it will be great if is possible for me to take a look =D if i wanna use the motor batt for e system will it be possible ?

lastly i wanna ask x9 is using dry or wet batt ?

originally should be using wet type but guess most had changed to dry thus saving the hassle to check every now and then.

so in conclusion both wet n dry also can use and dry type will cost more..

Ray, yours is x9 evo, original loc. should be on the right mirror. You may not need to take out the whole front panel to re-locate :p

Bro, seems like no one is answering your queries....

cus there are not many X9 500 riders around.

Let me have the honor to answer your doubts.

My company has the X9 500 Amalfi for coming to 4 years now, and it

is running strong.

I have ridden this X9 500 to places like Camerons Highlands, Malacca etc.

Some major things that my experience tells me to take note.

Electronic main stand. This is the major-est or the major problems. A lot of ex-riders of this bike sold got rid of their 500 because of this problem. Ironically, my 500 never encountered any problems with the stand. but still, we took care of the stand.

- Remember to always activate your main stand while your engine is still running. As we experienced that the activation of the mainstand consume quite alot of power. in future event where your battery life is ending, to activate the stand without the dynamo running will just kll your battery.

- Amalfi 500 is one of the toughest scooter to push down from the main stand as the electronic stand is incline in a tough angle to maximise the effect of the electric stand. However tougher it is though, this is the difficult part, you have to die die master how to pull down the mainstand without you sitting on it, rocking it off, thats is the fastest way to spoil the stand.

- Take care of the internal mud flaps that is just above the rear tyres, as it age, the rubber flap might warp and curve in the way of the rear tyre, eventually touching the rear tyres, ended up chewing off the mud flap and worst scenario cut short your tyre life.

- I did a prempt to seal up the front digital display panels to prevet leakage from the rain and might eventualy short circuit your digital panel. Best of all, do the seal and get the OEM aftermarket panel cover that is easily available at the major scooter servicing specialties shops.

- windscreen has known to cloud after some time. Take care of it. How? erm, my mechs wax it once every forenightly. correct or not? you be the judge.

- Engine of the 500 amalfi has never been a problem if timely servicing is done. Our X9 500 was frequently tested to the max speed (175kph) but it still hums like an angry ox.

I cant think of any others now...let some one else carry on what I hve forgotten. ;)

Hope this information helps

yes it does help. thx for the advice. The stand seems to rob much of the battery power. im not the sort to sit on the scooter and rock it off. Ive got the habit to take it off the stand before sitting on it.

i had an x9-250 once and im pretty cautious about the digital panel. Once water got it, thats it, gonner.

Tho.. roughly how long is the batt lifespan, with daily riding. And another question.. The PICS system, does water get into that?

I gather that u might actually work for Piaggio.. and since the scoot is under warranty, any service bulletins, etc that i need to take up? Does Piaggio offer preventive maintanence since the problems are known?

And will changing to a Leo vince pipe/malossi variators void the warranty?

I will get the bike in a week or so as piaggio requires the bike to be re-inspected again... and once i get it, im gonna silicon the digital display and perhap try to waterproof the wiring.. Piaggio might be able to help heh.

Thanks for the help again.

I believe that some riders had actually 'converted' the hydraulic main stand into a manual one....

good guess on me working with Piaggio... ;) but I am no expert with the scooters, talking more out of just experience.

The battery life should be quite generic, probably need more attention after a year or so and so far no one has complained that the PICS got bumped by water, but then agin, Not many riders used the PICS extensivey cus while travelling about 80kph, you probably dun catch anything you hear due to the wind.

Once your scooter is registered, we would have a warranty record on your scooter and probably information on you also. So there is no requirement of a service booklet. But regret to say that there are no preventive maintainance courses offered so far.

Unless its problems relating to the changes of LV pipes or Malossi accessories, I guess warranty is still intact.

When you got your scooter, call Piaggio (6547 4466) and look for Mr Yap to see if he can cater for the sealing of the panel and etc.

got mine brand new, machine price is abt 7k. box and PICS thrown in. OTR, almost 10k. yeap, 2nd hand x9s 500s are cheap but condition quite bad and im not gonna spend a few k repairing it. New buy also means Piaggio 1 yr warranty.

i know its a risky buy but i like the feel of the x9, its comfortable and stable. pretty light too. since its brand new, its entirely my fault if i screw it up.

i almost got the Nexus but the riding position was pretty awkward and the sit is perched high, very sports bike. I already have a sports bike, dont want another. Need an all rounder ;)

its good to do some Kulai trips on eh.. the last time i took my X9 250 there, i came back with clutch and carb problems. now its dead. heh heh.

Brembo, heard u took the Nexus there and a piece of the rim came flying out. Perhaps its a good test for the 500 as well.

so.....am i correct to assum that big cc (class 2) scooters more suitable for in island riding???

Its ok la... i also not into touring... mebbe just the occassional top up at GP.

thats why now feel my 1300cc is an overkill for me...... but still loving it.

seriously speaking for town riding, a 250cc is more than adequate. 250cc bikes are light, fuel consumtion minimal and accelerate faster than most cars (which is impt at traffic lights). Top speed at 130, which is all that u ever need. its just that local mentality is since i can get 400, why get a 250. That is also why lovely VFR800s lose their value fast, when metality is that i can get a 1000cc for almost the same price.

i had the x9 250, and i consider it to be a jewel among scooters. it really had a good, useful engine.

wahaha....bad news sure spread like wild fire!

That trip was to Mersing, i was caught by a nasty surprise too...well i guess it might due to other reasons....its a bit "dirty" there hehe. and to what i knew, a week or so later, an x9 200 rider encounterd the same rim crack thing there at the same bend!

watever...

ok, anyway, my last trip on the X9 500 was to malacca yesterday...all was smooth, and as usual, i was never disappointed with the more then sufficient power that a 500cc can give. The pick-up is adequate too. Seating and my pillion are comfortable. Big storage space...what can i ask for. Its just the perfect touring scooter. oh yes, i have clocked the mileage during the trip, was whacking it at average 150kph the whole time, sipped just 1 litre over 22km...very nice reading!

Before that i took the X9 to the lovely Cameron bends...its not the best cornering machine, i still scrap my main stand quite a number of times.

going downhill, i clocked an good 38km per litre...

This december, a colleague was jioing me to Phuket, all is not planned yet but if we were going, we would take the X9 and the Nexus....that will be the ultimate showdown between tis 2 Italy's flagship 500cc scooters.
