Hi All

Before someone decide to say do a "search", let me say I rather have it from the horses mouth so to speak and 1st hand fresh information.

So here is the deal, I am off work the whole Chinese New Year week! And plan to leave my kid with my mom so that my wifey and I can have some together time on a bike again... Its been 3 years since the kid came along and gone are the riding together days.

Anyway the plan is hit the road on 30 Jan early morning and be back by 1 Feb.

Wanna ride around Ipoh area and wondering anything interesting that anyone would recommend. It would be nice to have the address or even the GPS coordinate to the place.

I have intended to stay in Kampar for 1 night and Ipoh for 1 night. So far I have listed these possible place to visit:

- Gua Tempurung

- Kata Kinjang waterfall

- Charcoal factory in Sepetang

Anywhere else you guys would suggest, also eating place would be a plus if you have recommendation. I have cross out places like Kellie Castle, Leaning Clock tower...

Thanks in advance for the help rendered to a fellow rider.

There's not much sightseeing at Kampar. There's Wesley Methodist School and the church just across the trunk road. If you are a church-goer and attend Sunday church, you might make new friends who will bring you around or recommend you an intinerary. They are friendly people.

I've stayed at Kampar for a week a long time ago with friends who are locals. And frequently bypassed the town in my car or bike. The most recent was by bike in March 2010, and by coach end July 2010 up to K. Kangsar to collect my bike which was left there.

Since you're spending a night at Kampar, you might want to try the claypot rice. They only start selling at night - just ask any local Chinese for directions. It's better than the one in S'pore Chinatown.

I like the kopi ais here cos I think it's the best in Singapore and Malaysia, and you might want to buy some of their coffee beans home. That also includes the 'Hand'(thumbs-up) brand of groundnuts, which are manufactured in Kampar, this factory used to be located in town east of the trunk road. Of course you can buy it back in Singapore, but you might want to snack there on fresher ones.

There's also kai-chai pang(chicken biscuits) if you like them, which I don't.

The forested area is east of the trunk road - 'easily-lost' area, if you like bashing through undergrowth. You might want to go through access paths near the cemetery north of the town and east of the trunk road. But of course, the forested area is east of the trunk road.

I think there's a river where you can float downstream in a tyre tube. I can't confirm cos I didn't try it.
