My say would be prevent overheating. Bike get heated up easily when they are stationary while waiting at the traffic light. Overheat can cause loads of problem to your bike.

But I think constantly starting and killing the engine wouldn't do much good either.

Overheating?

I mean, typically traffic lights here takes a minute or 2, then you move off.

Probably just some air cooled bikes might have a tiny issue, but I do wonder is there a point in it after all.

If the bike will explode/ implode just by waiting 1-2 minutes, then there is more to the heat that you should worry about.

I have never heard of an air-cooled bike overheated.

Most likely it's a liquid cooled bike that will overheat when remain stationary for too long.

Back to the topic.

Turning off one's engine at the lights is just a wayang practice in some parts of the western world to reduce emission and carbon footprint.

You do that in Singapore, abit slower off the light already kena horned. Don't talk about starting engine, engaging gear, sure kena throw spanner

Yeah, that’s about 500 miliseconds between the lights turned green and you hearing a honk from the guy behind. 300 miliseconds if the car behind is a taxi or a commercial vehicle.

I got a 500 miliseconds one last week, I was the first car and the car that honked was actually the 3rd car in the queue…. Amazing reflex :thirsty:

traffic lights, not necessary, only like 1-2min at most.

do encounter train crossing junction, can make u wait 5min, then i switch off.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?
