GS650 single is under-powered...

Well, it depends of your definition of "big tank" and "underpowered". My friend has travelled from the UK to Singapore and is currently somewhere beyond Jakarta.

His tank seems plenty big enough. When you've done a journey like that, then come back and tell us what is "underpowered".

Anyway, yap, it's special made. There's no aftermarket fuel tank for the R model. They propose to widen the tank by cutting off the side, so as to more or less keep the shape. So the capacity won't increase by a huge amount and the handling shouldn't be affected much.

Anyone with an unwanted $1K peanut to spare me?

Will find a day to meet up with you guys especially coolcat and Phang (and examine the roundrel belt).

blow up the tank of the R?wierd coz it dont sound rite.and to add,the capacity increase isnt much as mentioned.yah it sucks dat the R's fuel lite come on 'early' but really u dont need an enlarged tank to go beyond thailand.numerous kind of bikes have been there done that.$1000 for the job? whoa imagine wat i can do with that money for my 10yr-old R.coe, major svcing,wunderlich,touratech...:lovestruck:

so selling ur GS(a) huh? nice bike can keep la..

the tenere single cylinder, its heavy @ 200+ fully fuelled w/o accessories..

GS650 single is under-powered...

V-strom looks to be the most likely choice for you.. but... aiya u know..

Me not a big fan for tank, if I give you 40L tank will you really use it all the way till empty? "so call use up" Big tank mean heavy too... The place that we go about every 150 km will have petrol kiosk for top up.

Yes I may sell it at $32 if no one buy then I keep it.

But for Tenere just a bike so still thinking the F800GS will be a bike for me cos everything I can DIY. :thumb::thumb:

IMHO .... R80G/S airhead with a Touratech / Acerbis 41 litre tank. Frame looks like a HPN job and the front is WP forks. The exhaust also is aftermarket and so is the fork brace.

The one you saw at Malacca was a Singapore bike?

Hi

How accurate do u find your fuel range meter?

Over- or under-estimate?

I feel that the BMW tank gauge is set at a lower reading meaning that the amount of fuel in the tank is more than shown on the gauge.

When it does hit "Reserve" and tells me that i have a "XX km" range left....that's when i usually cruise (60-100km/h) before i make it to a Fuel stop.

How do you guys feel? Anyone with the same guess/gas-timate?

My roadie's fuel gauge is seriously an over-estimate i.e. reserve light comes on when there is about 6 or 7 litres of fuel left. Then again, I am not sure whether it is possible to use all fuel in the tank; my guess is that there parts of the tank where the fuel remains trapped and unused.

Once I ran out of fuel at 320 km, city riding. On the other hand, touring gives me about 21 km per litre, rather amazing I thought.

I ordered a BMW Summer 2 pants from a US retailer a few weeks ago and the pants came with a missing plastic belt clip. They resend the clip to me together with a very nice BMW Motorrad T-shirt by USPS. It cost them US$50 for resending a missing 50cents item. Very impressive kind of customer service :faint:

Got to quote what I have posted earlier :)

Paul, I bought it from Sierra BMW online.

Paid US$199 for the pants + US$9.74 for shipping to vPost USA address. Paid S$30+ to ship it back to Singapore with some other small items.

Cheers,

Phang

Actually, I didn't check with PML on the price of the pants. You might want to check their prices, probably cheaper than buying online and less hassle too.

Just some info on the Summer2 pants, the shin and knee guards are a tad low when not riding (i.e. walking around in them); not comfortable cos' the top of the guards bump the knees; IMHO more than mere discomfort. It is alright when in riding posture. YMMV.

Great pockets at the side, hips and rear; all secured by zips or velcro. Not waterproof. Had mine for more than a year now and quite happy with them bar kneeguards which I am willing to overlook.

Cheers
