Hi Guys,

The makan ride was great and I would say quite a success. Kudos to our tour guide Riz for bringing us up the pavement with those two pillars haha. Anyways next Ride maybe a bit further ah? As BBB said no proper carbon clearing ya. Hope to join you guys again for the next round and maybe the next round all those of you who missed it can join us... can make convoy with formation if we have more than 10 bikes hehe.

Actually, the pic is the K1200RS and the specs list it as being lighter than the BB. Initial response says it will blow the BB to the weeds too. :thumb:

well number and pic is one issue. Lookin from the meter of the bike the top is 280km/h.

Being a shaft driven bike i doubt it can really be stable and hit at that speed. well unless i am wrong lah.

Anyway it is a inline4 engine and this is bmw 2nd bike using a inline4. First was the K1200GT,LT and now this new monster K1200RS

wonder why bmw dont compare thier bike with a Jaded and old bike like a blackbird they should have compared it with a Busa or ZZR1200. Bird have been around for almost 7yrs

Hi guys,

Listed below are the specs for the k1200s

Top Speed: 175 mph

Power: 167bhp

Torque: 96lb.ft

Engine: 1157cc

Bore x stroke: 75 x 59 mm

Compression ratio: 13:1

Fuel system: fuel injection

Transmission: 6-speed

Frame: aluminium alloy twin spar

Front suspension: Duolever

Adjustment: compression

Rear suspension: Paralever

Adjustment: compression

Brakes front; rear: 2 x 320mm discs/4 pot calipers;

265mm disc/ 2 pot caliper

Tyres Front rear: Metzeler Sportec M1

120/70 ZR17

190/50 ZR 17

Dry Weight: 248kg

So looking at these specs it shows clearly that the BMW is heavier than the XX at the same time the top speed of the BMW is only 175mph / 281.75 kmh while the XX is 186 mph / 299kmh. With only 135bhp and 79lb of torque i think honda did a good job at squeezing the most out of the bike.

Anyways the BMW has many new technological breakthroughs like remote electronic suspension adjustment, better ABS and many other gadgets. If got money maybe consider but I think maybe when I'm much older like 40 plus, if cannot get 7 series then k1200s also can lah.

No offence intended, but i am not sure where you got those figures from.

BMW's official sources states 248kg is the bike "fully fueled and road ready" That means full tank + engine oil + coolant + whatever else that needs to be added for the bike to be OTR. Dry weight is about 215kg.

I have attached the pdf file here for everyone's viewing.

As to the 'top speed' stuff, it's really all academic. It is a well known fact that Honda overgeared the BB to beat the zx11 on top speed stakes. Many BB riders have since tried down gearing their birds and found that it transforms the bike totally, improving response.

I am not trying to knock any bike here, much less compare against any bike in particular. Every bike has it's merits. I suspect the K12 will be landmark bike because the japanese have not really been active in this section of bikes. This could be the hypersport bike of the late 2000's. Comparing figures, the k12 has more torque than the busa! They have tested this bike at Nurgburgring, and the lap time is ONLY 10seconds off the unofficial bike lap record which was set on a HRC spec RC30. If you consider that the track is 17miles long 10 seconds is really nothing! Any current hypersports be it the Busa or zx12 or Bird would have a seriously hard pushed to get near those times.

Hi there,

The sources was quoted from Bike magazine... maybe there was a mistake between the dry weight and when fully loaded. Anyways thanks for the heads up. Do appreciate any honest opinions and I must say.. the BMW is the bike which is paving the future for all models and brands of bikes. With all these new gadgets that the BMW has the Japanese will be forced to implement similar or even better technology just to keep up with the competition.
