burgman not forgetting Fuoco, DN01 and Gilera 800.

If want Honda, can also consider froze. Very nice. For other brands, kymco is on the expensive side.not worth it. Can buy Honda at the same price. Sym is really growing in popularity. In fact, one of their model is the best selling scooter there. Can consider the joymax 300 or citycom 300.

I tink must decide ur budget n needs before buying.

there is no more Gilera GP800 in Singapore. all exported out and the only piece sold to an Ang Mo also exported back to his country. and Piaggio has no intentions to bring anymore in.

Tanx guys for all ur inputs..The thing that really made me interested in scooters is the storage space..So I came across these 2 bikes which really got me interested - Suzuki Burgman 400 and Piaggio xEvo 400.

The way I see, burgman has the largest storage space and selling at 15k first hand

Piaggio xEvo, very nice outlook, and has rear storage which opens like a car boot and selling at only 8k first hand at m1 motoring..Wow!!!

Posted

yeah price is the only factor that drives Piaggio to be still competitive in the market.
