Anybody replace new/recon engine before? Legally can be done?

I just got a madass, the engine i would very much like a newer honda wave 125 one then the bore out c90 engine. Is it possible to import one or order from boon siew? Then notify change of engine with LTA. Their website allows change in particulars of vehicle, that includes engines, but need inspection of course.

Better to write to LTA first to ask.

What I read was can change engine, but must be from same type of bike, same cc.

I think Boon Siew won't be interested to sell you the engine. It too much a hassle for them. If I'm not wrong, the agent will also have to provide a letter to LTA to explain why the need to change the engine.

If i self import the engine, or same cc but different model can?

I assumed LTA only accept the same stock engine which is designed for the bike. Which is why a letter from the Agent is needed to prove it.

I can understand LTA concern as every vehicle had to go through a R&D and quality testing process prior to the mass production. Hence if you change to another engine, the quality assurance will not be there and therefore no road worthy.

 

This is based on my assumption but it does make sense. By the way, I'm not sure if you need to "scrap" the spoilt engine in order to replace the engine. Theoritically you can only have one chassis and one engine.

 

However if you want engine, I do sell Honda general purpose engine though. I got a 690cc V twin engine, interested? Hahaha.

The engine still can be used, see how it performs after readjusting the timing chain and tensioner. Will consider engine swop later.

LTA... even changing lights to led are considered illegal..
