hey guys, just gotten my used drz

is it easy for u guys to change from gear 1 to neutral in stationary positon?

for me its difficult to do it stationary, need to change to gear 2, then go down to neutral.

but the bike is moving its easy though...

Yeah I get that sometimes. Same thing back on my KTM 200 EXC.

If the gears are too stiff though - changing between them feels consistently gritty or rough - it might be time for an oil change!

haha yeah, was wondering if this is a common characteristic for drz, if not then i guess its time for changing eo. haha. gonna head down to raptor one of these days!

I remember reading a similar post on the TT/SMjunkie forums about the DRZ's gear shifting being somewhat stiff; compared to the XR200 (my first) it's definitely requires more effort to shift, particularly from 1st to neutral/2nd. Meh.

I'm more concerned about the occasional CLUNK. Happened a couple of times already, and quite a bit on my old KTM.

Can consider checking ur clutch cable also. Is it stiff??

Right thing to do. Stiffness of clutch cable is caused by fraying of the wire strands within the conduit... time to change the cable.

There should be 3 to 5 mm of freeplay at the clutch lever.. anymore free play than that results in difficulty in gear shifting.

Don't forget that after change clutch cable liao must throttle slowly. Or else release clutch too fast due to your fingers getting used to the old stiff cable, the new smooth cable is much easier to release, causing stalling issues. Lol. Changing clutch cable is like changing bike. Have to find biting point all over again. Hehe

In my useless humble opinion....The fastest way to destroy the clutch cable is to use the ASV clutch lever with perch, I have seen enough of this damage in the past 2 years. Nice to look at, but totally useless... no better than a torn condom.

Anyway its your money and your bike.. do as you please.

I prefer Zeta anytime.

Shorter, curved for better finger reach.

It comes with the 'unbreakable' function too.

Got mine from Raptor last time...

Sorry I don't carry aftermarket perch levers that I have not used and tested on my own DRZ.

Those perch levers just look nice and blingy only to me... but their design is meant to be used with a clutch cable that does not need to run through meters or headlight assembly. When used on totally off road dirt bike.. the cable runs without sharp bends and therefore do not put any strain on the cable.. hence no breakage or stiffness.

And anyway... there is a remote front brake adjuster on the two Raptor MotorSports CBR60RR race bikes...which makes sense coz brakes can fade when heated on the track... so the adjusters help pick up the brake sponginess to normal pressure levels... but there is no quick adjuster for the clutch lever.

For that matter.. nobody adjusts the clutch play on the run.

Again.. this is only my humble point of view which may differ from rest of you guys.. its your money and your bike, please do not let my words offend or influence your thinking.

Ride safe everyone!

PS.. the only frame guards I have in stock for the DRZ are the Z-Carbon frame guards by Zeta.

Huh, so the perch levers physically add additional distance for two-finger clutchwork, but result in greater travel distance for the clutch cable?

I'll stick to my Zeta levers, thanks. Those are already a huge improvement over the stock ones (can't two-finger those).

Thanks encik for the view on asv.

Actually im looking for the 1 like the picture.

Using that on my drz.

The 3 clutch cable slots help alot for the tension.

Not a big fan of stiff clutch.

I fix the cable nipple to the 3rd far bottom so its softer and less force to pull in the clutch.

Anyway, do have red tmv chain guide, showa front suspension decal, sme bar end slider, ims pegs and motovation pegs slider?

Thanks

Mix & match is not allowed bro. Standby for love letter asking for $500. First timers can appeal and it will reduced to $200. If you are lucky, no letter will come at all like what some of my rider friends encounter.

LOL ok. But what's the rationale?

If you were to see it from a rider's point of view, I also find it bullshit.

But if you were to see from another point of view, imagine if everyone does the same as what you are doing, mix matching endcans with headers, not following LTA's requirements, can you imagine how noisy our roads are gonna be? If LTA approves yours, others will follow suit then I guess we all wont be able to sleep peacefully at night with all the noises. Maybe that's the rationale.

Ya but mix and match louder? I think there are some slip on louder than mine

actually if u go thru the forums here and elsewhere, u should be aware that most of us remind one another about LTA really onto bikes like DRZ therefore all the more you should be careful and not try your luck on this. Arrow header is not road legal. Mix n match of header and end can whether they are both legal or not itself is an offense. So you tried your luck and u got caught. To be honest nobody can find any rationale on this, wat more those who got caught and saman for minor things like LED signal lights? like wtf, wats the rationale there? leds dun blind other road users, they are bright and clearly visible so why fine us? bottomline, u and i live in our sunny island where the laws are set that way, its stupid for sure,i support u on that but hey, u broke the law, u pay the fine. its not about how loud, how fast u go sadly..u go fast, it will be TP who will saman u.. u could make a petition and all the riders here would gladly support your call for LTA to revise their guidelines. but who actually dares to confront and fight back? plead ur case, maybe they will let u off...good luck
