my front sprocket tend to give off squeal sound when i turn the back wheel.

once after washing the my bike, i dose my chain and sprockets with WD-40 to displace water before lubricating it. the squeal goes away. as WD-40 is a light lubrication, it come back after a few days.

i am looking for some spray lubrication that is not sticky and leave just a thin layer so it will not attract dirt. chain lube spray tend to leave a layer of grease/oil that will attract dirt. anything recommendation? will those silicon spray work? GT85?

thanks.

You are supposed to wipe off excess lube.

For me, eo is good enough.

Never ever ever use any wd-40 on your chain or bearing.. It will remove all the lube leaving your chain running dry.. Then you will get noisy rattling chain.. Then your chain will stretch like nobody business.. Please put this wd-40 far away from your bike chain...

To add, wd40 makes a great cleaner. Diesel works fine, too. Going to be odd buying diesel, though.

Ya have to lube after cleaning, though.

i using EO for my chain. the problem is i can't reach the front sprocket easily with EO as it is covered. the area i trying to lube is the centre of the sprocket where the bearing are.

the issue about 4d40 is that it destroy ur o-rings...

If youre thinking wd-40 is a great cleaner for chain, then you are very wrong... Wd-40 will prevent the new chain lube from sticking as well.. Please get a proper degreaser for your chain...

If you say so...

My three year old chain cleaned by nothing but wd40 and lubed by engine oil...

Mine must be a special case...

Since it lasted so long...

And the chain didn't get damaged...

Leaving wd40 on your chain, bad. Dispel it by saturating it with eo good. Wiping off excess even better.

Nothing wrong with specialized chain cleaners, except it doesnt let you observe closely your chain health. A toothbrush, on the other hand... (notice the proper use of epilipses, used to denote the speaker trailing off.)

Mantaining slack length with religeous regularity while doing all this is best. Commercial chain cleaners are alright, but do not be mistaken in believing that is the best solution.

For me, what i believe is best is something i dont have the time, or patience, to do. Entire removal of chain, soaking it in diesel to dislodge crud, cleaning with a brush, and then soaking in gear oil. Very troublesome.

Dont do that. If you want to lube the wheel bearings, you have to dismantle the wheel, and lube the bearing with heavy machine gease. Not eo.

Looks like i misread. Odd that your sprocket is making the noise. Shouldent the transmission shaft from primary to secondary transmission be sealed?

What bike are you riding, btw? If you could open the front sprocket cover, that would be a good start to see if that little part is damaged or not. The front cassette should not move off its axis

Or if you are lucky, it could be something caught inside the sprocket cover making all that noise. I had a twig this one time, all stuck and covered in gunk.

Good luck!

Actually, i dont see a need to lube the part that ure intending to lube.. The bearing is sealed to prevent eo from coming out.. Even motorshop never lube that part.. If youre saying you wanna lube the sprocket the eo you apply on the chain will lube the sprokect as well.. If you wanna lube the pinion shaft part, the eo will find its way there..

i am riding Spark 135. nearly 8000km on the bike. i discover the noise around 3000km plus. i asked some friends and they told me it is normal. but i tried turning the wheel of other spark 135 it doesn't have the sound. it a squealing sound. if it is normal, i will be happy to leave it alone.

i leave it as it is until once as mention, i use WD-40 to remove water on the chain area after bike wash as water cause my chain to rust from the last wash. after spraying the sound was gone for a few days so i tot it have something to do with lubrication. maybe i just bring to yamaha care centre for service since my bike is still under warranty.

as for whether WD-40 is suitable for chain can we leave that out? i really do not want to go into another never ending debate. if anyone is interested, please start a new thread on that. futher more, i have never mention anything about lubricating the chain with WD-40. i was only using it for drying the chain. i will very much appreciate the help on the sprocket part. thanks!!!

To dry your chain after wash, go for a short ride around your carpark.. Right after the short ride is the best timing to lube your chain with proper chain lube.. WIPE OFF excess chain lube from the chain to prevent dirt from sticking to the chain.. Not using wd-40 to displace the water.. Remaining wd-40 in the chain will degrease and wipe off new layer of chain lube.. Thats when your sound comes back..
