Mine was I t boned a small lorry. Partly my fault due to speed. Partly he make illegal u turn.

 

Lesson learned: when there's chance of cross traffic. Slow the shi+ down.

Time: around 8am

 

Woke up and going to work, didn't realise that the concrete ground was damp due to rain in the early morning. Skidded when I was throttling to go up the slope.

 

Causes: Damp ground, botak rear tire.

 

Solution: Changed the bloody tire to a better one and take caution on wet concrete grounds...

Well, ironically I skidded in KK hospital's carpark.

 

Was raining cats n dogs and carpark floor was akin to an ice-skating ring. When riding over a hump in the carpark, didnt control my speed and skidded.

 

Morale of the story: Rainy day carpark floor != dry floor. Regulate speed.

Well, the thing is such incidents will always happen. The best countermeasure to protect yourself on the spot is to get quality protective gears.

 

- Full face helmet (The Chin bar provided by the full face helmet is a life saver indeed since a broken jaw is really a messy job)

 

- Armoured gloves (Naturally, humans will use their hands to break their fall in any event. Hence, gloves are important as they serves as protection for the first point of contact)

 

- Armoured Jacket with Elbow, Shoulder, Arm, Back, Front and Side protectors (Protects your upper body which contains most of your vital organs. Even though the rib cage is meant to protect your most vital organs, it is hellish to suffer from broken rib cage.)

 

- Riding Jeans with Shin and Knee guards. (Jeans is not sufficient, the abrasion resistant afforded by denim is close to negligible and that it might even aggravate the situation)

 

- Riding boots/shoes with Toe, Ankle and possibly lower shin protection ( Crushed ankle, anyone?)

 

Optional

- Neck brace (Prevents over extension of your neck in the moment of impact)

- Air bag jacket (Expensive but essentially alleviates the impact greatly)

- Hip protection (Well, you do wanna walk, don't you? The same applies for back protectors)

 

In any event, check for CE approved armours. These are regulation approved armours which are tested and proven to work under most conditions, hence it'll be good to look out for them.

 

Expensive stuffs, you might say? Well, if you can afford a bike, you definitely can afford these stuffs.

 

Hot, you quipped? A little convenience can lead to a lifetime of regrets.

 

Bulky and tedious, you ponder about? If you can think of negative stuffs, do think of the positive stuffs, the protection afforded by these protective gears.

 

Well, in the end, it is your life and nobody can tell you what to do but remember that your decision will affect those around you too, people whom you love and care for.

 

It is all about how much you value your life for others, not for yourself. Be responsible, passion does not equates to putting yourself at risk necessarily.

 

After all, you only live once (YOLO).

1) Skidded and fell in heavy rain while making a turn. Went over a manhole cover which I should really have avoided. Rear tyre was worn out.

 

2) Skidded and fell in a car park. Floors were slippery (post-rain) and I squeezed the brakes a little too hard at the bottom of a slope. Should have gone down the slope more slowly so as to reduce the need for sudden braking. Both tyres were worn out.

 

3) Skidded a few other times (but didn't fall) on wet roads, usually due to overuse of the rear brake and worn out tyres. Rescued myself by braking intermittently.

 

Be careful in the rain, change your tyres and go easy on the rear brake.

I usually fall because I follow too closely behind and they brake suddenly. or I didn't foresee them braking then I crash. twice already. So usually it's a reminder to keep my distance and don't chiong. Relax and get to your destination safely. It's more of a mentality for me.

skid in rain because rear brake too hard. ease off rear brake and turn handle bar slightly in the same direction as the skidding rear wheel. luckily managed to regain balance.

 

sharp left turn into a upslope. rear wheel lost traction when i increased throttle while in the turn. stomped on the ground with my left foot to regain balance.

 

low speed turn in a car park. wet concrete rear wheel slid. somehow i panic increased throttle and leaned to opposite side avoiding falling down.

 

super low speed turn in car park. front wheel caught a crack and fell over.

1) skidded while in the MSCP. it was raining heavily, so entered the cp.. made a right turn to find a lot and bam! was lucky enough there was a couple(lives in the same block as me) who helped me to get up and my bike up on side stand(was a few inches from hitting a parked vehicle). Escaped with no injuries...found out that while i was making a right turn, there was a drainage cover(obviously wet)..chances are my tyres were on it and i skidded. Counter measure: eversince that day, each time i enter a cp regardless its sheltered or open ones..i ride slow, look out and avoid for those drainage covers and both foot on the ground while riding slow hehe.

 

2)raining situation again zzz, it started to drizzle and soon started pouring..so decided to take cover at a bustop..was coming to stop when i skidded..lucky enough i was able to 'tahan' my bike weight(kupkia) but my side mirror broke and my body starts to ache from 'tahan' the bike..then i realised the bustop area had alot of sand and small pebbles. and my rear tyre also botak liao(was a p plate back then...never knew all that!) Counter measure: Always look out and avoid roads with sand and those small pebbles. They suck alot esp when its raining..and always check on your bikes' tyre life..change it asap when botak liao..

MSCP floor is normally epoxy, good grip if the tyre is good and super slippery if tyre botak. Just what i think

MSCP carparks are renowned for being slippery during rainy days. Just rode extremely carefully.
