Hello BMW owners! i was told that the cig socket outlets on your bikes are the mini versions of the regular ones in cars? True?

If yes, where do you guys get your adaptors to fit the normal size cig plugs of handphone chargers and for other applications such as GPS?

Ohh...Mister Phang, I need one of those :)

I need it with a 60csx outlet adapter. (I do hope that they have that) Would you be so kind as to point me in the right direction to purchase one of those? Much appreciated :)

Thanks Phang & Paul, but whats on the other end of the mini din plug?

I couldnt tell from your photos.

My socket is at a very unconventional location, around the knee area of the gear selector side. one of those sticking out when the bike is on the move is bound to be knocked out together with whatever that is attached to it.

But my guess is that mini din plug comes in only one size right? :(

As Paul pointed out earlier, you can get it from M-Teknik but you might have to modify it to suit your gadget.

Bro CMYRS, I think I saw a right angle mini DIN plug at M-Teknik too.

I'm experiencing exact same thing on my GS1200. Full > Half > Reserve. Nothing in between. I asked PML about it during my last service (under warranty) and was told it's something to do with the irregular shape of the tank. I was assured that it's "normal" and all other GS12 are also the same. They said nothing can be done about it.

Has anyone managed to fix this problem on a GS12? Thanks =]

i am also experiencing this on my GS12 but i didnt do anything abt it.

i think denrick also has a similar issue on his K12 and he got it fixed at PML by replacing a strip-type sensor, if i remember correctly. i am not sure if the GS uses the same type of fuel sensor though.

if yours is under warranty, send it back for a look. if not, i guess u will have to rely on the distance calculations like me.

I've just spoken to PML and this is what I got from them. Initially they said it was a normal thing,( I guess they meant that my fuel gauge was designed to malfunction)

Ive got a friend that has the same bike as me, same year, same shipment, and his fuel gauge works fine. It comes down one click at a time. Once I pointed this out, they immediately said that you need to bring it in for an installation of a new strip and an update.

Sorry if this topic has been raised before.

How much does a battery cost if replaced in PML?

This morning, the battery on my 12,5yr old R1100R almost fail to crank the bike to life. The battery was triggering the starter relay for about 3 - 4 press of the starter button. Finally at the 5th try, the engine comes to life.

I rode the bike 1-2 times a week and mostly not very long distance around the island.

Dude, if the engine only comes to life after 4th or 5th try, could it possibly be a starter issue? Do a check on your battery first before ruling it out? Starters are prone to wear and tear, while they do last a while, inevitably they will fail.

Cheers

Perhaps you guys may want to see what other GS1200 riders are experiencing for the fuel gauges on other forums. There is a larger pool of the GS1200 on ukgser.com. There's also r1200gs.info/forum and I am sure that advrider has something.

Frankly I am surprised that PML will give a "it is like that" answer; that is what we get from the run of the mill techs, so I guess PML had reached industry standard? keke

Hi Phang! I dropped by M-tecnik yesterday and bought the mini din male plugs. Eric said to cut the 2 wires to plug and play?

There was no right angle plugs unfortunately, need to make an order.

I was wondering, if its possible to have a male plug that has usb connections?

That way, I can just get regular usb cables for eg. mobile, mp3 etc and just plug them into the cig plug usb end. Instead of having to buy a diff cig adaptor for each item and then converting them into mini din?

Was told that usb connection might blow fuses or short circuit the applicance or the bike??:giddy:

Just spoke to PML again. Asked them how come other GS12s don't have the problem, and why others have been told they can bring the bike in for a new strip and update. They denied any such thing, saying that they have never fixed this issue and that they are told by the Germans that this is just the way it is. They keep insisting that this is NOT a problem. Every time I used the word "problem", I was corrected. Mine is a 07 model. I was told this issue is more characteristic of the 07s. They said they can change the sensor strip but it will not solve anything. Gettting fed up!

You need to play LEGO with all the plug and socket.. haha

There is such a cigarette lighter socket USB hub, but it is designed for car so not waterproof.

If you can solve the waterproofing issue (hide it underseat, tank bag, etc), it will be very convenient for all the gadgets.

I have no experience on this. In fact, I wanted to remove the IU on my bike so that I can have a clean look around the handle bar area. :D

I love power sockets.

I've removed the IU. First thing I did. Used to have the IU on an ad-hoc basis powered by plugs. Now fitting a box and will then probably put the IU in the box.

There are waterproof car female plugs selling on the net. Go for the marine ones i.e. those installed on boats with O-rings.

you may fry the charging system if you try to crank too much and your batt is dead. that would be an even more expensive repair.

Dont let them get you down!!

Dont give up till its fixed. and the best way to make them eat their shi...I mean words is to get supporting evidence. eg. go with someone who has had it done by them plus communicate direectly with BMW in german plus print heaps of feedback from GS forums.

I hate it when they do that, and blame it on the bloody characteristic of the bike!! Take it back to the sales person and ask them why were u not informed of this characteristic? Since the bike is under warranty make a big fuss. You did pay a decent wad of cash for this bike. If it cannot perform basic functions correctly then something is seriously wrong.

Bro CMYRS, since you already got the min DIN, you can make one by connecting your mini DIN to a female cigarette lighter socket using a length of wire
