here my story

once upon a time ....

i bought a radiator cap sometime back for my s4 .... dun know where ... forgot already .... so i thought all radiator cap same2 ar ....

did not notice it for a long time till last friday when a mech says my radiator cap is for nsr 150sp ..... not suitable for s4 as the pressure is not there ... so coolant will keep on throwing out b4 hitting the right temp .....

u hav to check the number on the cap..

the number stated there is to tell u the pressure it can withstand..

normally is 1.0 or 1.1 or 0.9..

ok thkx guys.. i got a new one rated at 1.1bar..

the problem on my bike now is when the bike hits more than half.. the coolant reservoir will overflow causing the coolant to vent out from the pipe neat the right foot rest..

the reservoir overflows i tink is due to the release of pressure in the radiator by the cap.. i did not overfill the reservoir.. so i suspect the cap is relieving pressure at a low temp den it shd be..

wat do u guys tink?

Blowing radiator caps and overflowing of coolant tanks is a sign that all may not be well in yr cooling system. Don't just change the cap.

Do you suffer overheating?

If so the symptoms you described together with overheating will suggest that your themostat may be stuck or partially stuck in the closed position or something is not well will yr cooling system.

agree.

try remove thermonstat & see if it still running hot, could be other causes like too old & worn radiator.

carefully inspect the thermostat u removed for sign of corrosion or any form of deterioration around to valve contacting rim circle. it should be reasonably clean & smooth around the area else replace a new one if u found any form of abnormality.

good luck.
