Hi all,

need some advice over here. i had been working overseas for years, and had been riding for a while over here. the traffic is easier to handle compared to crowded Singapore. Back in Singapore i would never think of riding because of bad experience with riders who don't stick to their lane and go in between cars (seriously guys! that is so dangerous, thought bikes are supposed to take a full car space???).

i would be moving back to singapore soon, thanks to the crazy car price, i guess having a bike back home make sense now.

questions.

1. i heard conversion of license is only entitled to a 2B class, is that true? i read it from traffic police site, if you can prove ownership of a larger bike, they might consider upgrading your class. Any one tried converting before? i have a Singapore driving license too.

2. i ride a 1996 Yamaha Vmax 1200 here, love this bike, chances are i won't be able to bring it back to Singapore with me. I had been trying to get a second bike over here, but after riding the vmax, most of the bike i tried seem underpowered. I am kinda tall so i prefer the Vmax position (not as 'chill' as crusier, not as 'low-bending' as supersports). Any good bike recommendation?

Hopefully i get a class 2A at least...i would be really uncomfortable with a 2B bike (tried Duke 200 though, fun bike!)

Cheers!

Yes people have converted successfully to CL 2 directly, especially expats from US, Europe, Australia etc, but make sure you bring with you proof of ownership like insurance on the bike and the equivalent of log card that proves ownership.

thank you! hope i do get a class two. question about riding in singapore, going in between lanes, is that legal? would i look stupid if i ride my bike like a car and get stuck in traffic like everyone else??

It is not ill-legal to ride in b/w cars, but use your judgement. If traffic is smoothly flowing, there is no need to ride b/w cars, on the other hand is there is jam on an expressway and there is enough gap b/w stationary cars, then by all means, I would go b/w them, same thing in case of stationary cars at a traffic junction. But when vehicles are already moving at a fast pace, I would rather stay in my lane.
