Sori to borrow ur thread guys...

Im riding an Africa Twin an recently I bought a voltmeter to fix on my bike. The brand is Timex which I bought at Motoworld. The problem is when I ride, the needle fluctuate a lot like as if the needle is loose. But when I stop, the needle point to 12V. Is this normal?Anyone using this voltmeter before?Need ur experience guys.

Thanx!

1st mistake is that they hav fix up the wiring wrongly....and they hav to earth yr meter to a larger surface...

2nd mistake is that u fix it at motoworld.....:sian: :faint: enough said.......

i am a victim b4.........:giddy:

SmicerBoy > Is it possible that some fluctuatn is expected. Here's my take: The alternator produce the alternating current which get converted to DC via the rectifier and volt regulator. The fluctuatn is caused by the reverse polarity at each cycle and in a way shows that the alternator is working. When in idle speed, the voltmeter is actually taking the reading from the battery as the alternator is just trickling charge it.

ATMaDness > 2 questions: Does the needle fluctuates violently from end to end or just dittering at a mark. If violently then somethg haywire. Also when you say yr bike stop, needle is steady but what happen when you rev upat neutral..does the needle fluctuates like before?

PD TRIP

Also you might want to take note:

a. If weather like Singapore, then put on some suntan lotion or wear long sleeves else you will feel like a microwave oven in the evening. If you have thick elephant skin, ignore this point

b. Was told to expect some stretch of road will have high crosswinds. Beware when overtaking or being overtaken by high sided vehicle else you get blown into Malacca straits. I would hold firm on handlebar, hug d bike w/ my knees and put some weight on footpeg. Do tell you pillion rider what to do

Ride safely and keep your distance from the bike infront n follow yr ride captain instructions..

DO FILL UP AT STATIONS WHEN TOLD - YOU NEVER KNOW THAT EXTRA 1 LITRE THAT U TOT U DON"T NEED COULD MEAN A DELAY TO THE GROUP.

DO EMPTY YOUR BLADDER AT EACH STOP OR YOU 'LL BE SORRY

DO MAKE KNOWN YR FAMILY CONTACT NO N RESORT NO JUST IN CASE....

DO KNOW D TOWING OR BIKEBULANCE NO JUST IN CASE...

Daniyal > OK to meet at Jjn Ibrahim Shell station. Will bring clutch cable, foot pump, tyre repair kit, spare plugs. elastoplast, surfboard .. hey, with such backup, we can go to Phuket if we get lost on way to PD..

ROVERS.. could we b mistakenly associated w/ the LAND ROVER 4WD or the ROVER car (Honda engine) or even Tampines Rovers FC ?

Dakar > It was either the suftboard or waterskii but I think better leave both at home

I once saw a big lassie type dog between the legs of a scooter rider in Singapore. Weird...

I will go without my sidebox, but my top box will likely be almost empty. So if you want to pass me the gears, no problem.

yes...fluctuation is expected....if the volt meter is digital type..it will show out the exact fluctuation reading..but normally it will charge up till maximum(let say ar 14.5v) n fluctuate a bit of 0.1-0.5v only.

When in idle speed, the voltmeter is actually taking the reading from the battery as the alternator is just trickling charge it.= Yes...it will fluctuate a bit oso...

morale of the story is that digital voltmeter is more accurate than analog type..n analog type will not fluctuate like hell...!!!!

Aren't our tyre tubeless?

If need to pump air when the tyre is hot from all the riding... Just pump the tyre a bit higher pressure to compensate for the higher temperature.
