Hi All,

Both the handle grips of my R1150R need to be replaced. How much should I expect if I replace them at PML or M-Technics?

Info that I have found in chigagobmwmotorcycle

61317694808 right grip USD32 (approx SGD36 after 20%off)

61317694807 left grip USD17 (approx SGD19 after 20% off)

As my friend is ordering parts from chigagobmwmotorcycle, I might throw in some parts if their price is better than Singapore.

Thanks.

Bro,

just got back from an overseas trip and here you go....

PML charged $33.50 for each grips so total $67.00 (same price for both sides)

Note that $33.50 is after 20% discount. You might get 10% or nothing initially when you visit PML unless you purchase a new BMW from them.

I vaguely remembered being quoted $12 for each grip at M-Technik, thisone I am not too sure... so I guess it is better for you to call them up to ask...

Thanks bro, I rode the roadster to work this week except today (heavy rain in the morning). I am still waiting for the moment I signal left when I should blast the horn instead.

I really need more time to programme my brain and fingers reflex to the switches and buttons.

Hi.how u find ur new ride?had mine a few days now.hmm i can say it's an interesting and 'different' ride. i find this bike is

-heaavvy..could feel it between my legs and the steering

-the clutch is like a exercise tool for the wrist

-the gears are clunky.cant hear the grinding noise if u dont kick up properly

-it's got a quirky sound.a mix of engine and exhaust sounds.

but overall i'm happy with this german.it's torquey, has a comfortable posture and can take the corners.many years ahead :thumb:

Hi Mamat. Being away a while.

You're right -Very torquey and very comfortable posture.

-clutch - previous owner changed and feel ok

- still trying to familiarize with the gears.

- exhaust nosie sound right for me, don't like noisy exhaust.

Petrol - same as yours.

Recently did the following

change battery - diy

change the front tyre - uneven

Tuning at PML (hope to get better mileage)

Currently - nice ride - going around Sin to feel the bike. This thread and Bros here are helpful :thumb:

one thing though, the springs are harsh! think they have reached the end of their lives. My ride is bumpy :giddy: i read on the net that many replace their suspension at around 40000 miles.they used ohlins mostly.pricey but good stuff.circumstances does not permit me to get them unfortunately.if we send the suspensions for rebuilding, will there be any difference?

Mine ok. Looking at the ohlins

Any bros here have any comments on the rebuilding of the suspensions .

Shop around for cheaper alternatives to Ohlins if budget is a constraint. There's Works Performance from the USA, Wilburs (M-tech), Hagon (UK shock).

For me, upgrading shocks will be a priority once I've decided that the bike is not going to be a "one-night stand" ... keke. I've had a decent shock on one of my bikes, then upgraded to Ohlins, significant difference, even to a non-expert ass like mine.

I reckon investment in non-stock shocks not so bad, cos' chances are when the shocks are sold on the net or ebay, can get something decent back.

As usual, just my 2 cents' worth.

Cheers

I am not aware whether the stock shocks can be rebuilt; but my thoughts are that even if it is possible, I would use that rebuilding $$$ towards buying a new set of aftermarket shocks that add value to your bike. If you are short on a budget, start by getting the rear one first. It will be good to take advantage of the weak US dollar now. PM me and I will help you with advice on overseas purchases if I can.

Many Singaporeans create an ebay account only when they need to sell something. I bought my former Aprilia Atlantic from one such seller and it was a good experience.

Unlike most ebay sales, vehicle sales in Singapore do give the prospective buyer the advantage of viewing and inspecting before buying. This is the important part, where the level of trust you have with the seller can be gauged in the meeting, in addition to relying on past ratings.

I guess the risk is similar to buying from someone who posts in SBF garage sales?

He who hesitates is lost!

hey guys,

just wondering, is there any other bike shop that service bmw bikes beside PML?

Heard that servicing at PML can cost a bomb each time.. wonder if there are other bike shops that do general servicing for bmw bikes at not so killer prices?

Parking charges.. think more appropriate to call storage charges and guess only applicable to some inconsiderate owners that leave their bikes there while they were posted oversea or holiday. They usually pretend to ask PML to check on their bike and quote them before carrying out the service. Then they would disappeared for a period and not not contactable till they pick up their bikes without doing anything at all. Heard many years ago that one ridiculous owner actually left the bike with them for a period of 2yrs while he was away. Guess some bikes were still there and owners are not contactable.

wow... that would really be irresponsible... so i guess if we just send in for servicing and wait for it to be done there, then the charges would still be reasonable?

Both me and my buddy were seriously considering bmw as our next bikes but after hearing so much horror stories abt ridiculous maintenance charges... a bit hesistant now... haha.. :)

you can always find cheaper alternatives to the agent but the level of service you get is different.

i was riding my mate's BMW last week, something happened to it on the way home. 1 phone call and a tow truck was dispatched promptly and arrived punctually to pick up the bike at exactly the agreed time of 8pm.

Call was obtained the morning explaining what was the matter and what had to be fixed. At 4pm, my mate got a text message to tell him everything was sorted and the bike was ready for collection. That is service, but he sure hell paid for it! :faint: Its a trade off, money for service. :goodluck:

Am not pro PML and neither do i work for them...but i must say, their service is indeed top notch.:thumb: i do not have any experience with minerva/harley but i suppose it should their service has to be comparable.

the only other mech's that i have had such experience with is alan at perfection, botak along macpherson and a chap that runs a small shop at the junction of clementi rd and pasir panjang rd. Unfortunately, only alan can sort out BM's amongst the 3.

Good to hear that excellent services is given for the good money paid :thumb:

For those big problems, I am not too worried. I mean, if I gotta spend money to sort out a big problem, I would rather it be in good hand. I'm only worried about those normal servicing that I gotta do every few months... if that's gonna cost thousand plus each time, its gonna be very bad... :faint:
