The GSA is like Chicken rice from Mandarin Hotel and the Jap adv bikes are like Chicken rice from Food Court.(No offence meant):argue:

Bro  I know of a couple of Food Court selling Chicken Rice better than Hotel standard ... :cheeky:

I think buying a vehicle new takes loads commitment. The depreciation is bad in the beginning. However, I know some people who just cannot buy used. I think it is worth it to buy new if the vehicle is a keeper. I think the new Mini or VW is a keeper :)

Current GS Adv machine price $41k

PML warranty is 2 yr unlimited mileage.

Jap bikes are good, efficient, effective but plain and boring.:dozed:

GSA is Awesome, intimidating, full of character, spirit & soul, cool:cool: but challenging at the same time.:shades:

Previous rides:95'GSXR1100,97'GSXR750,99'ST11ABS/CBS,01'ST11PE Police Model,02'GSXR1000,02'FJR1300,04'FJR1300'06'FJR1300.

Current rides:07'DR650,08'GSA1200.

IMHO, I think that "chicken rice" statement is a whole overstatement..... o_O

to me, the price diff btw a beemer and a Jap bike is due to PML's fat profit margin!! :sian: this explains the price diff btw chicken rice from Mandarin Hotel & the foodcourts

GSA might indeed have those advantages that you've attributed it to be, but to call Jap bikes "plain and boring", i think you've prob meant that all your past rides of your Jap bikes belong to the "boring" category, there's a whole lot of Jap bikes that would match your GSA, dollar-for-dollar, fun-for-fun, power-for-power!

Hi guys

I'm riding a GS1200 '07. Just curious how does the ABS on the beemer works? sometimes wen i hit the rear brakes i could feel some ejaculations on the brake pedal. Is it the due to the ABS or other factors? And how do we sustain a working ABS?? Thanks for the input....

Keke ... when I ride my bikes I feel near ejaculations but not at brake pedal area :)

Seriously, some say that when the ABS kicks in, the bike will shudder or stutter (from the brake/release of the ABS) but frankly, during my e-brake experiences I have never felt that. Plus yours is a R1200GS so I reckon that the ABS will be more developed than those of the 1150 series'? Perhaps smoother? Best thing to do is to perhaps run it through the BMW electronic diagnostic tool and know whether it is working once and for all.

The other thing that is similar is rear-jacking of the monolever under harsh braking but that is certainly not your case. Isn't there a disable method / button for the R1200GS's ABS, for off-road moments?

Urban myth or truth, to keep the ABS working you have to use it time to time. Low-batt voltage produces erratic flashing ABS lights on the 1100/1150 series.

Cheers

Actually SilberBullet and Nakano may be on the same theme. Silverbullet's statement that "The GSA is like Chicken rice from Mandarin Hotel and the Jap adv bikes are like Chicken rice from Food Court.(No offence meant)" can also mean that there is a premium on BMWs; just like Mandarin Hotel's chicken rice. (Personally I think Sing Swee Kee is best, but also got premium but that is another story :offtopic:).

Anyway, Silverbullet is clear that he was talking about his "previous Jap bikes" and it is therefore a personal view. I am always in the hunt for an adv bike; ... Nakano, share with me the list of "a whole lot of Jap bikes that would match your GSA, dollar-for-dollar, fun-for-fun, power-for-power!"? Thanks so much; would appreciate the info.

Jap bikes have been built too well to the point that they are almost faultless and hence considered "boring" as they do their job soo well. Their production is so efficient and cost effective that their prices tend to be more reasonable

on the other hand, italians are about passion, germans technology, brits pass glory and americans....well, i haven't gone there yet, so i will not comment (but i would like to have one BIG AR$E one at some point in time). machines are built in small numbers and by hand most of the time in old sheds/warehouses where the workers take a month off for summer holidays and hand polish the nuts and bolts....

Due to them being built for passion/technology/pass glory and not to work well, they will break down (for some reason or other) and have small problems that will drive you up the wall but you will cause you to HATE them but you will start to love as you grow to know them better....this is speaking from experience.

In a nutshell, Jap bikes are like the girl next door, plain, simple and faithful but the rest are like the red hot babe that you take to the dance and jaws will drop when you walk in with her, people take a second look at you and the babe and think, "What the toss is he doing with her!". This provides a HUGE boost to your manhood!

ok, back to work now.....

i am currently taking my class 2 and intend to get a bike (enduro style/all terrain) in NOV. intially i was set in buying a NEW TDM900(value for money/no need to loan), but i went down to HL and was told that they are not bringing in anymore.

So i was left with the following choices:

F650gs/f800gs

went down PML and was qouted for the OTR prices for both(more keen on f650gs because of the seat height). i was really in love with BMWs since young but what really put me off was the PRICE HERE BY PML(i was not offered any freebies). Did some searching and found that the prices is like 10k SGD higher than our counterparts in USA and EUROPE.

i really think that the PML's profit margin is really to much:dot:

Tiger 1050:

went down to MAH and was qoute a nearly identical price to the F650gs. Tiger= better power/torque but just don't quite relate to it.. but it's still a choice

V-strom 650/1000:

more keen on the 1000s than the 650 but the price is near to the tiger and f650gs hence its really out of the running, plus the support for this bike seems to be abit slow compare to the first 2 brands.

So i know if i buy the f650gs/f800gs i need to take a loan 10-14k but likely chance i will be thinking that what a *&^%^ i have been to pay so much more compare to my couterparts in USA/EUROPE. Tiger will be the pratical one but just don't have the feeling for her. V-strom will always be the last choice.

all comments are welcome....:cheeky:

go Loois Motor to check out the price for the F800gs. no 650gs that i saw.

it seems that they are selling it cheaper compared to pml's pricing. but it comes stock no accessories less the LED signal lights. saw a yellow one. go check it out. at pml, dun think you can take a 14K loan. minimum should be 20.

why not consider a DR650? its an easy to handle machine that is "dual-purpose" capable. DL650 is also a good choice in my opinion.

both of these bikes are good long distance, easy on the wallet machines. the vstrom has better wind protection and engine that accounts for its slightly pricier market value.

spares are indeed not well stocked up locally but they can be sourced and shipped in if you crash or drop your bike. dun let the lack of spares hinder your choice of bike. a few months back, even the local dealership did not have spare clutch cable for the f650gs. :sian:

PS: if the 800gs's seat height is too high for your liking, the DL1000 would not be a better choice as compared to the DL650.

first question is why 20k loan but not 10k-14k loan by pml?

second is i am looking for a 2 up touring hence don't really favour the 650cc. and parts wise it is always a concern. cause i like to do preventive maintaince instead of waiting for breakdown...:thumb:

Hhhmmm.. is there a minimum loan needed by PML? Not that i know of.

the loan is provided by HSBC (if I remember correctly) and subjected to approval. I guess the minimum is set by the bank.

My comments ... (caution - long post)

Pay what you are ok with for the bike. Yes, a simple statement but hard to put in practice. Sellers want a margin, buyers want a good deal - universal law; but ultimately the buyer has got to be happy with his purchase. When I bought my first beemer, I did not know the market price;- I simply paid the price that I was comfortable with, and bought the bike. Many will not do what I did but my take is that so long as you are not breaking the bank or if expending the money will not affect you badly, then why not? Value comes not just from the price but how you use the purchase.

Singapore has many commodities priced higher than other countries e.g. cars, petrol, chocolates etc and many other stuff cheaper than other countries too. I think that if one keeps thinking about and comparing the lower prices in other countries, then it will be difficult to enjoy what you have here. If you feel this way, imagine the foreign talent who had to pay PML prices for what they used to ride in their countries.

PML can mark up the prices simply because it is the agent and enjoying the fruits of being a near exclusive agent. They have overheads too. They have the pay the nice lady who called me today to attend the launch of the K1300S and the free dinner that comes with the launch. If a customer cannot take PML's prices, then the choice is to either buy it from a parallel importer, used or simply ride another marque.

Life is short, live within your means and find happiness. :)

Darn, I am ranting at midnite; must be the age. :)

Cheers

the tiger is sweet. i have a soft spot for them.

if you are unsure what you would like to ride as a first bike, get a 2nd hand one and go through the bikes and enjoy yourself.

it takes a few machines and many years before you find out what you really like/want to ride.
