2 months ago I bought a CB400 and recently found that the Engine number in the vehicle is different from that of document from LTA. I have been advised to legally change the engine without which I can't renew road tax. I would like to know where I can get old engine for CB400 (from scrapped bike?) and how much it may cost. If I can't change the engine I may have to scrap the bike. Will I get any money if I scrap the bike?

CB400 - From Jan/11, ~150 kms :thumb:

CBR150 - From Feb/09, ~ 18K kms, Will miss soon

Royal Enfield 350 - From Jun/02 to May/06, ~80K kms, Miss it :(

My seller (a fellow forum member) says he is not aware of these! :-( I am already in touch with LTA and current assumption is that some one changed the Engine previously but never inform LTA!

obvious reasons...

i try get a refund if i were u. not worth the hassle to go thru the trouble. if not get the seller to settle, imo, u the buyer should not be thrown the trouble for legality issues.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

If your engine and chassis number do not tally with the record, you won't be able to scrap the bike.

Why should the seller do this? I don't have any hold on him as I already pay the full amount!

regardless if it was the seller who changed it, if i were the seller n i know what i'm holding is illegal, i'll try to get rid of it asap.

since u paid in full, if i were the seller n i dont know u personally, the better, he has nothing much to discuss about. that's why i'm advising u to get refund from him or get him to settle this issue, u should bug him until he gives in. although if i were the seller, i would change my num immediately.

like i said earlier, it could be a stolen bike.

cant get that engine(thats already on) inspected and approved?

the thing is it's an unknown chasis number from an unknown source, how do u get LTA to approve that?

Wrong, Chasis is original with correct number as registered with LTA. Only the Engine number is wrong, actually engine number is same as Chasis number! I believe that someone changed Engine but wrongly put chasis number instead of Engine number!

Mmmm.... Looks like you are in a picket here bro.

Since the seller don't want it back, and you can't find the engine to put back to make it legal, and worse of all cannot scrape, one way out, but is illegal is to pay someone to file off the number then re-engrave with the number in the LTA records.

But don't get caught. It is afterall illegal. :help:

Another way that I thought of is to sell it overseas, but not sure if LTA allows it with the chassis number not tallying. :(

Motorcyclist are the nicest people on the road, try not to kill us.

Sometimes the simplest solution is the best.

Bajaj Pulsar 180 - UG3 (2007 - )

Suzuki GSXR-400 (2008 - 2009)

Piaggio Vespa GT 200L (2009 - 2011)

Yamaha YBX 125 (2010 - )

Yamaha FZ S1 '05 (2011 - )

The current owner have to bear . The LTA will only fine the current owner. Nothing to do with previous owner. That why buyer need to check chasis and engine number as in the LTA record is tally or not.

To solve the problem. PM me. Cannot state here. If not next time no lobang.

Sure problem solve with legal method.

Final update, LTA allowed me to scrap the bike. Now, looking for my next bike!

Doomxxx is correct, current owner has to bear it all.
