Dear all,

This is a great site to check the recalls on BMW bikes:

http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/motorcycle_recalls/01/bmw/index.html

Better a recall than a hidden issue. Granted, while the fault should not be there in the first place, any company that launches a recall is being responsible.

Safe riding.

Hi Bro Fir_Chan,

is that your bike in the pic that brembo put up? wow, nice looking RT you have there. Care to share on what needs to be done for a long lasting ride? and also where to respray (bike or panniers).

Thanks

Hi Guys,

I am back from the servicing trip from BMW malaysia!

Wonderful experiences and excellent service!

Sent my bike for the service in the morning around 11 and collected it back around 3pm.

Full dignostic done and software upgrade perform. The following problems were found, the Cam Sensor timing out, BMSK software not "talking" to ECU and servo pump "sporadic" behaviours.

1st two problems were solved by the update and for the brakes, I did a brake fluid changed plus topup.

The bike is smoother now while at first gear and no problems have been experience while on the 400km trip back.

Brakes are also more powerful and responsive.

Total charges is way below what i have expected! $680 ringgit!

I would like to thanks all the people here who contribute their knowlegdes and advise for me! Thanks guys!

Lastly, I made a decision while at the workshop there, never let the technicians there to do the valve clearances....

Regards,

Jason

Wished i had an RT!!

But i dun..... haiz..... i am riding a GSA.

I always have this motto of ride more worry less.... think need to ask Brembo where to get the spraying done.

Hi all GSer,

Newbie here...I am planning to get a new GSA1200 and would like to know which factory features are "must have" or "good to have"? Could you share your views on the pro and cons of each items cos just want to make sure i spend it wisely...cheeky:

Here are the lists:

1. Tyre Pressure Control

2. Integral ABS (Partial)

3. ASC

4. Electronic Suspension Adjustment

5. On-board Computer with Oil Warning

6. Anti Theft Alarm

Thanks in advance for your inputs!

Ohh...Any meetup being planned soon? Would love to join in!

That's a very reasonable price to pay! :thumb:

Anyway, u need a cool engine to do valve clearance. Unless u park there overnight, u are better off not doing it.

Hi kspoh

Did not get the ESA back in 08 as i wanted to replace them with ohlins. At that time ohlins don't have electronic suspension replacement shocks for the GSA.

Have you given the Ducati Multistrada 1200 a thought besides the GSA?

If your usage is mostly road biase and very very rarely off road, i think the MS is better as it is so much lighter with higher BHP for performance.

Though initial cost for both is about the same, i think the maintenance cost of the Ducati will be higher in the long run.

Resale of both bike may be different as the GSA have a better resale value but i might be wrong.

Cheers

Hi bro Silverbullet,

Thank you for your reply. Are you saying that you would have bought the GS equipped with ESA now? i have a friend who used to ride a GS650 said he would not bother with ESA. Other than being able to program the riding mode for different terrain, it serve no other purpose rite?

What about the rest of the other features are they useful cos i am planning to just get ASC, ABS and Tyre pressure control? anyone care to input?

I did not considered DMS as i am aware resale/maintenance would be much higher even though i think i would be more road based. :)

Personally, i have only the ASC, ABS ad TPS......

Dun even have the normal regular OBC showing all the gadgets.... i dun need them nor do i missing out anything.....

More electronic functions.... more possibilities of possible F ups......

Anybody has bought a GS911???

Contemplating to get one.....

Hi kittosoft,

Automatic Stability Control(ASC)

ASC is designed to prevent rear wheel spin when you are throttle happy, particularly on wet and low grip road surfaces.

I think it works something like what is on the Honda, Traction Control System(TCS) ie the system senses the rear wheel spinning and it will retard the ignition timing and fuel flow to regain rear tyre grip and control of the motorcycle.

For off road use, the ASC can be disabled(switch off), allowing the rider to drift effortlessly around corners and obstacles.

Save the $$$ for the ESA and use it to buy replacement performance shock absorbers like Ohlins or Wilbers later when the warranty expires.

But if the ESA original shocks absorbers are Ohlins or Wilbers i will pay the extra $$$ for ESA.

For me ABS must have. ASC, TPC & OBC is good to have.

Hi, Kimhwee,

There are many schools of thought on backfiring. My own take on it is that if you are not experiencing surging, loss of power or increased consumption, backfiring is fine.

My R1150 backfires, and consumption and performance not affected since the day I owned it.

Cheers

hi coolcat,

i do experience some loss of power. as for consumption i'm not too sure what is the correct amount. able to advice? i think my fuel gauge is not very consistent, any idea how much it will be to service it?

consumption only affected when i ride it :p

guages are a bit tricky, best to measure it by amount of actual fuel used over distance.

how are you loosing power when you back off? is there surging and lag when you reopen the throttle? many possibilities, injectors out of sync is a possibility but i am no bmw expert.

Bro any news on the recall?

Checked with PML today.

I asked if my bike was affected by the recent recall and would like to confirm what the problem is.....

I was told that there isnt a problem...... but an "upgrade" :dot::dot:

I guess you can see the glass half empty or half full.....

But it was empty...... how come they fill it up for you???

I am just glad they they have me on the list and waiting for the parts to arrive and they will be calling me in for the "upgrade"

I guess everyone and anyone not sure if you are affected, do give them a call for this possible free "upgrade"!!!
