Why not u tell us why you do not want to buy from PML itself?

I think the reason is obvious ... I do stand corrected.

i was comtemplating of taking a bmw pi or agent bike(from pml) too.. although the pi offer around 1k cheaper, ...

K but if let say the price is diff by few $k .........

Cheers

Hi guys,

Interested in knowing more about R1200gs adventure. Been riding jap touring bikes all these while without any issue and the GSA has been in my wish list since i got my class 2 back since 2001. The thing is, i do mix around with Singapore touring kakis and most of them ride an Africa Twin then change to GS then back to Africa Twin. Reviews from them were that the maintenance itself can kill you. Parts are expensive and bike electronics are sensitive etc. I am referring to the gs1100 and gs1150 here.

I am still sure the GSA is a reliable bike and with the heavy price tag it should be able to justify it. I maybe wrong, that is why i need you guys experience and expertise to enlighten me on this. Should i or should i not jump ship and make the swap.

HEY DUDE,

SO long as you are happy when you switch to a beemer, got extra cash for maintenance & worry free, why not go for it.personally i have riden 3 beemers,as the bikes get older it becomes bmw:bring more worries.!cheers.

Have to agree with u. All bikes will need more tender loving care as they get older. That is why buying a more than 5 years bike is a big NO NO to me. especially a beemer. Thanks for clarifying it. Any other comments? How does a beemer fair if compare to jap bikes like Africa twin, TDm, Varadero and a V-strom etc?

owning a bike is more than just dollars and cents, you must WANT to ride the machine, yes it may come at a price and you have to decide what makes you want to ride it.

with the net today, cost of replacement parts have come down rather than go up imho, just do your research and buy the parts on line and get it sorted by a reputable local bike shop or even yourself for simple jobs. dealers generally charge a premium for parts for both jap and european bikes.

on electrics, its generally a case of local bike mechanics mucking up the job due to inexperience rather than an inherent problem with the machine. these days, jap bikes have loads of electrics as well.

if you want a trouble free machine, go for a jap as they are generally are well built and are not "fussy". however, as they are so bloody well built, i think the lack "character" that the european machines have.

you will grow to like your continental steed but it comes with angst (getting a good mech to do the job fast), blood (from scraping knuckles on bloody hard to reach bolts), tears (sourcing of parts and maybe sometimes the cost) and being amazed by the design and engineering that goes into the bike (which requires you to place orders of hard to get tyre sizes as the bloody rear tyre has a credit card width clearence from the rear swing arm, yes i have to order my tyres annually in order to ensure i have a replacement set when i need them, no its not for a BMW).

it is from these experiences you will either grow to love or hate your machine.

all the jap bikes does the job very well of getting you from point a to b.

the question is how you want to get there and how do you want to feel when you arrive.

Anyone out there riding the new 650GS interested to trade the greyish white cast rims for the F800 spokey 21" front, 17" rear? pm me! thanks!

but, if i'm not wrong, the new 650gs is single font brake disc whereas the 800gs is dual front bake disc. ?

i could be wrong but i thought i saw single front disc brake on my bro 650gs.

Same dilemma a yr ago...buy from PML or PI

Only have eyes for the Boxer powered twin R1200GS Adventure.

Buy PML

2 yrs unlimited mileage warranty.

Technical upgrade,Recall and latest software programme upgrade are carried out expeditious. Only PML have the latest factory software & equipment to flash and upload new software to enhance your bike performance.

Can custom order what you need ie colour,TPC,ABS,ASC,ESA,on board computer, panniers, inner bags, tank bag, spoke rims, low seat etc...etc...

I saved 2k off from the total price package after negotiated very hard.

Better resale value for PML bikes especially with service history.

B'cos of the $$$ savings buying PI, logically the after sale service and warranty are not up to expectations and are grey area to be addressed later.

As long as we go in with our eyes open and be comfortable with that, i see no reason what's stopping anyone from buying PI BMW.

For me i choose Peace of mind so that i can sleep well everynight knowing PML is committed to my BMW as and when i need them.

Remember many of us have been thru Penny Wise Pound Foolish experience.

At the end of the day we have choices to make base on what we need or what we want...it's up to you.

Cheers:thumb::goodluck:

Current GS Adv machine price $41k

PML warranty is 2 yr unlimited mileage.

Hope this will give you a better visual what to expect.

Paid for my GSA in May 08 as follows:

1.$41.5k GSA machine price

2.$520 for TPC,ASC,ABS

3.$320 for on board computer

4.$840 for top case with back rest

5.$520 for fog lights

6.$1.8k for registration pack(COE,1 yr rd tax,reg fee,no plate & IU with SK bracket)

7.$753.23Comprehensive Ins

8.FOC $1200 for L&R panniers

9.FOC $750 fittings to mount panniers & top case.

10.L&R inner panniers bags...price forgot liao.

11.Tank bag...price forgot also.

Felt the cost of ESA(2k) should be better spent on Ohlins when the org shocks are worn and need replacement.

PML provides a GS for test ride, go for a spin & if u like it talk to the sale pple. I am sure they can work out something for you.:goodluck:

Did not know what i was missing till i rode the GSA and it never fails to put a big grin on my face after every ride.:D:D:D

I personally feel that the GSA is the best ride among all my previous Jap bikes that i have had the pleasure of owning.

The GSA is like Chicken rice from Mandarin Hotel and the Jap adv bikes are like Chicken rice from Food Court.(No offence meant):argue:

Jap bikes are good, efficient, effective but plain and boring.:dozed:

GSA is Awesome, intimidating, full of character, spirit & soul, cool:cool: but challenging at the same time.:shades:
