Hi all,

I went to Auntie shop and got a customized tank pad protector sometime back last year for $30.00 for my cb400. This refers to the area where your zip area might scratch the fuel tank.

This year, I noticed this white color specks forming on the tank pad. I cannot clean it off because its actually inside the plastic layer of the tank pad protector and not the surface of the tank pad protector (exterior).

Do you see all the white color dots in the pictures ? Those are not dust and cannot be clean or wipe away. Its beneath the thin plastic layer.

I emailed Auntie Shop but they're clueless and they say cannot resolve it. They also said they stopped doing such stuff.

Anyone knows how to remove it and what is it?

My friend and I suspect that the applied "soap water" or "glue" evaporated when the fuel tank heat up, condensed at the outermost plastic layer and got trapped inside. Last time I remember, the malaysian guy who paste it told me they don't use glue for their decal or tank pad protector so that it can be removed or adjusted when necessary. They use the handheld water spray for spraying water droplets to plant to spray the "soap water" on the surface. They don't tell me what it is, but just say "soap water". Whatever it is, any idea anyone? I see other people who buy off the shelf tank pad protector dont have such problems.

Surely, it cannot be petrol or rain water right? Dont look like it.

Reason why this year happen and not last year? Ride longer distances on faster speed, bike heat up more.

Thanks for reading.

The tank protector that I bought off the shelf is worst lol. The plastic layer peeled off. Now left with the design sticker itself only lol.

Hey there, thanks for sharing your experience. Make me feel better than I am not the only one.

Like that means, its not water proof already ?

Buying off the shelf also bad for me, thats why I went to pay extra 1 yr plus ago with customized thinking I wont have problems... Off the shelf, I bought a carbon fibre colored fuel tank cap protector from the old lady shop beside Ah boy shop 2 years back, before they and the neighbouring shop closed down and moved to eunos/ubi. If anyone go there frequent, you can tell how "fierce" the auntie was. Anyway, I wanted to test if the size fits since she said its for cb400. She very fierce, and started raise her voice then confirm it ll fit its for cb400. Once leave her glass cabinet considered sold. When I reached home and paste it on, I realized it is smaller than my fuel tank cap, cannot cover properly at all. Even the holes for allen key not even made properly. As I stay far away, I didn't go back immediately for such a small item. On my next trip, the 2 shops beside Ah boy shop closed and move away. Up to now, still on my fuel tank cap, I will upload pics of it. This one sometimes got clear, water vapor trapped beneath it when heavy rain, but it will disappear and dry up without any white spots. Thats why Im quite sure, that the tank pad protector is not water vapor.

My fuel cap protector also peeled off lol. Fuel cap protector was bought from Regina, tank protector was bought from Aunty Shop :D

Cheap things won't last? But where to find quality stuff? I don't mind paying more.

I also dont mind paying more for quality stuff. But end up I paying more, also get lousy stuff become a double whammer ( double loser ). Heres the pic of the fuel tank cap protector which I bought from the shop beside Ah boy shop before it shift/closed down. Can see that its not big enough to cover the metal. Also, two of the lobang for the allen key also never cut out.

Nope, the customized tank protector in red is $30. I cant remember the gas cap sticker is how much from a different shop, but all I know is when I bought it, not the correct size. thats why i fed up with generic stickers. I bought customized ones thinking that pay extra got better things. Skali end up with those white dots.
