Loving my maxsym scooter even more after my trip to hatyai

tested and able to withstand long journey (about 1000km each way)

4 petrol stops

cruised comfortably mostly at 140-150 km

top speed 160 km but not advisable to travel long on this speed

cos it will consume alot of fuel

was told that a T-max got engine burnt out during previous trip

and had to be towed back to Singapore

the extra big windscreen adds in extra protection against the strong wind at 140km/h

the extra loud horns is necessary to warn other road users

fuel tank capacity allows you to travel at least 200km before refilll

but compared to most class 2 bikes it is still relatively small

able to ride very comfortably even in heavy rain

as scooter got more cover against the elements

compared to other bikes

one setback is the small wheels

more prone to fish-tailing when hard braking during high speed

has to be careful when need to brake during high speed

advisable to use left brake (front and rear) more

Bro Coyote66 u should try changing tyre. Rly a world of difference. Stock compound too hard alr. No feel at all. Ride will be more comfy also.

May change tyre when reach 15k km or 20k km

Abit waste to change when stock tyres still full of thread

I suppose you don't have the ABS version...there is no CBS in the ABS version.

Daelim S3 125fi (black): August 2011 -> July 2012 (14.090km)

SYM Maxsym 400i (black): July 2012 -> June 2013 (21.547km)

SYM Maxsym 400i ABS (black): June 2013->May 2014 (18.000km)

SYM Maxsym 600i ABS (black matte): May 2014->

we don't have the ABS version over here. lousy agent. haha. now looking forward to the 600!

higher cc with same fuel capacity as 400cc

definitely lose out on the distance travelled per petrol fuel up.

i think 200km should be okay la. but then, i think if its gearing is done properly, its fuel consumption could be even lesser if say travelling at 140-150 because there is less strain on the engine.

This is where I dont understand and very sad about scooters in general. Many bikes I see can actually have their tank being increased, I wonder why scooter cannot have a bigger tank size. I have seen many x9 tank and I am sure Sym also is similar. Personally I think both scooters can have a slighltly bigger tanks say 18-20 litres without compromising their stabiliies and performance

hi all scooter shi fus,

i just bought a sym gts 200 a couple of weeks ago. as i am working, i only viewed the bike at night / xfer at bike shop in evening. so upon washing the bike yesterday, i realized the exhaust pipe has some portions which are rusted.

can anyone advise me how to remove the rust or should i change a new exhaust pipe (please recommend bike shop to change + price please)?

there is a Sym GTS 200 thread around

but no problem if u post here

no need to change if the rust did not result in a hole

cos will not affect the efficiency of bike

unless there is a hole

but if u still want to change no one can stop u

the thread there is pretty much not moving. i posted there as well but no response. so i figured i would have better luck here. thanks for your time!

so basically it remains as purely an aesthetic problem only until the rusting results in a hole? if that's the case, then it would be better to remove the rust before that happens right? any DIY methods or is AC Motor able to help remove the rust for a fee? sorry for the trouble and thanks for helping!

u can remove it on ur own with some sandpaper, but once its removed, the metal is exposed again, and will rust again. the only way is to paint it after ur sand. there are high-temperature spray paints available in a several colors.

i see. i dont think the option of repainting is available to me as i do not know how to dismantle it to repaint. after removing the rust via sandpaper, would wrapping the exhaust with carbon fibre sheets prevent rusting? or is repainting the only way to do so?

on a side note, do you know any shops who provide this service?

thank you so much for the replies. really appreciate it.

Nice to note there's a 600 coming. I saw a MaxSym at my cp the other day. Noted that, it encourages rider to place feet forward cruiser style. Don't really have space to plant the feet flatly horizontally to the ground. Whats the guess now for OTR price ?
