Hmm, new IU is 5 years warranty. I replaced mine for free at the start of this year due to an "unforeseen failure", hehehe.

Think it is possible to fry it by switching polarities on the battery terminals. With your other electrical components disconnected, of course.

But the thing is, the shop don't want to offer a new one nor a used workable one

Go and ensure that they compensate you a workable one. Or source for a 2nd hand unit. I'll help you ask around too, think I'll visit ah chong and ask him.

Another way will be to visit scrapyards and see if they do have some available.

What are you riding though?

Is it compulsory to install a IU unit? its ugly

i dun tink so, except wen gg for inspection.. i've read some riders use a 9V battery to power their IU units so it is portable n dun hv to be permanently fixed onto the bike...

Went to vicom just now. They said that once the iu unit cover has dropped out/broke, warranty void. Even so, they dont have replacement covers. Now i have a naked iu unit, and its the monsoon season.

can't this type of BS from shops be reported to LTA? I guess you can also try with vicom if your IU still got warranty.
