As with all chain cleaning/lubing thread, ask 5 people and you'll get 10 opinions.

i guess the general consensus is to clean our chain with kerosene.

But the WD40 works just as well for cleaning and wont damage your chain provided you lube it with a proper lube after cleaning. However, there are cases whereby riders ride in very dusty/sandy terrain that a regular chain lube will do more harm than good by attracting all the dirt/grime and sand particles onto the chain.

Refer to the FAQ by RK chain manufacturer, http://www.rkexcelamerica.com/faq.html#oring under 'How should I maintain my O-ring chain?'

they do recommend using WD40.

Wanted to clean my chain "cosmetically".

Equiptment used = Kerosene, an old sports towel, a bike jack and my good old dupont chain saver. 7 minutes job and about 1/20 of the bottle.

have you tried Chain oiler from Ezzyoiler?

cheap and good solutions.. using Engine oil to "auto " Lub your chain.

never use diesel as it will damage the O rings..

Less than 5% of us have the capabilities to do that.

And i am sure if you do that. you run your chain out faster by drying out the grease in the Orings.

If you align your rear wheel wrongly, you risk a warped rotor, wheel bearings.

Yup unless have i live in a private estate with my own porch, its just too inconvenient to do that. Too much hassle. Its better to clean frequently. If its to the extent of needing to be taken off and degreased, i'd rather change out for a new one while im at it.

A ride a day, keeps the doctor away!

i had some bad experiences with "oilers" , ie the straw/dripping point going out of alignment at high speeds, on a >1000cc bike continously >3-4 hours of travelling, sometimes up to 6-8 hours
