Hello,

I've been an avid gamer since my secondary school days but usually play with Europeans or Americans. Recently realise the crazy timezones are making me stay up late or wake up very early in the morning for no reason other than to play games. Since I have fun stuff to do during office hours, suffice to say I don't wish to keep up the vampire routine.

So I thought to pop by and ask what's hot these days in the MMO department. I don't mind subscription based play so long as the gameplay is somewhat complex and teamwork is a must.

TBH, local MMOs, or even those located in Asia (Korean, TW) based ones are pretty behind in terms of technology. Not up to par with offerings from Europe or US.

I'd stick to Euro/US based ones. At least I can enjoy the quality graphics and gameplay. Plus there's something abt playing with Korean and China players. Many of them are just petty or are fuucking griefers. LOL. Game and player quality seriously lacking.

Even local players can be asses too. Some local FPS players. LOL..... all i can say.

there's alway the tendency to meet some players who r **** up, no matter which game.

depend on what u're looking for in a game, all MMO game require some sort of teamwork at certain time line. asiasoft has quite a selection of games, however i see their games always seems to flock with kids.

the problem with oversea games is that u get more latency lag as compared to local. no way to solve even if u have fibre. WoW is an example of never dying forever expanding game.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

Player aside, the quality of the game matters too. I'm talking about graphical and build quality. Most of the Asian games have either 2D graphics or very rudimentary 3D graphics. You want quality, look at games like EVE Online.

BTW, something that a colleague of mine told me. He subscribed to one on the Fiber plans. Discovered that local access was super fast. But overseas access is slower than his previous DSL plan.

Then I picked up a Starhub brochure on their fiber plans and saw that they indicated their International access speed. Indeed, the lower range fiber plans do have slower international throughput than current cable plans! You may get 50Mbps, 75Mbps or 100Mbps internet... but those are for local sites! The international speed was written as 30Mbps. Throttling or bandwidth limitation... I'm leaning more towards throttling.

Why the hell do I get a fiber plan and have worse access speed? Taking into account that we access mostly overseas web content.

Update: Haven't been clocking up time in MMORPGs yet, despite finding some possibly nice ones.

My favourite, Granado Espada (US version "Sword 2") has become totally dead, so I won't waste time on it. Then I discovered some very nice singleplayer games, Aquanox and its sequel (sci fi submarine combat), SimCity Societies (nice and challenging city management) and of course IL-2 is pretty good if you can get people to host 16-32 player missions for you. Does not have persistence like MMORPGs but then again these games are easy to pick up and play without needing to spend 50 hours grinding to level 76...
