What I did.

Fitted the Dynojet jetting kit I bought from the website for the carb of the DRZ on my own.. following the instructions.

The Result

Bike was performing well, now with awesome midrange acceleration. Halfway through the second session on the track... the exhaust started popping like crazy on downshifts and the engine would stall whilst I am trying to accelerate out of the corners and then suddenly run like normal again.

The Cause and Remedy

Went back to the pits.. the engine will quit whenever I try to accelerate out of idle though it will start and idle properly. Tore the CV carb apart and found the main jet needle was stuck in the full up position. The needle had jumped out of the needle holder and caused the diagphram to be stuck in the full up position (max rpm).

Lesson Learnt

Fitted back the needle and this time made sure the holder was seated fully in the diagphram assembly. So those of you who like to dismantle your bike CV carb to pieces for cleaning or reset the needle position, make sure you fully seat the needle holder in the housing or else your bike will suffer the same symptoms as mine did.

So share... have you done a DIY before, screwed and corrected it yourself. Am sure you learnt a valuable self taught lesson. We all can learn too.

Heaps. I can't remember all, but among them was putting on the brackets of my after-market saddlebags before I put the docking kit for my Harley. When my docking kit arrived, Harley dealership had to do their own DIY so that they can put my saddlebags onto the mounting kit. Got scolded by the Parts and Accessories guy after that 'cos the technicians didn't know how to do the DIY for the brackets on the docking kit.

The other one I think, was using after-market batteries for my Dragstar Classic and my Shadow Aero. Both batteries were a bit too tall for the bikes, so in the end I didn't out the battery cover back. My Dragstar Classic, I left it as it is when I pushed traded my bike in, my Shadow Aero, I had my previous battery recharged and re-using it for now.

Edited to add: I once tried to install an alarm into my mum's Honda Accord, only to short out the circuit

Too many to list. But the most expensive DIY screw-up:

Fried the ECU of my CBR929. There was an electrial problem. Ground wire was broken somewhere in the harness. Lifted the tank up (with key in "ON" position), and edge of the tank touched the frame (which effectively completed the circuit). Saw sparks and the bike could not start after that.

Damage: $1k plus.

Past: KDX200, LC4 400, LC4 620, GSXR750WR

Present: CBR900RRY, Gas Gas EC250, XR250L, XR250RV, XR400 (motard-ed), NX650 Dominator
