Hey everyone! I tried searching for some info on the forum, but couldnt find anything so I might as well start a new thread. Anyway, all bros n sis, got any shop to recommend where they can help 'knock back' your dented tank back to normal? Mine seems like its possible, like those ping-ping ball which have been compressed, just need to pop it back out.

Reason for the dent: Assesment was made and conclusion is that some low-life *@#$ driver hit-and-run my bike during the night while it was parked overnight in my school. Bike was parked under brightly lit designated area for bikes, and yet this can still happen... -_-... Car/lorry/van must have side-swapped the bike, causing it to come crashing down on the left hand side. Today when I went to retrieve the bike, was in a pitiful state. Left signal, my aftermarket mirrors gone. Erp bracket bent. Seat side ripped. Tank dented. Given that this happened in a university, I would have expected at least the culprit to be gracious enough to write a note or at least pick my bike or something, but I guess not... haizzz...

it's possible to hammer the dent back to normal shape, ask around bike shops.

how u get a hammer go in n once inside the tank generate enough force in a small space to hit back the dent?

i dont think it's possible to get the original shape after it's dented. cheapest method might be another tank. cos i've seen a lot of tank dents that seem to have no way to fix.

maybe another solution is to putty the dent n get it repaint.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

Singapore UNI alot of foreigners one. Graciousness is dead in Singapore.

Anyway, you can ask around the bike shops. Some of them can knock the tank back to shape from inside, depending on the nature of the damage. If its really damn bad, you can get a new tank, or putty and paint back the tank.

ok i did some google on how to repair dent tanks, n it's not like d3ath4all said, just no way to hammer it back.

1) suckion cup

2) dry ice (dont know how it work)

3) put water n freeze the whole tank (like a soda can)

4) drill the tank

even if u get the dent out, it still wont be the original shape.

Thanks for the info guys... means there is still hope. Will be checking with some of the the shops you guys recommended. If there is any other shop, please let me know, for the benefit of all bikers who visit this fourm as well! Will update on my status.

Hello Polarisx,

you can find details on this thread.

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php/252940-Dent-Removal

which ntu carpark you park at?

Parked overnight at Hall 5 bro. Once u go up the slope, the 1st bike lot near the 2 red-white crash barriers. Most probably a lorry coming into Hall 5, when going up the slope when turning into the pick/drop off area here must have swung in wide, hitting my bike, causing in to come crashing down. If u go there u'll know what I m talking about.

There's one dengerous technic that i've seen old Sifu do. 1 Wash the tank clean. 2 cover all any holes. 3 take a high pressure air hose and pump in air. It helps to push out the dent, but could be dengerous since non of us are used to doing that, It just might exploed in our face.

Time for a bigger bike....

The knocking cost me about 150 bucks. Waited for 2 weeks as i needed to respray my whole bike.

How much would it cost for a new tank?

dont like that say.. lets face it, our society is not very gracious to begin with. i not sure about the uni he is studying, but i see SIM, many students that drive are locals.

dry ice method is not likely to work. it can work on car bonnets etc cos the metal is thinner, therefore easier. most bike tanks are very thick. i know angmohs have tried it on fz6 and it doesn't work.

anyway TS, just go to bikeshops that provide spray paint service, they will settle it for you. shops like HL cycle, soon fah, sanfu just to name a few.

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

Looking at the dent, i think no problem to knock back to 99 percent. If u go to the bike shops they will say they need to knock back by cutting the tank and respray or by pumping high pressure air into tank....blah blah at the end charge you hundreds . In the end i think they sent the tanks to this old guy at Kallang Ave...and he charges only 30 to 40 . Hope he has not retire liao
