Where the heck did you find information on this stuffs?

Include me in ^^

All: I suggest we plan a date, meet up at a strategic McDonald, I bring my laptop & 200GB external hard disk. Each of us bring the top 5 most favourite anime DVDs, or otherwise 10GB of downloaded files. Dump everything into my hard disk centrally. Then after that , use your individual portable hard disks to copy out those you like; after previewing them on the laptop.

And we can do all these and have a McDonald dinner at same time - kill 2 birds with one stone.

Everyone like the plan?----------------------------------------------------------------------------

So far these people has indicated interest -

1) hondaman (???)

2) tt6389 (Woodlands)

3) panther (Toa Payoh)

4) genyue (???)

5) Ones_co (???)

I wonder if 16th Sep, 5pm is OK with everyone? Is it too far off? Will ppl here forgot or lost interest? And which McDonald is central to everyone? I need to know where you all staying roughly. We need a McDonald where we can sit quietly & nearby got power sockets.

I intend to post this invite list into "Beyond the screen". And the heading shall be called -"Jap Anime Swapping Gathering" Any objections here?

Chiaki might be interested too Tim, I think you should ask her.

Genyue: I did not learn Japanese, I kept saying I wanted to, but I fail in motivation. I can read simple Romanji, but cannot form sentences. The sentence you put up, I had a rough time trying to translate it through friends and translator machines. Biggest problem is with your "ma" character. However if I gather correctly, you are saying that I reached here first and something about approving you to do something?

In conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Singapore and Japan, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), in collaboration with The Association of Japanese Animations (AJA), is pleased to present “JAPAN ANIME NOW in Singapore”. This exhibition, in dedication to the Japanese animation from the 1950s till now, brings together 48 leading Japanese animators. Creators of Doraemon, Konan, Pokemon, Gundam, Astroboy, Kureyon Shinchan, and The Cat Returns, are some of the many on the list. Besides the film presentations of original animation made for TV broadcast, this visual extravaganza, which features originals and replicas of preparatory sketches, ‘the motion pictures’, ‘layout’, ‘background/landscape’, ‘character design catalogues’, ‘scripts’ and ‘cells’, reveals the production process and technology behind these familiar and beloved cartoon characters from Japan. In addition, there will be an AJA documentary about the development of Manga into Anime and exclusive, limited screenings of animated programmes for the public.

Chiaki must be the ultimate anime fanatic from the look of this...must be having tetrabytes of anime files in her hard disk. You like to swap files too?

すまん! 先からここにきたから..

Sorry! I just reached this thread..

許してくれないのかい?

Forgive me, will ya?

suman (is the same as "sumanai", or what you usually heard "sumimasen")

It's a Tokyo way of saying it in a informal manner.

i do not have any anime files in my hard disk, i do not download anime... i buy some DVDs, and friends lend me others. in fact, i don't like be near a computer outside of my working hours.

Yes after my friend told me the first two characters were "suma" I should have realized that right away. I know about the informal parts, I think my friend was trying to make it into formal Japanese. We always prefer informal in speech haha. I need to take up a Japanese course.

However the second part means to forgive? Normally means something like approval, from what I gather. Thanks for the translation though.

currently watching 'The Third' anime, very nice.

full title: The Third: Aoi Hitomi no Shoujo

story:

In the distant future, because of an interplanetery war that has continued on for centuries, the civilizations were ruined. Human beings have lost everything, and only 1/5th of the population survived. Pseudo-human, “The Third”, is said to have appeared just after the war. They have red pupils called “Space Eyes”. Using them, they can control computer systems and so on, and rule the world by their superior power.

In this world, there is a girl, Honoka; She is a jack-of-all-trades, and she accepts any order except murder. One day, she happens to find a young Ikus in the desert. When she accepts the order from him, her great adventure begins.

We have 6 people here. I got a feeling some of the interested people may not have a portable external hard disk. Either a lap top or portable harddisk is necessary for file swappings. They may have lots of Anime dvds but no external hard disk or lap tops.

Also 5pm is too early for some. Maybe 7pm will be perfect.

Also the date of 16th Sep clashes with the bigbike fest. Then 23Sep, Sat , is only choice.

And which McDonald is central to everyone? I need to know where you all staying roughly. We need a McDonald where we can sit quietly & nearby got power sockets.

Remember the objectives of Gathering is saving time from downloading or buying from Jb (risk of getting caught)

yurusu can mean approve and forgive, actually, there's a few more meaning for it.

Self-taught.. thought of taking JLPT before, but I always seem to forget whenever the date for registration is reaching.

One bad thing is, I can listen and speak, but can't recognise much kanji characters.

I am really impressed with your generosity.

It will be great if we can all get to know each others - being bikers & anime fans etc That's a lot of common interest to chat about!!!

Maybe the other purpose of the gathering can also be previewing on the laptop what other good animes recommended by others. Coz a few times I bought from jb anime dvds which is boring inspite of highly recommended by the shop. I am pretty sure recommendations by other fanatics will be 90% great stuff.

I am thinking of bringing my portable external DVD writer, but then again, there will be a heap of peripherals & accessories lying on the McDonald eating table. What will people think? hehehe...

The other option I am trying to do is asking a SBF friend who has his own Gaming Forum Server (similar to SBF), can loan about 20Gigabyte of server space for a few days - for people who dun own a external hard disk to share anime files. This means our group of people can upload & download the anime files thru the gaming forum server. Not sure whether this idea is actually practical or not.

Genyue: I cannot read Hiragana and Katakana, but Kanji is just fan ti Chinese and so their meanings have not really changed. I need to go learn Japanese, both speaking and writing.

Lawrence lives in Bedok, Tim. And no point about the server. There are a hell of a lot of trackers online and BT is much better, and can be faster if the anime is popular. Not to mention more up-to-date, better quality of subtitles, easier tracking, and a few thousand anime forums online for you to find out about anime from. There are even direct downloads (very rare). Recently episodes of many anime series have been put onto Youtube.

The best thing about BT as well is that if you get disconnected, you just resume immediately when you reconnect, and not have to start the download all over again, since the torrent is read in packets of separate data, meaning you can get from several people at the same time even if they do not have the complete file. So long as they have the parts that you do not, you can leech from them.

Edited update

Why not go see the bike festival immediately after the anime convention. But the IMF road closure effect the accessibility to anime convention & bike festival? Very confused?

Hello there.

Saw this thread intro by Tim as it also caught my fancy...

First thing first... About the IMF, it is not the whole of SUNTEC that is close off to public but just only the Convention Hall, with the rest of the Tower i.e. Carrefour is still open to public. Only difference is that public vehicle movement is closed or at best restricted to enter the area...

I have a fair share of amount of animation which mostly is downloaded courtesy of Bit torrent...

How about let's list out what animation we have in our "safe"...

Currently downloading / yet completed:

. Akagi 1 - 17

. Coyote Ragtime Show 1 - 3

. DemonBane 1 - 5

. Innocent Venus 1

. Karas 1 - 3

. Lemon Angel 1 - 6

. Night Head Genesis 1 - 5

. Tactical Roar 1 - 3

. Tsubasa Chronicles 2nd Season 1 - 14 (27 - 40)

. XxX Holic 1 - 20

. Gundam Victory 58% completed

. Gundam X 25% completed

. Turn-A Gundam 105 completed

Complete Animes

. Gundam Seed & Gundam Seed OVA - The Empty Battlefield

. Gundam Seed Destiny & Final Plus

. Rozen Maiden

. Ghost in The Shell 2 - Innocence

. Full Metal Panic and Full Metal Panic - The Second Raid & it's OVA - Tessa

. Full Metal Panic - Fumoffu

. eX-Driver

. Video Girl

. Midori no Hibi

. Vandread & Vandread 2

. Initial D Season 4

. Saikano OVA & Manga & Movie

. Final Fantasy VII - Last Order

And some others don't know where is it...

Did I missed anyone?

Anyone from the West? Hard to decide where is a central place to all.

I think the amount of anime files we have as a group is too mind boggling. Ones_co (Lawrence) mentioned he alone got 150GB of anime files. I think its impossible to dump everything into my external hard disk for swapping.

I suggest that each of us bring your highly recommended personal favourites of about 30GB plus minus in either dvds or in portable hard disk. We'll preview them on my laptop. Once previewing is done, the next thing is to transfer to my external hard disk followed by transferring to the rest of other people hard disks.

.................................

I know of a place in Ngee Ann Poly, where there is a open air but sheltered place full of bench tables & chairs & free wireless broadband & power sockets every where. Lots of students, some like myself was a part time student had used the place for project discussions.

Its a kind of place where nobody will stare if you fill the tables with portable hard disks, laptops, cables & stuff. In fact , some of the Ngee Ann students may want to join the swapping also....lol. Coffee coin machines & tidbits machine are also nearby.

Best time to go there is on saturday afternoons though...

Lawrence: If you refer to YourMom's releases, they suck. Far worse. Which is why many SR hardcore fans stay off their releases and would rather wait for the DVDs.

I am not bringing any, except maybe one or two episodes from requested anime since I only have a 1GB thumbdrive. All of my anime is inside my PC. Nearly 130 GB.

My goodness...got ratings for each item some more...:thumb:

I just completed my Ngee Ann Poly part time last year. Go inside no stopped by Guard, no need to register whatever.

Just drive your bike in at the main entrance. They have 2 entrance. Go in the big one where there is a security post. Immediately turn into right side side lane when past the main gate. The first buidling on the right you encounter when passing the main gate is the place to meet. Once you turn right, the first carpark try to finding parking.

I'll bring you my spare external hard disk 1 or 2 nites before the gathering.
