Hi everyone this is Mienz.

I took the CSAC recently too. My frens advise were true, the exam tips given by the lecturers (esp. the old timers) not useful anymore and outdated. They are not allowed to see the recent exam questions anyway.

safety industry is getting saturated....even the pay is decreasing.i myself is a registered safety officer with the following certs:-opisc,sdwsh,acta,hazmat,fire fighting,confine assesor,confine space entry n rescue,chemical safety,manhole,eco....bachelor degree in occupational safety fr psb on the way...yet i haf not able to get a job as a wsho.so for those who is thinking to join the industry,my advice is to do ur homework well.juz my humble opinion.

well, personally , I think experience plays a big part in landing a safety job...me myslef just got one...but since its from a different industry den marine wic Im accustom to, cant expect same level of pay pakage

true there a many wsho job out there..BUT there are some who offered low pay like a few i went recently offering abt 3k although they know my current salary which is way way above than that.even then they keep asking to adjust my asking salary giving many excuses of the current economic climate in the safety industry.mind u i am a registered wsho,not a safety sup....some job posting are repetitive meaning sum1 join for a short time, left for other company for whatever reason they had.working in safety is not ez as it is very important to have the commitment and support from top management.else you will get frustrated and eventually leave.nevetheless that is the challenge of being a wsho...like some experience guys here said,knowledge is important.we can snake our way during the interview and the land the job.but if u dun haf the knowledge and skills in that particular industry,reality will set in eventually and you will struggle if u cant catch up.i have seen may safety guys in tis situation.i have been working in the oil/gas industry for 10years,though i may know the wsh act and regulations,it will not be easy for me for example to be a wsho in the construction.it is about some1 life u r talking here.it is no joke....so far only 1 wsho have been given a warning by the commissioner,if i am not wrong.

 

lastly i must agree to a certain degree that it is not a matter of WHAT u know only in the safety industry,it is also important for WHO u know....it is a marriage of the 2 and with luck,u will strive.

 

so much abt that...if any1 do know of their company require wsho/hse/ehs/consultant/she/safety/associate trainer do pm/inform me.my resume will follow up with that.

Yeah, stay steadfast to your demands and don't back down as these employers are treating safety personnel as redundant. They are just looking for good but cheap labour just to fulfil MOM requirements.

hi all, i have a qns. i have been invited to the MOM interview to be a WSH Inspector but then i was told by the HR that there will be a written assessment prior to the interview. Anyone has attended the MOM interview to be a WSH Inspector and the written assessment? if so, how is the interview and is the written assessment difficult? what is it about? thanks.

you can go to mom website http://www.mom.gov.sg/workplace-safety-health/applications-registrations/competent-person/Pages/workplace-safety-and-health-officer.aspx to register, providing u have 2 yrs of safety experiences and relevant certs.

 

Advanced cert in wsh for sg/pr is $283 and specialist dip in wsh is $1300+

 

salary varies for fresh dip grad $1000+ to $2000

how to advise you without knowing much of your background??

 

1. how old are you?

2. what is your background/experience/qualification/education/skill set?

3. what is your inspiration in life for the next 3, 5, 7 and 10 years?

4. what is your current pay vs mom's pay? $700 difference is how many percent?

5. what is your current job and job scope?

6. what is the job scope of a mom wsh inspector?

7. what other welfare and benefits offered by mom?

8. how strong is your desire to be a wsh inspector?

9. what if you decline the offer, what other aspect/career path will you be looking into?

10. what is the prospect as wsh inspector in future? senior wsh inspector or wsh director or best, wsh minister?

10. comparing with your peers (in or out of safety line), where do you stand?

11. with $700 difference, can survive?

12. got increment, promotion bor? when? how soon, how much?

 

the sooner you share the answers to the above questions, the sooner you will have the advice pouring in. good luck.
